    College Works Painting - Minnesota
We were very pleased. The exterior painting of the siding and trim of the house was done well, on time, using the paint that we purchased. I think that was an important factor that we felt would assure the quality of the paint. Ally was very responsive to our questions, and the young men who did the painting did a really good job. There was an area of the porch that we had them wash for us and that was well done also.

    Central Iowa Fencing LTD
We have been very happy with every aspect of working with Central Iowa Fencing.  Their estimate was lower than another estimate we received, and after looking at some other work they did near our house we decided to schedule them to install our fence.  They were willing to add a custom element to our fence (a cap at the top).
The crew who did the installation worked hard and were very helpful and respectful.  The job took a little longer than expected because they had to hand dig all of the posts (the ground was too soft for the post driver to secure the posts).  There was one minor oversight that we noticed after they left, and we let Mark know about it and it was fixed the next day.
The final product looks really nice.  They really paid attention to detail throughout the project and it shows.  We plan to use them again for our next project.

    Painting by Gene
Gene did a nice job and was super friendly. He did most of the work himself with help from his employee Gary. I will ask Gene to do some additional painting in the future. I thought his prices were reasonable. He does not have a cell phone (Gene is an older gentleman) so make sure you leave a message and he will get back to you. He was very helpful picking out paint and allowed us to buy it from anywhere we wanted. He used his discount as a contractor to buy the paint and kept all the receipts for us. He didn't charge any extra for paint, just what it cost. He did all the work and made sure it was finished to our satisfaction before he made us pay anything. I will be recommending him to anyone who is in need of painting.

    Taylor Builders
They are very fast, did the house in four days and the roof in one day, Clean up was adequate. Their was a few little things that need to have some attention and Tim sent the crew back out. I supervised so it was done the way I wanted it. Tim subcontracted the stone work out, and they didn't level the top ledge stone, which was out of level three fourth of an inch. I.had then come back and I supervised the job. Tim and Sam are easy to work with and very helpful in helping you decide the correct color combinations and material.. Right before they put the roof on my home, they did a tear off and roof replace on an apartment house I own..Two years before they did tear off and replacement of the porch roof on that building. The cost for the porch was $3,000 and the cost for the building which is extremely steep was $10,000. It has been all most a year on the building and house, and three years on the porch and I have had no leaks. There Warranty is two years, I would prefer 5 years. Although I had to make a few minor adjustments, any inconvenience is more than offset by the savings you receive. Tim stayed with his quote and my roof and siding on my home look great. The apartment building looks nice as well.

    Pressure Point Cleaners
Two guys showed up in a large white van right on time.  They went to work and were done with little mess left behind.  Gutters were cleaned and ready for gutter guards to be applied.
Communication with the company was always easy and well understood.  I misread the package deal on Angie's List.  It specifically states that gutter guards must be removed before they will clean the gutters.  I had about 20 linear feet of gutter guards that I didn't realize were in my gutters (just purchased home).  I was a bit disappointed to find this. However, I messaged the company back and they were happy to return at no cost to clean these sections of gutters.
That said, I would recommend them to anyone; just understand that you must first take the screens off of your gutters.

    Kent Sably
He is a wonderful painter. We had water and termite damage but Kent and his crew did a great job. He made the house look like it came out of Better Homes and Gardens. The pricing is pretty average and the quality is wonderful!

    Iowa Home Consulting
Iowa Home Consulting did a great job painting the exterior of our home.  We received three bids on the project, and theirs came in lowest.  We've also worked with them on numerous other projects, so the choice was clear.  They did a great job throughout, from replacing rotten trim pieces to preparing the surfaces for paint to applying the paint.  They were open to minor changes and suggestions from me during the job.  The job took a little longer than planned due to very cold temperatures, but when the temperatures were good for painting they arrived early and stayed late to get the job done.
In sum, it was a great experience, and we are really happy with how the project turned out.  The house looks great.  We will hire them again, and in fact we already have done so.

