Door Installation reviews in Bettendorf

    Green Valley Roofing Siding Windows
First, we had a very difficult job that most wouldn't take on because we had an old stucco home and we wanted siding and windows and a lot of prep work was needed before siding could even get put on. That's what we were very thoroughly told before we signed with them and what we saw once the project began. We also threw a curve ball at them when we added two doors after signing, but they accommodated and we were very happy we added them to the project. What most impressed me was the cost they gave us didn't change once the project was complete, I have to tell you I was worried about that, but we were reassured the price we were given is what the price will be at the end of the project. The installers were very professional and courteous and mindful of walkways we use in keeping stuff out of the way. At the end they did a walk around to make sure we were happy with everything and we VERY happy. We love our new home! Well looks like a new home to us.

Extremely happy with Suburban.  Professionalism and quality of the install was outstanding. Couldn't be happier with the quality of the windows and patio door.  It took 3 days with off and on rainy weather.  They ran into some problems with the framing of the patio door, but that was due to the age of the home.  They fixed the the issues without an extra charge. They were not the lowest bid,  but we went with them due to their reputation for customer service and quality.  We definitely made the right choice. Well worth the extra few hundreds of dollars.

    Jack Painting & Drywall

Kevin was very responsive and personable, and appeared to be knowledgeable about the drywall and painting industry. His price quote was very comparable to other contractors. Although Kevin did a great job with the drywall - matched new texture to existing texture in corner of kitchen - the patching he did throughout the kitchen/dining was inconsistent and he missed several areas, even after pointing this out several times.

Key areas of complaint - Painting - The trim, wall and ceiling painting performed by Kevin was unacceptable. He did not paint the ceiling, as he stated - the pencil marks from the electrician were still showing, as was a previous water stain on ceiling - and did not even put a full coat of paint on walls. There are more than a dozen areas with paint drips along the trim. Kevin was also supposed to  prime and paint three brand new, unfinished oak doors. He attempted to but did not sand the door, or properly prime, and the paint did not adhere properly. We were very surprised when Kevin said that's the best he could make it.

Although Kevin stated he used tarps to cover our new wood flooring, there was substantial overspray and paint smears - along the entire perimeter of our kitchen/dining room. He only partially calked the trim/cabinets, and partially filled nail holes.

In addition to the unacceptable craftsmanship, Kevin was very disorderly, almost careless and left our home quite messy.

Kevin's attention to detail was poor, certainly not that of a finisher, and he cost us over twice as much as his quote - nearly $2400 - to repair the damage he did.

I would not recommend Kevin for any home improvement work.

Great.  Overall more than satisfied ... worked hard and completed the job in less time, kept the house and areas clean and overall were very pleasant to have in our home.  The quality of the work was superior.

    Jack Painting & Drywall
My husband Ron has a co-worker who recently had his garage finished by Kevin Jack, of Jack Painting and Drywall.  We had been talking about getting it done for quite some time.  When my husband came home from work one day with the name of the company, I smiled, and told him that Kevin was an old friend and classmate from school, and that his dad had been in the business some years ago, so I was already familiar with the name.
We called Kevin sometime around the end of September, and within a couple of days, he was over to look at our project, which was probably the ugliest garage in the world (okay at least in Bettendorf).  We received a written bid shortly thereafter.  In looking over our garage, it was clear that Kevin is very knowledgeable, and made several suggestions we had not even thought of.   He set the expectation that, because of workload, he would probably be able to get to our project in November, and was good about keeping us informed as to when he would be able to start.
On the day the demo took place, Kevin brought his own trailer to haul away the debris.  He was always so good to sweep up any nails and keep the area as clean as possible.  While doing the demo work, it was discovered that the previous owner had camped out a bunch of crappy old doors and junk up in the attic portion of the garage, unbeknownst to us,  since it was covered we had not been up in there to "discover" it.   He helped us haul it out of there, and he hauled it away along with the rest of the old drywall (not really dry wall, but it's predecessor from years ago).    Thankfully, with November weather being what it is, we only had to park in our driveway two nights!  Kevin has a crew of four guys who came and hung the drywall and it was done within a day or so.   He continually stopped by to monitor their progress.  He also has access to an electrician, as well as a fantastic garage guy, Brian Wriedt, of Quality Door Service (and kudos to you, Brian!)   That garage door was a hosed up mess from day one, when we first bought our home three years ago.  Now, it's perfect!
During the entire process, which took a little longer than expected because of weather and the early extreme cold, we talked daily about progress and expectations.   Also during the job, we made a few minor changes (like adding extra insulation, etc.)
and Kevin was very responsive and adaptable to that.  Kevin was also great to point out areas that were just a tad less than perfect and explained why they were (which aren't noticeable anyway).  My point being that he did that before we would "find" anything.  He also installed trim around the doors and window, even running out to purchase another piece when we were short, and did an excellent job with that.
Included with the garage renovation, Kevin was going to take care of the less than perfect floor that needs serious attention. Initially he suggested a product, but later told us that after some research and conversation with the supplier, he did not feel comfortable applying the product because he feared it would ultimately fail, and said that once the weather warms up he will put us in contact with an individual who can help us with that.
Now that the job is complete, we could not be happier with the result.  I think I could almost host something out there, it looks so nice!   I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend Kevin to all of my friends and family and we could not be happier with the end result.

