    Oscar's Lawn Service Etc
Oscar and his crew showed up right on time and work solid until the job was done in the afternoon. His crew is professional, hardworking and detailed in the work they performed. My yard now looks very clean & manicured so I have say my husband and I are very happy with their work. We have hired them to do weekly maintenance of mowing & blowing. I would like to add that Lillian Oscars wife is a wonderful person and a joy to talk to over the phone setting everything up. I know that if I ever have any questions Lillian is always quick to call me back.

    Sprinkler Pro
One of the four solenoids was bad and needed replacing.  I decided to have all 4 solenoids replaced at this same time since the labor would be done within the minimum one hour service call.  After replacement, all systems are back operational.  Travis took the time to explain to me over the phone the difference between the solenoids and the valves.

    Imua Landscaping Co Inc
I've used another service but the difficulty was scheduling him because of his popularity and my job is fairly small.  The major thing was not to use spikes and he had no issues with.  Simply rappelled up the and used a hand saw to trim the low hanging leaves, and discard the fruit/nuts that were there.  There was a mynah bird nest so he left that alone.  He cleaned up after himself with a blower and removed all the cuts plus other stuff.

Since he did have time, we asked for a cut down on some areca palm trees...he handled that without any issue.  Again, he cleaned up after himself and you'd never know he was there.  I would highly recommend their service.

    Aloha Aina Landscaping LLC
The crew of 3-4 worked on the project for an entire week.  They arrived on time, worked diligently, and were respectful.  They did an excellent job on the fence and gates and checked with me to make sure the work was to my satisfaction. When I had trouble with a gate latch a couple of weeks after the installation, one of the crew came out to fix it for me.
Stuart had installed a fence for one of my friends and I had seen the work so he came highly recommended.  I would recommend Aloha'aina and would use them again.

    Imua Landscaping Co Inc

Randy came out to give a free estimate and scheduled his crew to come the next day.  The crew arrived ahead of scheduled time and did an awesome professional job.  They also did a great job in cleaning up after they were finished.

One of my neighbors saw what they did for me and is planning to have them come out and do work at his house in a few weeks.

    Reliable Landscaping & Sprinklers
Mr. John Long, owner of Reliable Landscaping and Sprinklers, really impressed me with his professionalism and honesty.  He could have told us that we needed to totally re-design the Japanese garden, if he wanted to make big profit.  Instead, he told me that I should keep the design intact because it was a good design, which looked good and allowed for efficient water flow.  He recommended that we remove the small gravel and reuse it to save money.  He removed all of the small gravel and placed thick weed barrier and replaced the small gravel and added larger gravel to keep the gravel in place.  He recommended that we remove the mondo grass, which was being overrun by our lawn grass.  In its place, he added the large gravel and placed smooth river rock to form an appearance of river running through the Japanese garden.  He got rid of 2 plants which had thorny branches and replaced with more appropriated Japanese. plants.  He also cut down and reshaped our large bush, which was getting out of control.  The improvements made to the front garden is fantastic.  It looks great and  it will certainly cut down on weekly maintenance.  Mr. Long aslo recommended that we remove the ground cover on back yard slope which has been a problem due to weed growing out of control.  He replaced it with grass plugs to make it a grassy slope, which would eliminate the need to pull weeds every week.  He also check and fixed all sprinkler heads that had been damaged.  He was going to only fix the head but ended up digging to find the sprinklers and leaking pipe.  He was able to fix them without increasing the cost of his proposal.  We were really impressed that he returned the lawn to the original condition despite all of the digging.  His workers were polite and worked hard to complete the project in 3 days.  Mr. Long came back to fix sprinkler piping which was not part of the proposal without asking for increase in the proposed amount.  I highly recommend him to anyone that wants a "reliable" and honest landscaper.

    MonkeyMan Tree Care
We contacted Monkey Man Tree Care to have several evergreens and palm trees trimmed. Deriek responded the same day and we received the service within a week. Deriek and his crew are extremely professional and hard working. They accomplished what they said they would do and more. They basically ended up cleaning up our entire back yard (it needed it!). We haven't had this property long, and Deriek provided a much needed education on the trees and plants that we have. His price was more than reasonable and the service was exceptional. I highly recommend Monkey Man Tree Care and will be telling all of my friends to use them!

