Moving reviews in Kapolei

A 1940's baby grand needed to be moved to our daughter's house about 30 minutes from our house. The movers wee set to come in the evening. Around 1 pm they found out our piano could be moved early and they called to see if it would work for both of us. This delighted my daughter because the children would be able to eat and do homework without interruption. The movers were very careful to put covering down over my tile floor. They also took care to dismantle and wrap the legs and piano parts. They were very careful with the body of the piano so that nothing shifted in the move. After arriving at my daughter's, the same care was giving to setting up the piano as taking it down. They even provided rubber cups for the legs so that the wood floor would not be damaged. As they checked over the piano they noticed a couple of places where the paint had been nicked in house cleaning and repaired the nicks with a black marker. This company and their employees went beyond my expectations and I would highly recommend them.

    Cardinal Moving Systems
    Moving systems complaint
    Order No.: 82503
Let me start by saying this
is the first experience with an  out of
state moving company. My wife and I relocated to Hawaii for work from Georgia.
Once we decided to make this life changing move I negotiated with my company
for the expenses for the move. I contacted Cardinal Moving Systems for a quote
for the house hold goods, motorcycles and vehicle. Frank Rivera was assigned as our
Personal Relocation Consultant. I sent Frank a excel spread sheet with the
house hold inventory and he finalized the quote. I also requested a quote to
include our 2 Harley Davidson motorcycles and H3 Hummer. Once I had all this
information I went to my employer with this quote and they agreed to the amount
for my relocation package. Total for the move house hold goods and motorcycles
$9,600. (after the disaster below the total went up to $17,250 not including
the vehicle). The only piece of this move that was no surprise was the vehicle,
but they still broker this out too.
Our move was scheduled for February 22, 2013.
Frank had quoted me $800 for 2 crates to ship the motorcycles in and assured me
that they would show up an my house and hand build the crates to custom fit
each motorcycle. When the crew arrived they had no intention of building any
crates on site and strapped each motorcycle to the side of the moving truck and
stated that they traveled about 150 miles to a warehouse where they would be crated.
I was asked to ride each bike into the truck at which time they were padded and
strapped to the side of the trailer. I made sure they padded each bike hoping they
would not be damaged. At that time I learned Cardinal Moving System is only a
broker, they subcontract everything out to whoever is the lowest bidder it
The locally hired crew was unsupervised
(because the supervisor was on his cell phone all day) and loaded the truck
which took form 8 AM until 8 PM. Once the truck loading was complete the
supervisor Sam, that had been on the phone all day while I was asked to label
and document all of the boxes, came into the house with a bill double the original
quote. He stated that we had double the cubic feet from what the quote was. He
also handed me a bill for packing materials for $1,300 that they used
throughout the day. I refused to pay this and he stated that he had to pay his
crew, We finally agreed to $300. We were asked to make out all checks to "Sam".
I explained that our understanding was this was an all inclusive move and the
labor to load the truck was included in the cost of the move. We felt it was a
scam by the truck driver who was a subcontractor. In email correspondence with
the logistics team my wife relayed the events of the move but they were
unwilling to acknowledge the deception of the driver/foreman. The truck driver
claimed he told me before the packing started that it was over the quoted
amount but he is wrong. He didn't even remember all the basement inventory that
had to be loaded as he was so busy on the phone all day.
At this point we had no recourse because we
were closing on the house in 5 days and had to move, I called Frank and he just
kept saying it wasn't his fault and he finally dropped the price down from $10
a cubic foot to $8 a cubic foot.
Once our goods arrived in Hawaii the first
thing we noticed is that almost all of the boxes were collapsed because they
had gotten wet inside one of the many containers they had been transferred to
from GA to HI. There were multiple boxes damaged, king size bed covered in
black mold, the motorcycles were damaged because they were improperly secured
in the make shift crates they built (2 used pallets and scrap plywood from
other shipments). Both motorcycles fell inside the crates during shipping
because whoever strapped them down had no idea how to secure a motorcycle for
shipping. See attached claim form for inventory damage.
We documented all the damage and followed the
process to file a claim. Photos of the damage, weight of each item to follow
the 60 cents per pound guidelines of insurance coverage. The first response was
a settlement of $44.40, We followed the appeal guidelines providing additional
information as requested and gave them a fair settlement dollar amount of $1,013.40
which is 60 cents per pound of the items damaged/lost.  The damage to the HD Electraglide faring alone
was $888.96 but at .60 per pound it comes to $492. Our actual replacement cost
for our damaged/missing goods is over $4,000. After providing additional pictures
asked for and documentation, their final settlement offer removed previously
covered items, added one motorcycle, and was $491.40. They denied any coverage
whatsoever on the other damaged motorcycle, most of the damaged items were not
covered, and no coverage at all on the missing items (a laptop and DVD player
in a box clearly missing on the list). The reasons given were not legitimate
for denial and we did in fact follow their instructions for filing claims and
providing pictures. This does not even begin to cover the damage caused by
Cardinal Moving Systems to our property. At this point we are not offered any
further appeals on this claim and are forced to accept whatever they offer.
We accept we cannot begin to replace any of
our goods, but we should at least get the agreement amount to settle the
damage/loss claim of .60 cents per pound of all damaged/lost items claimed as
    stated in their agreement.
If you search the internet for moving
company's and cardinal comes up, run the other way. They are a unethical  company in my opinion with surprises around
every corner that cost you more than double what they quote. They will not take
care of your property and will not take responsibility for their actions. They
blame everyone except for themselves. Once your stuff leaves your position you
have no control over what happens to your property.
