Chiropractor reviews in Des Moines

    Michael E. Wagner, Chiropractor
Went home with 2 numb feet with shooting pains in both legs. Wagner billed me for 3 months thinking I would actually pay the huge problems he caused me. He told me that he would be glad to treat the problems, never admitting that he caused them. That was over 3 years ago and the problems still exist. I suggest that people going to a chiro for care to make sure the chiro does not use an "activator" to treat you. There are professionals in the health care business and I would highly suggest seeking a professional for health care.

I will start out with the good - I really liked Dr. Matt - He was kind and did a very efficient job as well as spent time to be attentive and tend to our needs as patients. He offered value added services and was at least, I thought, up front about the costs of them but was never pushy or high pressure. My wife bought orthotics and was happy with them as well. The bad- I had come in from a vehicle accident and without insurance- but everything was tallied in a bill that I never saw but was assured by his office that I had a fee of $40 per visit and nothing more (as I was unsure that work comp/auto insurance etc would ever even cover it).... come to find out, years down the road and we settled- their fees were denied by work comp and not included in my settlement so I was stuck with the bill and there were a TON of extra charges on the bill that were NEVER authorized. Document fees for both attorneys, traction and electronic muscle stimulation charges (that were never disclosed at the time of service) and no bills were ever sent along the way for me to choose NOT to receive future services which added cost. The office gal Amy told me when I expressed my discontent that these were all standard charges and to copy directly from the email - "If the discount offered in my previous email is not acceptable, then payment is due in full on ##/##/##. Unfortunately, you can't pick and choose which services you feel like paying for after treatment was received." "No further discounts will be offered at this time." - I never asked for a discount- only to be charged what I was told I would be..... some items charged I would have never authorized had I known but I was assured by former office staff my fees were set and flat fee per visit. There was no willingness to fix, or discuss the bill only an offer to reduce it by $52 and change when in reality my bill should have been $620 instead of $752. "Dr. Matt does not have anything to do with the billing department. He won't be of much help if you are looking for lenience. He can, however, answer any chiropractic or medical questions you may have." - Sorry Dr Matt, you are losing a patient because your office staff isn't friendly and I was told I couldn't even talk to you about it. I will be seeking another chiropractic office to service my family's needs and will no longer be recommending this office and will go out of my way to let others know of my negative experience. **** After my review was posted, the office contacted my attorney's office to ask my review be removed. I was poorly treated and given no opportunity to rectify the situation, why should my review be altered or removed if my experience hasn't changed and my issue not resolved? A complaint has been filed with the Better Business Bureau.

No private rooms. Massage rooms are small. You can never get scheduled when you want due to lack of staff. Finding a good therapist here is a nightmare and they are ALWAYS gone by time you come in for your next appointment.

I was looking for a new chiropractor after moving into the Altoona area.  I called his office and he agreed to see me.  I was expecting to have a treatment as most chiropractors do when you call for an appointment.  He called it a consultation and took my $45 and said I would need to have x-rays first.  What an absolute joke!!  I would never had the consultation if I wasn't going to be treated.  He basically wasted an hour of my time and I still have a neckache.  I was not injured so there was no reason that he had to have x-rays before he could give me any treatments.  DO NOT GO TO HIM.  HIs main concern was how he was going to be paid.

    Michael E. Wagner, Chiropractor
Dr. Wagner treated my neck but also treated other areas of my body.  I didn't request any other treatment than for my neck.
Wagner said that he had just followed their standard of care, thumping his machine on my back and my legs with his activator.  The same day after my visit to his office I felt numbness my right foot.  Now three months later I have shooting pains in both legs and both feet.  I am an otherwise very healthy person with no previous issues regarding my back, legs or feet.
Wagner claims no responsibility for these issues.  I don't believe it was a coincidence that these problems started the same day as my appt with Wagner.  His introductory video shows the "activator" device can move discs in the spine and I believe that is exactly what happened.
Since that visit to Family Chiropractic I have had numerous doctor's appointments with more scheduled and I'm now on a prescription drug to help resolve the problem.  If Wagner has helped others, he certainly did not help me.  Trusting in his method of treatment was a big mistake.  I really feel chiropractors using the "activator" method should warn people of the possible side effects of treating other healthy parts of your body that you did not ask to be treated.

    Rohlfsen, Dr. Brett J.
I always get great service here.  I initially started seeing Dr. Rohlfsen after a persistent headache that I had for five days.  My primary care physician did not help - their answer was a whopping dose of injectable ibuprofen that did nothing for me.  After my initial appointment for the headache with Dr. Rohlfsen, it was gone in a matter of a day or two.   He was very thorough and made sure that he was available if I had any issues over the weekend. I have continued to see Dr. Rohlfsen over the years and have never felt better.  The staff is fantastic as well!  I would recommend this clinic to anyone in search of a great chiropractor.

It was a very thorough exam and the treatment was immediate relief for much of the pain. He also gave me some exercises to strengthen my back. I have had to go back for some follow up and minor adjustments when it has acted up again, but it is much better over all. His massage therapist Corrinna is awesome too.

Dr. Krohse is one of the few ART practitioners in the Des Moines area, and his work on my wrist has allowed me to work without wearing a brace for the first time in nearly a decade. He started with a thorough initial assessment, explained the recommended treatment in detail, and walked me through daily exercises which I still use. I primarily visit Dr. Krohse for the ART treatments, but the chiropractic adjustments are beneficial as well.

The hot stone massage was one of the best I've ever had. The masseuse was very professional, as were the entire staff in the Yost practice. I would not hesitate to schedule another massage appointment, and would definitely recommend their facility.

After the fall I went to Dr Van Wyk. He was quite polite, but did not want to preform services at this time. He sent me for xrays which I obtained. The letter from the Iowa Radiology Clinic showed no fractures of vertabra and I expected treatment. Instead I was sent to my primary physcian for muscle relaxants and anti-inflamatories. 2 days later I returned to Dr Van Wyk expecting treayment. Instead he hem hawed and was indecisive about possible fractures. I left with no correction or pain relief. I found another chiropractor.
