Fence Company reviews in Ankeny

Was very pleased with Alan's communication and timeliness. Work began exactly when he said it would, and was completed within a week. Given the sheer size of the project (450 feet of fence with 3 gates), this was impressive. I selected steel posts (Postmaster) rather than wooden posts, and many of the holes had to be dug manually due to electric/gas/cable line location. This obviously added to the costs, but this quote was still the lowest by far. The fence looks wonderful, and I have had many compliments from friends and neighbors.

Alan was awesome to work with. He fit us in right at the end of last season. We had just moved into our house and needed a fence installed for our dog, Charlie. I was out of state and unable to get in contact with my neighbor to get his opinion about the fence. Alan spoke with our neighbor and made sure everything was ok. When Alan arrived to see the land survey, he quickly called me to let me know we had, even more, land than we initially thought. We requested a larger fence and Alan provided. Being out of town and adjusting the initial plan right before the install provided some obstacles for Alan, but he did an amazing job. We are very happy with everything he did and would definitely hire him again. Please note, Alan never even mentioned leaving a review on Angie's List to us, that should show how many people have had a great experience working with him and just had to get back on here to tell others. His price was close to $2,000 cheaper than other fencing companies in the area as well. Hire Alan, you won't be disappointed.

It went amazing. They called me and informed me when an estimated time of week when it would they would be out to put the posts in. The day of putting posts in they called me to let me know my time had moved up if that was okay with me. Then the next day they put the chain link in. The work was done in a timely fashion.

Pete came over the same day and evaluated and gave me an estimate. He came up with a plan and executed it two days later. Looked great and was very sturdy. Pete was great to work with. It was hard to find someone to come out and do a small job. He really bailed us out! Super Job!

The quote took a little longer than I would have liked due to some miscommunications, but once we got that ironed out everything went great. The fence looks nice, the product seems sturdy and the installation was done well. The job took just over a day - exactly as they had communicated- and I came home to a new fence and a clean worksite. I would use them again.  I had bid the job several places and their quote was slightly lower than the competition, but not significantly so.  Their lead times were several weeks shorter, however.

Had them in for an estimate in May 2015. Agreed that if I tore out existing fence and let them use a bobcat price would be around $13250 plus $3 for any post that was ripped out for 320 linear feet of vinyl fence including 3 gates (1-double). They would start the week before & have done prior to the 4th of July. We left about 15-17 posts after tearing out and removing existing cedar fence. $6750 down.
They started Tuesday 6/30 with light prep and parked the bobcat in the driveway. Wednesday I came home to find bobcat tracks in my front, side and back yard because the ground was softer than anticipated. Ray offered to fill it in with dirt so I could seed or sod. I advised need to discuss with wife and advise. I sent ray and email that evening to fill in all of the tracks. Excluding gates fence was installed by Thursday  7/2, gates installed on Friday. We still have the dirt pile they were supposed to removed and the tracks in the front yard Ray had agreed to cover. Ray has yet to respond to my request to cover them so their remaining payment may be a bit slow...  Hence my lower ratings.
These guys have a good product but like a lot of people that do home projects they leave a mess behind even though they knew my neighbor would be replacing their fence next year and paying attention to their work.

    Solid Construction
Overall we are disappointed with the home we purchased from Solid Construction. During rain storms we had several windows that leaked and a basement slider that did as well. During the first heavy rain we brought this to the builders attention and were told this was typical during very heavy rains. When we brought the Window manufacturer out they told us they could do nothing as it was an installation issue. We have had a bathroom not have water in the winter as it is over the garage and it freezes so it obviously was not insulated well. Our fireplace/ mantel is also very poorly insulated and in cold weather it is 10 degrees cooler than any other place in the house. We have had electrical issues relating to light fixtures and ceiling fans as well as some plumbing problems. This has been very costly for us to correct these problems and when you spend a great deal of money on a home to begin with you don't expect to do this in the first five years. While Solid Construction Homes may be pleasing to the eye they come with many headaches.

