DLet me first say I do understand the positive ratings from others. I would have been there too were it not for the final treatments. I also understand that veterinary medicine is not an exact science. And I considered (actually having put it off for quite awhile, avoiding the negative review but I ultimately decided that if it were someone else's dogs I'd want to know about it. But two of my three older dogs, a minaiture schanauzer who was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor, and a bichon friese diagnosed with mammary cancer had surgery performed there. And this is as good a spot as any to say if you really care about your pet, take another look at your bank account and see if you can't afford a board-certified veterinary surgeon rather than a GP. But at any rate I was assured by Dr. Peterson, as well as the oncologist at Iowa Veterinary Specialties, that these were routine surgeries. Well, apparently not. They both came back with "dirty margins," meaning the malignancy was not fully removed. Tara, the bichon was first. Dr. Frye performed the surgery. When she told me of the dirty margins, I asked about the prognosis, she simply said 3-6 months with no exlanation nor hint of apology about the unsuccessful surgery. Dr. Peterson handled it better, demonstrating that she really was apologetic about Sophie's mast cell coming back "dirty," and explaining that she thought she was cutting for adequate margins but that mast cell tumors were "tricky." Although I spent several thousand dollars with the IVS oncologist post-surgery, both dogs were dead within a year. I do need to say that I enjoyed working with Dr. Peterson (although I question her billing herself as "integrative" ... when I think of intergrative, I think of being at least somewhat familiar with Chinese herbs and holistic medicine in general) and I realize that for a GP, most of their surgeries consist of neutering and spaying. I have to accept responsilibility for asking them to get outside of their comfort zones when i should have taken them to a veterinary surgeon. I decided I couldn't afford it before their surgery, but after the botched surgeries I was able to go into debt to pay for oncologoical care, but to no avail.

FThe experience there keeps getting worse. Charging for services that weren't performed. There rude and unprofessional. This time they refused to do the exam then wouldn't give me my dog back. I will never go back to this place again . In fact I will be posting my experience on all social media sites over the next couple days.

FWebsite says they groom ALL breeds. This is not true. I just tried to make an appointment for my Great Pyr and they told me that they won't groom her because of her size. She's 105 pounds.... Very disappointed as I see so many good reviews for this groomer.

FRather than a trim, they shaved my dog. The shave wasn't even done well. It was in patches, with some areas showing skin, and they also cut his paw. They left his tail and his ears long, which just looked ridiculous. When I called to speak to the owner she requested to call me back. Two days later she sent me a text, rather than a call, because she said she could tell I was a first time dog owner and I had no idea how to care for my dog. There was no apology, no "let me make it right", "bring him back and we will fix it" (which I would not have done), or a refund of my money.

A4 PAWS UNLEASHED4Paws is the greatest Doggie Day Care service. We use the Urbandale location and all the girls are fantastic per lovers. Our Karma goes there about three days a week and loves it. We sometimes go out of town and fell 100% confident that she is well loved when we are out of town. They also do a fantastic job clipping her nails and giving her a bath every once in a while. Fantastic service that deserves 10 STARS!!!- Skip H.

AGreenbelt KennelsI have a special needs (blind) rescue dog. The wonderful staff at Greenbelt has been so good to her. She is not sure she wants to leave when I pick her up, and that is a good sign. The experience at day care has transformed my little girl. She was mistreated in her earlier life and was not well socialized. At Greenbelt, she is respected and allowed to be successful at being a dog. She came a long way under my care, but after consistent experiences at Greenbelt Kennel day care, my sweetie is transformed. She carries herself with confidence, holding her head high. She approaches other dogs and people on her own, something she never did before. I also have kenneled her at Greenbelt. She gets to interact with other boarders and is not left isolated in a small cubbyhole or cage. When she is confined, for her own wellbeing, the space is large; she can move about comfortably. Finally, the groomers do an excellent job. My dog had been afraid of her other groomer. Not at Greenbelt; she is so happy to go to the groomers, and they do a lovely job, especially around her fragile eyes. I am so thankful to Jean Brown and all the staff at Greenbelt for the good care they give my dog.- Christine W.

AGreenbelt KennelsI brought her at 7AM when they open their doors and she was done before 8:30AM, and better still, she was happy. She wasn't dropping her ears and tail or shaking. She was absolutely in love with the groomer, and was completely comfortable. They are amazing over at Greenbelt, and the price I was charged was less than the online price I had prepared to pay.The groomer then talked to me about the dogs experience and behavior during the process, and explained that she had had to use the low dry setting because my dog didn't like the other setting, which made me feel even better that she paid attention to my dog and did all that she could to make her comfortable.- Valerie C.

AGreenbelt KennelsThis is absolutely as good as it gets! If it were possible to give higher than an A, I definitely would. I just moved to the area and was looking for a groomer for my little yorkie mix. She was an abused and neglected stray when I found her, so she has some quirks. Most relevantly, she cannot be confined (she has actually eaten her way out of a hard plastic kennel, teeth bleeding) and she's afraid of loud noises. I called Deb and asked if she could groom little Ava without putting her in a kennel, and she said she absolutely could and that she'd do the grooming as quickly as possible so Ava could go back home. I could not have been more impressed. I showed up for my appointment, and Deb remembered that Ava didn't want to be in a kennel. Within an hour (an hour, people!), she called and said Ava was ready to come home! When I picked her up, they had set up a little play pen in the lobby for her, with a bed and a blanket, and they were playing with her. Ava was adorable -- with a handkerchief around her neck and a pretty flower in her hair! Deb was super complimentary of Ava's behavior (compared to other groomers who have said my dog did "better than I expected"). She also noted that Ava doesn't like the dryer (note the fear of loud noises), so she didn't dry her all the way. I can't tell you how rare it is to find a groomer who is so attentive to the dog's needs -- so KIND and COMPETENT and EXCEPTIONAL. If you have a dog and you care about how he or she is treated when groomed, this is absolutely, hands down, no doubt, THE place to go.- Hayden B.

AGreenbelt KennelsThey're fantastic with my dogs. They were very good. My two dogs are very shy and they worked with him for a long time trying to get to being so shy. Greenbelt is like home to them. They're flexible with our schedule. They're both patient with my dogs and they're wonderful too.- maureen g.