Overall, I think he did a pretty good job and his prices were competitive. He was very friendly, easygoing, and easy to talk to. I felt like he wanted to answer my questions and he didn't make me feel dumb or stupid when I had a question. However, I do think that he didn't pay as much attention to detail as I would've liked. I just think that he needs to pay more attention to detail. If you wanted to look perfect like a magazine, he's probably not the person, but if it's something that's not going to stare you on the face or if you don’t care if it's exactly perfect, he's a good guy to have.

I thought their prices were competitive, but they always made me feel kind of dumb when I had a question. I don't feel like they really wanted to answer my questions and I don't feel like they really wanted me to talk or really do anything at all. There was nothing wrong with the siding or the shutters. However, the door was not properly installed. I kept complaining about it and a guy would call and say he would come to look at it and he would never show up and we went round on that for a year or year and a half. I called to complain about the door again and she said well, why you waited so long to do anything about it and I said I haven't. I said I called and you have somebody call me, they set up an appointment and they never show up and cancel on me and so, they're like oh, he's not the guy that usually installs doors, we will send out our good guy and I'm thinking why didn't you send your good guy out to begin with. The guy who does the crappy job scratched our door and so our brand new door that we just paid to have professionally painted, has a big scratch on the side and I wasn't really excited about that. It was to the point where we could not get the front door open. We were seriously afraid that if there was a fire, we would die in the house because we could not get the door to open, it was that bad. So the guy who does the crappy job came and looked at it, took out his screw driver and moved stuff around and he ended up scratching the front door. When I called to complain about that, that's when they sent out the good guy, but they said that because of the cold weather, they could not do any putt or touchup on the door and when the weather got warm, I called to have somebody to come out and do the putty and touchup on the door, but they would make an appointment and then they would never show up. When they sent me the good guy, he did fix the door, it does work now, but we still have the big gouge on it.

I had asked that the new door be keyed to match my other doors. Apparently, that message hadn't been communicated because the new door had new locks. I spoke with the secretary and she said that the new door couldn't be rekeyed to match my old locks. I got an estimate to have my other 2 locks changed to match the new door. The estimate was too high. Fortunately, a manager was able to replace the other 2 locks and the 2 knobs at no charge. There was another minor problem with the paint, but they came back out to resolve it.

Provider did not follow up with estimate, so after 1 week  I called Company. I was assured that estimate would be provided by email ASAP. Three days later I got email estimate for about half the work I indicated that I was interested in. I moved on to another provider.

UPDATE: There was a miscommunication, I will consider using this company in the future.

Third time we have used Suburban.  They installed our third front door and came back for a storm door install.  We were on front door # 3 due to bad installs by others, All is Perfect.  We trust Suburban to use quality products, do a great install and stand by their job!  Highly recommend.
