    Kahala Urgent Care
But that's not what happened. I checked in right away with the help of a clerk who knew what she was doing. I waited only a short time in a waiting area that was a no-frills but-good-enough place. There was nothing to read, but there was a tv you couldn't hear. Didn't matter; I had brought a book, which I recommend. The room wasn't spotless but but was clean enough for the end of the day. I was seen first by a nurse whose credentials I couldn't figure out, then sent to a treatment room where I was told the and quot;providerand quot; would see me soon. I assumed this provider was a nurse practitioner or med student or resident or something, but I rather like them. I am an RN with 40 years' ER and teaching and US Army Nurse Corps experience, and we speak the same language.
.The provider examined my elbow and determined the white stuff spilling out of the wound to be fascia. She said the problem must be treated (the decision's being to treat or not-to-treat), and she wrote an rx for by-mouth antibiotics. She paid attention to interactions between some antibiotics and cardiac meds I am on. I wanted a culture and sensitivity because of my fear of MRSA and my thinking I got the laceration doing rather and quot;violentand quot; yard work. While she disagreed with the indication for a Cand S. she did order one, and t his reassured me. The wound was cleaned, the protruding fascia trimmed, and the wound dressed. No stutures were needed. My tetanus was current. A followup was set.
I took the antibiotics until only about 3 were left before I developed severe hives all over my upper arms, legs, and trunk, then I DC'd them myself. The good had already been done. I kept the followup appointment--just a dropin. (Culture: no growth.)
At this date, 6-3-2013, my outcome is perfect. I am satisfied, assured they were right in the diagnosis and treatment. I have no lingering questions. They never treated me as a nuisance nor an idiot. At no time did anyone not tell me where to go (and quot;Follow me; we are going down the hall to that second doorand quot;) leaving me to wander around in unfamiliar surroundings. In the past I have actually caught clinic staff other places imitating me when they had thought I had left their premises but returned to retrieve a sweater. Based upon the treatment by Kahala Ungent Care staff of me in person I suspect the staff at Kahala don't do that to patients.
I wish they would expand their hours. I would go to them for everything.
I understand Kahala Urgent Care will be opening a facility out here in Hawaii Kai, and I shall make application to work there.

    Kahala Urgent Care
We were sent to Kahala Urgent Care by a military clinic that could not accommodate our same-day appointment request. My son was sick and could not seem to shake a virus he had; his cough was deep and I was concerned he might be getting bronchitis. Since he had missed several days of school already and seemed to be getting worse, I wanted to have him seen. The office staff was nice and the physician we saw was thorough. She said he was definitely dealing with a virus and just needed time to shake it. Rest and fluids. The longest part of the appointment was leaving as it took some time to get the printouts and paperwork required. Overall a positive experience and we would go again if the military clinic could not see us.

    Tenabe, Dr. Brian K.
Dr. Tenabe is a great pediatrician! He has a friendly and reassuring manner, and he is very good at diagnosing the problem even when the patient is unable to communicate all of the problems succinctly.

    Cornerstone Pediatric
Overall, appointment went well and we were in and out fairly quickly on this visit. That is not always the case, it is not uncommon to wait 45 to 60 minutes for a healthcare provider.
