    Kurrent Electric
The work and the results seem very good, the cost seems quite high, the response to my requests for an explanation of the bill took 2 months. For less than 2 days labor and the hardware listed in the previous paragraph, it cost $2100.00. I called repeatedly to ask for a breakdown of the cost. I finally got a handwritten note, and there was no breakdown on labor vs materials. It was either $800+ a day for labor, or the markup on components is 4-5x what you'd pay at Menards, but I'll never know because they're not responding My fault is that I let my contractor hire Kurrent without getting a cost estimate. My complaint is that I can't get past the receptionist despite repeated attempts over 2 months.

It went extremely well. Contact by phone was very easy, calls returned promptly, scheduling was convenient. Work appears immaculate to me. They explain what they are doing, are happy to converse about design of the work and consider options. They easily integrate wth the framing and insulation we have underway in the space where they are installing the lights and fixtures. They consider price in their recommendations, seeking to save cost where possible. But they are pretty expensive. That should be expected though when hiring electricians. After all, we need done what they know how to do and we don't, so we're sort of over a barrel if the project is to proceed. I can say from experience that this company is no more expensive than another popular electrician in the area we have used, I think they all charge more or less the same high rate. Overall I think the price was fair. We've scheduled them three separate times for this project, they've always been prompt in every aspect. We wouldn't have done that if we weren't satisfied with the work. Overall, highly recommended for residential remodel.

    Eagle Electric Inc
Bob was out of state when I contacted him initially. However, he responded to my e-mails right away and was very accommodating. He worked with me to make an appointment for when he returned, and that was just to complete an estimate. Ames is a bit of a drive from Ankeny, and he did the estimate for free. He arrived on time and worked with my tight schedule. His estimate was more reasonable than two other companies who provided me a quote; he was willing to take the time to explain exactly what he would be doing, and what my money would be paying for. He provided options that the other companies did not offer.

Bob went the extra mile when performing services, and I felt that he truly considered my situation and how to make sure I was getting a good value for my money.

Eagle Electric Inc. was the most logical choice for electrical services, because Bob cares!

Agreed on a cost of $50 an hour, which wasn't so bad.
Two guys spent about 8 hours, worked slowly.
Put in a light switch 6' from a door because they'd inadvertently put their own wiring in the way of putting it within reach.
Agreed to move the light switch for free.
Put in a bid to do more work: 3 outlets and a light switch for $825.
Another contractor, Miller Electric, did the 3 outlets and a light switch for $165.
We obviously didn't give the bid to Nelson, since they were 5 times as much for the same work.
They (Andrew Mott) then changed their mind and refused to move the light switch without a charge.
The concerns I have here are:
     - Not building a good reputation by fixing poor work
     - Not following through on commitments
     - Not be willing to make a short trip to fix a problem after overcharging so much
     - Charging 5 times as much as their competition
I communicated with Andrew Mott and the owners, notifying them of my decision to make this post, and they chose to not address the issue, and still wanted to charge for moving the light switch.

They were courteous and quick. They were very professional and showed up on time. They even tolerated my dog. I asked them to please knock before they came in so I could make sure the dog wouldn’t escape and they did that! They were great!  I was very pleased that they were willing to come on New Year ’s Eve day as well.

Great. We had more lighting done than the average house as we included the back yard trees in all blue lights. The lights used are super bright and the result is amazing. We also wanted to view all the lights from the indoors looking out. Everyone was so surprised on thanksgiving when all the lights came on. You can see them through the windows while eating or walking around the inside. A simpler lighting project would be less and we also used quite a large number of lights. Best of all they won't be up at Easter because they come and do all renoval?

    Miller Electric
He was the first person that didn't talk me out of it. I was determined to do the upgrade because the 150 panel was the minimum required for a house the size I have and since its a new house and I am finishing the basement (the room with the electric panel will be a finished laundry room) that would mean I would have to mess the wall to be able to upgrade in the future. He informed that right now I didn't need to upgrade the panel if I didn't want and for finishing the basement I could just add another panel for more slots. But that if in the future I planned on adding things like a hot tub, and other big things that would be advised. As for performing his service he did a great job, got the permits, schedule with the power company to have it shut when needed, was on time with his schedule, very professional, organized and after he left the only trace I had he was here was a brand new upgraded panel. The cost was actually the best I got, all other electricians I talked to (some didn't even bothered to come to my place to check it) informed I would spend at least double and that it wasn't worth it. I can assure you it was worth having a proper size electric panel and not having to add another panel for the necessary slots and he even organized the phone and tv cables on my wall that were all tangled. I will definitely hire him again in the future.

Very impressed with Nelson Electric. They showed up when they said they would, and completed the work by the time they said it would be finished. Communications are primarily handled through a project manager who does the estimating, and scheduling, similar to commercial construction. In my opinion, this adds a higher level of professionalism. I would suspect their labor rates may be higher than other electricians in town because of higher overhead, but the added cost was worth it in my opinion. They responded to a question I had after construction and came back within a week to correct some minor items that I noticed.

They were very professional. They set up time. If they said they were going to be there at 8 o'clock, I would go over to the house about 7:55, and they were already waiting. They were always early; so, they were very prompt. We had put a new flooring, and they were very careful how they walk not to wreck the flooring. They're just very good. I think the price was fair.

the scheduling and visit went great, he talked me out of upgrading my panel but did get the informarion to add an extra electric panel, add whole home power surge and pull the 220 line because we are finishing the basement. Promised me to send an email with quote in January because it was holidays plus i was going to be travelling. Never got my quote, and when i called them they said they would be sending it asap. Had to call again and after a few days got a call telling me that their quoting software was with problems and they were not able to retrieve my quote nor make a new one but that they would call me with it when they had it fixed. Got one more call saying they were working on it but nothing else. I dont understand how can someone cant make a quote without the software, its not a huge project nor complicated and if they didnt want to do the job, they should have just told me so.
