    C AND K Heating, Cooling & Plumbing
The biggest issue I had is, they have an employee who I have banned from the house. Because he lied, and he made a mess one time in fixing something and swept the crumbs of the sheet rocks that he made while he was doing the work, swept it under my bath mat. So I complained to a supervisor and the supervisor had him call, he didn't reach me but he left a message that was " This is James, I'm sorry I made a mess, Goodbye" that was his message. The company continued to employ him and when I called, because the geothermal apparently needed some fair amount of tinkering to get them right, when I had called for service, I have been very specific, do not send James, I will turn him away and they basically said yes, we're aware of that. I wouldn't hire them again, I'm not so angry with him that I'm telling everyone about the job that they did, so when someone brings up heating and they're asking for recommendations, I recommend other companies.

The cost for the attic was $3,000-something and the sunroom was $30,000. Everything is great. I have been more than pleased with everything they have done. In fact, he is coming out next week to check on a problem that I might have in my wall because there is water in my wall. I have been very pleased with the price.

    Porter Tile Company
Bruce Porter did a good job. He is a little disorganized with his bidding process (emailing) but he finally got it figured out. I liked him well enough as an installer, but the quality of the installation is Good not Excellent. Some grout lines are inconsistent, there was small amounts of grout left on tiles. Some tiles bulge out.
I will say he did help me figure out how to tile out the window in my tub (other installers had no idea what to do) and it was a pretty slick install. Props to Bruce on that.
I would probably use Bruce again. He came out quickly after I called for initial evaluation, had a reasonable bid to me fairly quickly, and started work fairly soon after I accepted even though it was around the end of the year. He also drove from Indianola to my place in Ames. That alone is worth a bunch because other installers I got estimates from took forever at every step of the bidding process and they were in town.

The person measuring the floor for the estimate overlooked the fact the old floor covering could not be removed due to possible asbestos content. Their installer was not PC oriented and was not prompt or diligent in getting the job finished.

    Carpet One Floor & Home
They were great from start to finish. Excellent customer service and very helpful. Prompt fast service and meticulous attention to detail while here. They did a beautiful job. Products are gorgeous. They were very prompt and professional. I went back and ordered carpeting for another room already!

Installer arrived a day late to start and informed us the various areas would need to be leveled causing extra expense and time. Reason for leveling was due to some areas of old linoleum said to be asbestos which could not be removed except at great expense. We do not understand why person sent to measure did not inform us or the office of this situation.
This resulted in the project lasting almost a week for which we thought would be 2-3 days.
Installer never arrived earlier than 9-10 AM. He also did not respect other areas of the home by placing tools and other supplies on carpeting. He did not make it easy to move around the home in order to access the other bathroom. He also was disrespectful in calling the lady of the house "momma".
Overall a very disappointing experience with the exception being a good appearing floor.

    Flooring Gallery-Ames
Everything went great. In fact when we were looking to do another flooring project we were going to use Flooring Gallery, but they went out of business in Ames. Not sure about other locations.

    Ackelson Sheet Metal Inc
They guided us to the best possible carpet at our price point and they really explained what types of carpets we should put in our house based on our family. The installation was really fast, it was done in a day and the crew was clean and very respectful while we were home and they were doing it. We've been really happy. We'd never had carpet laid before and so we're really happy with how it turned out.

    Carpet One Floor & Home
Went well. We'd been looking at carpeting that floor for a few months (first time buying flooring; turns out you can't really show for it too well over the internet), but we hadn't found anything we had liked. We hadn't initially checked them out because Carpet One's website said their pad/labor costs were around $1.79/sq foot (others were around $1.20/sq foot).
But one Saturday, we were in the neighborhood so we stopped by. We walked in and saw the carpet we ended up getting as a featured sale item. Turns out their pad/labor costs actually were only around $1.20ish/sq foot too. Plus, I got a discount as an ISU Alumni Association member which is nice. FYI, their prices actually show everything included in them so you don't have to try and figure out the other costs in your head as you look. That is really nice and rare in our experience (only ones who did that).

They were great to work with. They gave a thorough estimate (showed us where seams would be, etc.). Once ordered, it was only two weeks until they were out to install it. The guys worked until 8:30 PM to get it all done which was really nice (helps to have them there only a day when you have a curious toddler who wants to help out). So everything went really well.

Every dealing I've every had with this company has been impressive. He has always helped me with different projects and has gotten the job done promptly and at a very reasonable price. I can find no problem with him and will use him in the future.
