    Chumbley's Auto Care
My car broke down on the way to work and I had it towed to Chumbleys.  It blew the engine, so I declined to repair it due to the age of the vehicle.  They have done a lot of work for me over the years an many differnt cars and trucks and they have always been top notch.  Very professional, good communication and everything done correctly the first time.  I will continue to use them in the future.

    J & D TOWING
I was very upset when they came because of the way AAA handled everything.  J & D came within 20 minutes of learning of the situation.  He was very  pleasant about the whole deal.  I'd tell my friends he would treat you like family and try to fix within reason, wouldn't overstep what he knew and he would look over the vehicle.

My boyfriend couldn't get his car started after accidentally parking on top of a railroad tie. My regular mechanic was booked solid, but he gave me the name of Perry's and they had a tow truck drive out to the car within minutes of my speaking with them. After scratching our heads for a while, we finally discovered that in parking on the railroad tie my boyfriend had driven a big metal spike directly into his main wiring box. The tow truck driver and I had a good laugh, and he took the car straight back to the shop. 3 hours later, I received a call that it was all fixed up and that they had even fixed a couple of other minor problems.

The shop's motto printed on their invoices is something like, "Fast, Cheap, Good, pick any of the two." This is dead on and I have experienced a combination of any of the two on several occasions.  More often than not, it is always cheap, but not always fast and not always good.  If cost of car repairs is a major concern, then go to these guys as they seem to have some of the lowest labor rates in town.  They almost always seem to use junkyard, or re-man parts too, which helps to keep cost down.  If you need your car returned to you quickly, or you expect someone to call you back when you ask them too, then don't call Fix-it.  Sometimes they will get your car done in a couple of days but no one ever bothers to call you and tell you that it's done.  They are also very awkward to talk with on the phone when you do call them.   I've seen them be absent-minded in the completion of their repairs.  For example after they performed a coolant flush for me, I noticed a significant leak in the hose going to the heater core.  I was able to fix it myself, and didn't bother to take it back in to them, but they obviously didn't check the connections in the heater core after they finished the flush. On a different occasion when they replaced an igniftion coil, they had to temporarily move the coolant reservoir out of the way.  After picking up the car I heard something rattling.  Popped the hood and found the coolant reservoir laying loose in the engine compartment.   That said, most of the time, they complete the repair with minimal issues. They do seem to be honest and fair and only do the work they are required to do, and charge fairly for their service.  The two times I have used them for towing services they have been very responsive and again, low-cost. Again - if you want low-cost, this is your place.  If you're in a hurry, and expect professional service, better go somewhere else.

    Ankeny Towing
Ankeny Towing showed up within a reasonable time however their tools were in poor repair and were not professional.  They stripped the lug nuts on my tire and then had to return to tow the car with a tow truck.  Locked the keys in the car and had to break in.  Dropped me off at 1 am at car mechanics.  I had to find a taxi to take me home ($35) and in the morning had to pay for new lug nuts.  My mechanic charged $20.50 for the tire repair and just over $30 for new lug nuts.  I filed a complaint with my insurance company's roadside assistance service and hope to recoup some of my costs.

    Cotofo's Auto Service
I tried just now to contact them concerning a very sensitive and personal matter and they were beyond rude, condescending, and unprofessional. I contacted the email address they have listed on their website and this was the reply I got back: "Give your adreess so i can send. A box of condomes, so you stop have mote kid, get a job **** or at leade charge for ***, don give your ***** for free ." These people do not know me or anything about me. I have never encountered this type of treatment before in my entire life. I wouldn't take anything of mine to them nor recommend taking anything to them because of their heartless and disrespectful treatment. I am in total shock and appalled by this treatment. I will be reporting it to the better business bureau and consumer reporting agency as well.

    Westside Auto Pros
DO NOT USE WESTSIDE AUTO PROS AAA used these guys as a tow service, but would not tow to my normal mechanic because it was over 25 miles so I had them take it to their shop in Des Moines. I had a flat tire (no spare) and the heat was not working. Waited in my unheated car for over 2 hours in -25 windchill weather and could not get ahold of anyone at the shop. Westside Auto Pros tried to charge me $3,200 for so called "Mandatory Repairs" or $3,600 for everything. They did work on my car without my permission and charged me for it. We ended up towing it to my mechanic in Adel, when the tow truck got their he called us and asked if we knew that the car was drivable. So I had paid for the work that I didn't ask to be done and for an unnecessary tow. They had sent me 3 emails with charts and lists and pictures and codes and numbers stating all the work that needed to be done. I took it to my mechanic in Adel and he charged me for 2 new tires and fixed the loose hose that was causing the heating issue for no charge. Cost me less than 800 dollars total, including the work done at Westside Auto Pros without my permission and the unnecessary tow. I fully believe that they knew I was a young female who knows nothing about cars and tried to take advantage of that. They way that the emails were set up was beyond confusing and I believe that this was another tactic to try and confuse and take advantage of me.

    Crow Tow
After being ran off the road by a drunk driver, the police called Crow Tow. I was an emotional wreck, and my husband was trying to gather our belongings. I had just gotten off of work, and had two days worth of tips in my serving book: $275. The tow truck driver overheard me asking my husband to grab my apron with my book in it, but he could not find it. Well, the driver found it and took all of the money. When I was went to file a complaint, the owner basically called me a liar. The bill was $252, and he would assume no responsibility for his driver. When I shared this experience with my insurance agent, he said he has had multiple complaints over the past few years and has even asked the police to stop calling this company. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
