Deck Building reviews in Polk City

  • This post is to alert anyone who is looking to have any work done to their house now or in the future. Do your research on the companies(s) you are looking at to do any renovations to your property, like for example, build a deck. I will not name any names, just the name of the disgraceful company we tried to work with. Kristi and I went through this a couple years ago that many of you are aware of. The company was T. Peters LLC and was suggested to us by a co-worker. I had the owner of T. Peters LLC come out and provide a quote for the removal of our old deck and building a new deck for us. He provided a good price and I thought that since he was referred to me by my co-worker, who said that he has done a lot of work for her, including decks, he would be a great choice. Now the nightmare begins. He came to our house on 05/01/2016 and provided a basic quote on 05/05. I requested a more detailed quote a couple days later. I followed up with him multiple times and didn’t receive the more detailed invoice until 05/30. Should have been a red flag, but I figured he was busy. My bad. Before he got started, I request that he leave all the deck boards from our old deck at the house as my neighbor wanted them. He responded to me that he already has a place for half of the deck boards. Ok so this is my first time going through a construction project like this. I thought it was common practice. Once again, my bad. Let’s fast forward to the day he starts the tear down of the current deck. The date is 07/08/2016. I come home and find the pile of deck boards in my yard all chopped up. He says that the screws were not coming out and time is money so he decided to use a chainsaw instead. So the boards that he had a place for, he no longer wanted because they were too chopped up. My neighbor couldn’t even use them. Let’s move forward to mid-August. He sends me a text on the morning of 08/11/2016, not about my deck, but about who my co-worker is sleeping with. He proceeds to ask if she is sleeping with someone from work. Professional right? On 08/23/2016 my parents come over to look at the progress. My dad being a carpenter looked at our deck in the works. He is appalled at the horrible craftsmanship. There were gaps between where the boards meet, nothing is square, the southeast side of the deck was bowed out at least half a foot and the upright were not plum. He called and yelled at me and berated me. My family could hear him screaming at me while I was on the other side of the kitchen. He wanted to meet to look over everything over and show me that nothing was wrong. I told him to be at our house at 6:00 AM and that my father would also be there to speak with him as well. He showed up at 6:00 as scheduled and my dad and I were on my deck and he would not come up to see what we were speaking about. We told him that he said that the deck would take 2-3 weeks to complete. It was 2.5 months later and we were nowhere near being finished. I emailed and text him on 08/24/2016 and ended our business relationship. We requested copies of receipts that he has from the half down we provided to him. We received no response from him. We spoke with a lawyer and sent him letters through email and mail. No response. We ended up filing a small claim law suit against T. Peters LLC, which was not easy to have him served since he did not provide a physical address. With the help of our lawyer, we were able to get his address and have him served through the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department. There was no response to the lawsuit. We ended up winning the lawsuit; however we are still awaiting payment from the judgement, which can be difficult to receive. Our lawyer has been very helpful and has suggested a few different options. As a lot of you know, we finished our deck in the Spring of 2017 with the help of our very good friend. We had to tear down T. Peters LLC deck and rebuild it from the beginning. All in all, if you need anything done to your house inside or out, do your research on the company, and do not hire T. Peters LLC to work on anything near or on your property. I am afraid that if we would have continued, we would have failed our inspection and would have or possibly still going through what could have been a much larger headache.

  • Professionalism:  Very prompt with returning calls and providing quotes. Excellent job site management.
Cost:  Not the cheapest and not the most expensive, right in the middle.
Quality:  Excellent. We could not be happier with the finished product.  Its EXACTLY what we asked for, no complaints.
No Sub contractors:  Team you talk to is the same Team you will have onsite.  This makes communication of project from beginning to end very fluent and effective.
Summary: Addition Doctors built our new deck covered by a shingled roof.  Their prompt response to my request for a bid and detailed follow-ups ensured we both knew exactly what was expected.  Job started and ended on schedule with no changes to the original plan required. We will definitely be calling Addition Doctors for our future projects........Great Team to do business with.....
