10 Questions to Ask a Masonry Contractor

The initial contact was good and the price was fair. So they started the work and replaced the flat roof which went well. Then when they started on the chimney they found they would need to remove some of the roof to access everything which would be some additional cost. I agreed to this and they started the work but then there were delays and communication issues for over 2 months. They ended up not completing the job and leaving me high and dry to complete it myself.

I had recently bought the home and didn't have any history of the fireplace.  He checked everything out, cleaned it and gave helpful tips on using the fireplace.  The cost for the service was very good based on two other calls I'd made to local people.

Gary Tallman has been my contractor for over 10 years.  I first contacted him in 2002 to replace the roof on my home.  I was very pleased with his estimate and the work that was performed.  He was professional, competent and personable.   He made sure I knew what he was doing and why he was doing it.   My home is about 50 years old and so items often wear out , need to be replaced and/or updated.  He explains everything and will work with you on ideas and alternatives.  Many of his alternatives have been better than my original plans.  He is generous with his contacts and his knowledge.
Over time, he has almost rebuilt my home, fixing and replacing previous shoddy repairs and helping me to choose prudent upgrades with an eye to quality and detail.  He responds in a timely fashion, always returns calls and is available for emergencies.  He is the first person I turn to when I have a problem with my home and one of the few I I trust to be left alone in my home when I cannot be there and work needs to be done.  I would love to clone him and keep one for myself.

Our front and back porch had settled over the years. After several attempts to find a company that would provide a cost-effective solution to fix our front and back porch, a neighbor gave us a reference. After contacting Juan, he stopped by in less than an hour to provide an elegant solution at a reasonable price.

Juan bills himself as a and quot;Masonry Artistand quot; and after watching him work and seeing the finished product, we couldn't agree more. During the estimation process, we described the basics of what we looking for, then Juan described what he could do and was even better that we'd ever imagined.

Our front and back porches look so much better than if we'd gone a more expensive route and simply removed and replaced them with newer cement porches. They are truly works of art and our neighbors agree.

He and his two co-workers worked very hard to please and stand behind their work.

First of all, this is a straight wall, that needs a drainage pipe at the base on the adjacent neighbors side of the wall. An area was dug out for that pipe and the wall was to be started on our side of the pipe location. That was not done. Instead, they started building the wall in the area that was dug for the drainage pipe. That pipe was to be placed at the property line, so now, if we lay a pipe it would have to be laid on the neighbors side of the property line. Secondly, the retaining wall, which are usually stepped for both stability and strength, was built straight up. Thirdly, this joke of a wall was as much as 8 degrees off on all plains. Not level, not plumb. And NOTHING used to make the wall solid to any degree. No grout, caulk, fill in between any of the bricks... nothing. The brick, being rough-cut, tends to wobble and rock a bit if not secured. And fourthly, these idiots worked for four days over three weeks for a total of about 8 - hours, yet they have informed the contractor that they worked nearly 25 hours. They showed up whenever they wanted, especially after telling us they would be here at certain days and times. They skipped out on an entire weekend after informing us they would finish the job that weekend. The wall is having to rebuild from start. We have to completely tear down this existing "wall" and move everything 8 inches closer to out home and start over, at LEAST doubling our costs. RCR Masonry is a scamming company that, in my opinion, commit fraud and are out to take advantage of those in need. All of this nonsense has happened to a family that finally found a home after being flooded out of the previous. We have been charged $1800.00 for this crap... and we have to pay another $1000 or so to have it done the right way. I'd love to be able to post video to show this worthless work.

Excellent. The new wall looks fantastic. They were prompt and professional. We got three estimates and Pesek was in the middle. They were recommended by a neighbor so we went with them.

Very well. Brick was a perfect match, which was a miracle given the nearly 100 year old age of the house. Workers were efficient and polite; clean up was excellent.