We knew we needed to reside our house so I had been researching and contacting siding companies.  I received a cold call from American Building Centers (ABC) telling me we had been pre-selected for a siding demonstration in Ames.  I agreed to entertain the sales pitch.  On 08/07/2014 Frank Domanico (like the Des Moines steak) arrived for the presentation.  Typical contractor pitch, but with less documentation then from other vendors.  Frank provided samples of a quality siding, new soffits, wrapped trim, upgraded siding from the factory, a new exterior door, and matching paint for the garage door.  Price was at the very low end of other quotes.  I was promised that all insulation joints would be taped and that all air gaps behind the brick fascia would be sealed. ABC promised to start on 08/12/2014 with their best installer with no money down and a good interest rate with GE financing and they would finish the job in 5-7 days.  We agreed to proceed with the project.
At 10 Am on 08/12/2014 I called ABC to see if the installer would arrive as scheduled.  I was told they had to pick up materials and that they were on their way.  Arrived home at the end of the day to be greeted by the installer who was removing gutters and installing insulation.  The insulation was not what was explained in the sales presentation.  Installation of the insulation was torn at the edges and did not butt up to straight edges.  After discussing the insulation with the installer, I was told that the insulation's only purpose was to true up the wall and did not provide any other benefit.  On the second day, I observed more of the same.  On the third day I noticed that the installer was arriving with different apprentices each day and that the quality of the insulation installation did not improve.  A call to Frank Domanico yielded only his question of do we want a different installer.  Since the installer stated that he was ABC's best installer, I agreed to keep the crew. Errors included the wrong style of siding, wrapping soffits and posts with the wrong metal, and some inconsistent installations. The installer was aggressive in asking for sign off so he could get paid.
Needless to say, the installer finished the job in the 4th WEEK after starting the job with no one from the original crew.  I finally signed off on the job, to my wife's displeasure, just to get them off the property.  The installation did require followup by another installer to correct errors from the initial installer.  I also will do some repairs on my own to complete the job including re-installation of a storm door, repairing poorly installed trim, and reinstalling a light fixture that was installed incorrectly.
When we received our first payment notice the interest rate from ABC's finance company was 26.99%.  That was for a couple with credit scores of 765 and 801.  Needless to say we went to the credit union and secured a home equity loan for 1.99%.  Finance charges for the job would have been 66% of the total cost of the siding job had we chosen to use their financing making only the minimum payment.
In the end, the house does look good, but for the low price the job was a real hassle.  As a DIY homeowner,  I could have done nearly as good of a job in the same amount of time for a lot less money.  It will be interesting to see if we have a future insurance claim resulting from installation issues.

    DeWild Exteriors Inc
Lyle responded right away. He promptly set up a date and time to give me an estimate. After talking to him and getting several other bids we chose his company to replace our roof. His crew showed up promptly on schedule. They were very polite. friendly, yet professional. They finished the job in one day. They cleaned up thoroughly when they were done. All they left behind was a brand new beautiful roof. We were happy with the quality of their workmanship that we decided to have Lyle do the siding too. He showed us options and was never pushy for the more expensive things. He was informative and helpful in helping us choose our siding. We were so impressed with Jeff and the work on the siding that we had them put on a deck, install new gutters, and replace the sliding patio door and front entry door. Throughout the whole process, Lyle was very patient with us, always kept in touch, answered phone calls and questions that we had. Lyle was always upfront about the cost and there were no surprises when it came time to pay. We appreciated his flexibility in letting us purchase the front door and decking materials on our own and just charged us for the labor. Jeff and his siding crew were very respectful, polite, and professional. We appreciated the care they put into their work, and always cleaned up everyday when they were done. Jeff and his crew are very meticulous, and are more concerned about quality and doing it right than speed. We are extremely happy with our new exterior! If you want someone with integrity who cares about quality at a VERY reasonable price then call DeWild Exteriors. If and when we build a bigger house we will call on them again!

Owner and two men who did the work were professional prompt and great to work with. They made sure that I got what I wanted. Went the extra mile to waterproof siding by putting extra lining behind seams. Left everything cleaned up when they were done.