We were very pleased with the work and our interactions with this contractor.  He was the most reasonably priced.  The work was extremely good.  He provided exactly what we asked for without hidden costs.  He went above and beyond to satisfy the customer.

I called 5 fence contractors for estimates. I heard back from 4 of them; 3 of them actually showed up. Des Moines Steel Fence was professional, on time, and reasonable, however didn't return calls and was slightly more expensive. American provided an estimate that was significantly lower (almost $1,500.00) than all the others, however, I could never get ahold of the estimator, nor get anyone to schedule the work. Mark with Central Iowa Fencing showed up on time, was professional, and gave a reasonable estimate that was in the middle as far as pricing.
I went with Mark for a few reasons. First and foremost, he always answered his phone, and followed through with what he said he was going to do. Believe it or not, this is difficult when dealing with contractors. I know - we just bought a home in Ankeny - and have had a tough time getting contractors to basically and quot;care.and quot; It's almost as though they don't need the business. I'll pay a little more for people I can count on.
Second, Mark had suggestions as far as style. No one else suggested anything, and we weren't entirely sure what to go with. He provided sample pics and had ideas for us. We ultimately went with a different style at the last minute, and he was good with this. Didn't effect anything; he adjusted and gave us what we wanted.
Mark also assured us that he doesn't contract out his work - he has a crew that comes out to do the work - and he's with them. This was accurate; he was at my home both days and oversaw the work.
The one other solid estimate I got advised they would dig post holes and pour concrete. The concrete would set over the week, and they'd be out the next week to put the fence up. I asked about steel posts and there was a premium charge for those.
Mark had them for the same price. Said the cost of QuikCrete vs the steel posts offset one another. The other company also charged to haul away the dirt for the fence posts - I'd never heard of that. Because of the steel post option, he was able to get a 340 ft fence up in two days.
I adjusted the fence on the day they came out to do the install. I had them increase the height halfway through for more privacy and install a 3rd gate. This wasn't a problem at all.
Overall, the price was approximately $15 per foot - which I found to be pretty standard for the contractors that actually provided an estimate; plus a premium charge for the gates. Mine was more expensive because of the shadowbox style - which has more boards than strict privacy.
Mark was able to schedule work 2 weeks out, where most of the other larger companies were already 1-2 months out.
When the work was finished, the length was slightly shorter than what I was originally quoted for; so the cost was less than what he had estimated.
I'd recommend Central Iowa Fencing and also use them in the future. Pricing seems expensive, but get several estimates - it seems consistent. I considered a and quot;Band quot; for pricing, but I think the extra cost was worth not dealing with contractors who don't return calls. If you had the time and manpower, you could do the fence yourself for significantly less. Not something I was willing to attempt.

During a high wind storm the 4x4 holding up a panel of my cedar privacy fence and attached gate snapped and fell.  On 4/1/14 I left a message to discuss getting an estimate for my fence that had been damaged by the wind. On the 2nd I got a return call I gave them the information and address and they left an estimate for $600 in indicating that 3 posts, the panel and gate would need to be replaced.
After looking at the gate and concluding it could be reused I contacted them on the 5th and and told them that also telling them that I only need this repair to last a year as we plan on having the fence replaced with a vinyl one next year.  They said if they could reuse the gate it would be around $400. I asked how long until they could get to it and was told 2-3 weeks (14-21 days) depending on the weather and I agreed to have them do the work.
As of yesterday almost 4 1/2 weeks later I haven't had  further contact but still have a 12' hole in my fence.   Not willing to wait any longer I went ahead and dug out the snapped post and 2' of concrete replacing it myself.  The last few weeks we have had quite a bit of rain and I can understand them running behind but I would have thought  sometime near the end of the 21 to 30 days they would have called me to let me know they were behind due to weather and they had me on their list. Nothing. They have obviously lost  my future business of replacing over 48 panels of fence and 3 gates, I thought this would have motivated them somehow.
