The walls haven't moved a fraction since then. I have a colleague who is picky and was also happy with the work they did. There was a lot involved in the job, a fair amount of time and I thought the price was fair. They had specialized equipment on the job and the workmen seemed to be very knowledgeable about what they were doing with the whole system. They really seemed to know what the were doing, what made it work and had the physical strength to do the work and made it work. You couldn't just turn any kind of labor loose on this work. We also called them for gutter replacements. They do a lot of things and seem to be a real competent shop.

Iowa Flatworks replied to my request very quickly. They did not bid work in my area, but offered to recommend someone closer to my project.

I called about having them come in and give me an estimate for the job. What he gave me was a ballpark figure of $2000, but that he needed to send over a worker to pull out the toilet so that they could get a good idea of all that would need to be done. Because of a roofing project they were trying to finish, it would be sometime the following week before they could start the job. He brought in an employee who did not speak english. I left the worker in the bathroom while he was pulling up the toilet. When it seemed that the worker was taking quite some time to figure out what needed to be done, I checked on him only to find that not only had he taken out the toilet, but he had dismantled my sink and had cut up my vinyl flooring. He had been told to start working on the job that I was only requesting an estimate on. By this point, I couldn't stop the work - things had progressed too far. I had the employee put the contractor on the phone and was asking why things got started, especially since they would not be able to work on it until the following week. He explained that since it was going to rain over the weekend, they could start working on it right away. I hadn't even had time to clear things out of the room to prepare for things to be fixed. The contractor actually had the nerve to chastise me for not having the room ready for the repair. When he came back to the house, he informed me that the best course of action was to lay ceramic tile down as part of the process of leveling the floor. He planned to lay the floor the next day and wanted to know what color I wanted. I hadn't even thought about tile for the floor. I was looking to have the floor leveled and then choose a vinyl floor pattern at that time. The case made for using tile was acceptable to me. What I didn't like was his asking me what color I wanted. I was given no time to shop around. I made him go to Menards and bring me back a book with what tile they had in stock since many of their tiles had to be special ordered and he was planning on laying the tile the next day (I couldn't wait for a special order. I needed my 1/2 bath/laundry room to be functional again ASAP). He brought samples back and then he tried to talk me out of the choice I made because it was more expensive than some of the other choices. I stuck with my selection and am happy with it. I also did not have the chance to pick out our new toilet in person and may have made a different selection if I had seen them in person rather than having to make a quick decision by looking online. The next morning he finally brought me the total cost page for the project and it was $700 higher than the ballpark figure I was originally quoted. Now in their defense -- they solved my flooring/toilet issue and did a beautiful job with only a couple of very minor issues discovered that no one would notice unless they were scrutinizing it as close as I was. My bathroom looks very nice and the employee who did most of the work was there for very long days over the weekend and Monday until the job was finished. They took care to make sure it looked right before leaving. Communication was by far the biggest complaint I had. The contractor also had a bad habit of talking down to me as if I was stupid. As he finished up, he kept telling me over and over to be sure that I keep my bathroom clean as if he were chastizing a teenager who hadn't cleaned his room. I found it very insulting. I also have cats in the house and had to repeatedly remind them to close the door leading from the house to the outside. On one day, my husband came downstairs to find that the employee had gone to lunch and left the outside door wide open. Fortunately none of the cats decided to wander outside. My recommendation is that if you want to use them, they do a nice job. Just make sure that you keep full control of the communication and time schedule of the project. The lack of professionalism in their treatment of me as the customer will be the main reason for not using their services in the future.

They sent an inexperienced crew. Nice guys, but clueless. No significant followup. Areas they worked on sunk again within 2 weeks.

The two street sidewalk squars are uneven and tripping hazared. The holes that were drilled and later filled with a very very light grayconcrete(looks terrible) and cracking. I have called tomlinson office and they have not responded.BEWARE--BIG DOES NOT MEAN BETTER. Never again. .