    Lawntastic
The experience was a nightmare. I gave them half down, and they put up part of the fence, and when we went to check, they had put up a vinyl fence. It wasn't put up right, so if you pushed up against the fence, the slots would fall out, and my concern about that, was that my property is elevated. If my granddaughter pushed up against that, and fell, the neighbor's property is a 10 foot drop, and that would be straight on concrete. I tried to tell him about that, and he stopped answering our phone calls, and we asked him to call us back, and he wouldn't call us back, we couldn't get in touch with him. I had to go on to Yelp and put a bad review, and the next thing I know, I was taking threat messages from him, telling me to take off the review or he would come and do damage to the property. I had to call the police, and file a PRO, and it turned into a huge nightmare. Right now, I am doing renovations on the house, and it is difficult finding honest contractors. He did partial and never came back to complete it. They were supposed to repair the fence on one side of the property. They came the next day, and took down the fence on the other side, that they were not supposed to touch, and they never came back to replace that fence. They never even reimbursed me for it, and I ended up hiring another company, that messed up the job also, and now we have another company doing it.  The price would have been fair, had he done the job right.

    Hawaii Skylights & Solar Fans
I am very basic about what I want when it comes to hiring people to do home improvements:
    1. Respond to my calls (either tell me you a-can do the work, b-can't do the work, c-can do teh work but not right now because you are booked until XYZ time --- but TELL ME SOMETHING; I mean, isn't that BASIC GOOD BUSINESS?)
    2. Give me a detailed estimate that shows me EXACTLY what the break-down of charges are: materials, labor, tax, service call charges, etc. DO NOT give me a vague estimate that later tacks on mysterious charges because "the job ened up being more difficult than expected" ---- ok, then tell me how/why and how you arrived at those extra charges.
    3. SHOW UP WHEN YOU SAY YOU WILL. I work long hours. My spouse works long hours. We have kids. So when we re
arrange our schedules to be at home for work to be done it is VERY IRRITATING when the vendor doesn't show up on time or at all. That is enough to motivate me to go out of my way just to create an Angie's List profile for that business and give them a horrible rating. You waste my time, then I will make a point to warn others. I certainly don't waste time PAYING for services rendered. I expect the job to be done as agreed upon.
    4. Quality work. This one speaks for it self. I expect to get what I am paying for.
    5. Do not leave the work space a mess. Again, self-explanatory. Take any garbage with you --- DO NOT top-off my personal garabage containers. That sticks ME with going to the dump until after next garbage pick-up day.
    Those are my basic expectations.
To sum up Hawaii Skylights and Solar Fans performance: they met all expectations.  Very professional, clear detailed estimates (that didn't change for vague reasons), work done on time and as expected, great quality. And we love the effects of the solar lights. What more can I add? Thanks Ken!

    Hawaiian Turfgrass, Inc
    Originally we thought we were offered a very good deal and discount because we were a church/preschool; however, the contract stated the following: and quot;Hawaiian Turfgrass does not offer any warranty on El Toro Zoysia survival or grow in and is not liable for any reason to be responsible for or if any problems arise due to grass not growing, poor drainage, nutgrass/weeds, insect, bacterial, or fungus, not watering enough, wind affecting water distribution, bad maintenance practices, or too much sun.and quot;
One week after installation, we saw a section of sod was totally brown. We contacted Hawaiian Turfgrass who came out and replaced the brown grass and readjusted the sprinkler system. As of 09/02/2013 we still see sections of the grass, even though watered, doesn't appear to be growing. Additionally we asked on numerous occasions for a formal diagram of the newly installed sprinkler system. We have yet to receive a response.
Additionally we have several pieces of the sod contain nutgrass/weeds which we had to treat separately. As noted above, this contractor includes in his contract that he is not responsible for any of the installed sod that contains nutgrass.
Needless to say, we are disappointed in the lack of follow up. While we greatly appreciated a discount because we are a church, we believe the overall quality of service did not live up to expectation.

    *** UPDATE as of 130910***
Owner Sean contacted me and explained he'd been off island and was vey apologetic that my emails
went unanswered. He immediately set up an appointment to come out and inspect our property on 9/9/2013. Immediate changes where made to our sprinkler systems to address the dry sod issue. He will provide the requested sprinkler system layout within a week and return on 9/14/2013 to see how the corrective measures are working. It's very evident Sean desires customer satisfaction and is eager to resolve all of our concerns. I am confident he will.
