While, their prices for full-time care are a little higher than other local centers, they are extremely flexible part-time care and have excellent prices for part-time care. Iowa City is a college town and the center hires a lot of students so there is a bit of turn-over in part-time staff, they however, make these transitions easy for the children (full-time staff remain rather consistent). They are open to my requests on how I would like my child cared for. The staff is friendly and LOVE caring for the children. They are very loving in their play and teaching of the children. The children are happy and having fun, but remain calm. The teacher to child ratio is great. They could stand to improve on their organization of toys and the hint of bleach can be smelled, but at least we know they are cleaning, but that is my only complaint.

    Rockwell Child Development Center
The RC childcare center providers are very professional and attentive to my child's needs. They strictly adhere to a 1:4 ratio of provider to kids and have a set schedule for meals, snacks, naps and play time. Very responsive to parents concerns and needs as well. We have been very satisfied with our son's care from infant room to toddler room. He absolutely loves it there!

    Apple Kids
Apple Kids is wonderful! The adults truly care for the children and know all of the children by name - even the ones not in their class. They are always smiling and give and quot;negativeand quot; feedback about the children (i.e. if the child behaved badly that day) in a positive coaching manner. My younger child is not yet potty trained and the teachers have been supportive but not pushy, offering advice and suggestions that are very helpful. The only criticism that my husband and I have is that the owner of the day care, Kendran, posts passive-aggressive notes on the doors for everyone to see, that don't apply to everyone. For example, we pay our tuition every Monday via bank draft, so we have never missed. Yet there are constantly notes on the doors about her not being able to conduct business properly due to not receiving tuition in a timely manner, etc. We would prefer that she bring up the issues privately with the parents in question, not post notes to be seen by all.

My 4 year old daughter has gone to Love A Lot since she was 3 months old, and my older daughter went there for 5 years before starting grade school. It is a wonderful center with really excellent staff. I can't say enough good things about the instructors. Both my kids loved going there. I'd give the place an A except I've never been crazy about the meals they serve, but I'm sort of a food snob. They are fine with bringing in home-made meals, or accommodating special dietary needs. The price is fairly expensive, but I think it's fairly comparable to similar daycare facilities.

    Rockwell Child Development Center
The guys from Rockwell Child Development Center are fantastic with the children especially the younger ones. They take their ratios very seriously. They don't ever have more than demanding ratio. They are just very good.

Just a glorified after-school recess program. No enrichment - just college kids standing around chatting while kids played in backyard with equipment in need of repair or replacement. Seen the "watchers" yell at kids or fail to intervene when someone is crying. There doesn't appear to be a formal way of handling payments - just a blue transparent box or hand it to a "watcher"; no electronic payment options and receipts are handwritten. Just seems chaotic and lesser quality.

    Apple Kids
My husband and I were very disappointed with Apple Kids. In an attempt to find Childcare for our daughter, we contacted Apple Kids. After several email and phone attempts we finally got a response. A one line reply stating "Sure, we have room. It'll be $XXX/week. If you want to set up a visit please stop by the office." The people we spoke to on the phone were very unfriendly and not helpful. We were very frustrated and ended up looking for alternative care.

As a former employee, I want to let parents know that this company does not treat their employees fairly.  They start out their employees making less than a fast food restaurant.  Because of this, they have extremely high turn over.  Most of the people they hire do not have any formal training on early childhood.  If you go to this company, please, ask some hard questions about their employees and how long they've been with the company.  Ask them who in each classroom has training for CPR and first aid.  This isn't what I would want for my kids.
