Transmission Service reviews in Des Moines

    Cotofo's Auto Service
I tried just now to contact them concerning a very sensitive and personal matter and they were beyond rude, condescending, and unprofessional. I contacted the email address they have listed on their website and this was the reply I got back: "Give your adreess so i can send. A box of condomes, so you stop have mote kid, get a job **** or at leade charge for ***, don give your ***** for free ." These people do not know me or anything about me. I have never encountered this type of treatment before in my entire life. I wouldn't take anything of mine to them nor recommend taking anything to them because of their heartless and disrespectful treatment. I am in total shock and appalled by this treatment. I will be reporting it to the better business bureau and consumer reporting agency as well.

    Westside Auto Pros

I asked them to check out a noise coming from the drive train. The car is FWD.I told them I suspected it was either the transmission or a wheel bearing, but that I couldn't isolate the source of the noise.

The car was high mileage, so I told them I was concerned about investing too much in it.

They evaluated the car and recommended that I have them fix a transmission seal, replace the clutch, fix a coolant leak, and replace the timing belt. Total cost would have been more than $2000.

That was more than I wanted to spend, so I decided to take a look for myself. When I put the car up on blocks and let the front wheels turn it was immediately apparent that the noise was coming from the wheel bearing.

It was obvious that they didn't even check the wheel bearing. Since they totally misdiagnosed the problem.I asked for a refund which they refused to provide, even though they acknowledged that they should have found the wheel bearing problem.

I fixed the wheel bearing myself and the car is still going strong without any transmission, clutch, or timing belt repairs.

Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care
Provider did a good job. The speed sensor installed in our Dakota pickup has lasted 3 X longer than the previous two installed by the Dodge dealer. The transmission oil is drained, not pumped out of the filler hole. I have had transmission oil changes done on several cars over the years. I recommend Cottman

Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care
Even though it was a small job, Dennis worked me in quickly and finished in time to let me pick up the car the same day. Cottman has a good, experienced welder that did a great job for a very reasonable charge. I have always been quite satisfied with a great variety of work done at Cottman's through the years and will continue to use them! Bill

    Knudson Transmission Service
Knudson guys where great. I called them and explained I was tacking my truck on a trip and wanted to make sure it was going to be ok, they got me in the next day. when I got to the shop they got to my truck rite away, I had a few concernes about my truck and work I just had done at a local ford dealership two days before. I explained that I had a vibration coming from under the truck and that the ford dealership told me the vibration was coused by cupped tires and that I paid the dealer to replace the bad tires but I still had a vibration under my truck after paying the ford dealer over 400.00 in shop labor and tires. Knudsons took my truck for a test ride with me so I could explain what noise was bothersome to me. Knudson listen to every concern I had and when we got back to the shop they put it in one of the shop bays rite away and started working on it. I was told it would take a good half day for them to get all the work done on it, I wanted the vibration checked out and have all the fluids changed. I left and about 20 min after I left Knudson called me to let me know the vibration was caused because of a bad u-joint in the drive shaft and not because of cupped tires like the dealership told me and Knudsons went as far as to provide me the proof to take back to the ford dealership to get some of my money returned for services I didnt need. Knudsons not only went above but beyond what I expected, there price was just as they had told me and the work was done on time as well. I cant say enough about Knudson and would recommend them to anyone that wants their vehicle fixed rite the first time and at the price your told.

Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care
I did some searching online and found their website and was instantly impressed with the customer feedback.  I also checked your BBB rating of A+. I was very impressed that they didn't try to sell me something that I didn't need but offered various options to ensure that in the end I was happy. The staff was excellent and professional and I didn't feel pressured.

    Knudson Transmission Service
My son's transmission died as he was driving from Ames to Des Moines. The first service station he made it to gave us an estimate of $3,300. A Knudson Transmission representative said it would cost $2,300 to $2,500. They towed the car for free, and the final bill was $2,500. I was very happy with the professionalism of Knudson Transmission, especially since I am in Illinois and this was a long-distance transaction.

    Westside Auto Pros
What you have to understand about Westside Auto Pros is that they spend a lot of money on advertising.  Advertising is expensive, so any job that Westside does is going to be a little bit more expensive than all the guys that dont advertise.  It makes sense, but after doing some research, it turns out that I could have gotten the same job done for a lot cheaper ($100+ cheaper).
Price is not really my complaint, though.  The one thing that Westside Auto Pros prides themselves on is driving you to and from work if your car is in the shop (more overhead in the price but it was expected).  As I had just moved to Des Moines and did not know anyone in the city, this worked out well for me.  I dropped my car off in the morning, they drove me to work, and I was told several times that "I would be called when the job waws complete."  I was never called.  I finally called them at 445p, and they told me that my car had been ready for 2 hours.  I asked them why I was never contacted when the car was complete, and they said that they tried to call and couldnt get through.  I only have a cell phone, so if they tried to call, it would've shown up on my screen as a missed call.  Even if they couldnt get through, they didnt bother to try again later.  I couldnt believe that they were just going to leave me stranded without a vehicle.
After the driver picked me up, he pointed out that he was the last driver that hadnt already left for the day, so I wouldve been stranded at work had I not called their office myself.  When we finally got back to the Westside, the doors were locked.  The driver had to get someone from the shop because the office manager had already left.  If you know someone is on the way to the office to pay for and pick up their car, why would you lock the doors and leave for the day?  Terrible customer service from their front office.
The hassle of being stranded coupled with the overpriced work was enough to never use them again.
