Drywall Repair reviews in Tucker

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I lived here through the gutting and reworking of my Master Bath, construction and outfitting of my Master Closet, the gutting and reworking of the Hall (Jims) Bath, the expansion of Jims Closet, Jims Coffee Closet, replacement of 7 Windows and demo, floor, wall, and door on Laundry/Utility Room. Jim is our room mate and master designer/ decorator of all the updates to our comfortable home When we, Mark and I, moved here the Master bath was a simple 6 X 9 - 3 piece. There was a 6 X 9 dressing area so we knocked out the wall and changed out the 3 piece for a corner soaker tub, a small corner shower and an over sized single vanity with storage pieces. The third 6 X 9 area was a small walk in closet. NOW : The small walk in closet became the prettiest shower I've ever had. Lovely linen like oversized ceremic tiles with small hexagon slate tiles on the ceiling and the floor, Most of one long wall is glass with no door and no sill at the entry. We installed some grab bars - I should say Florin installed the grab bars and did the shower construction and beautiful tiling. His attention to detail and making sure everything lined up perfectly keeps amazing me. There is a combo ceiling exhaust fan/heater and a single can light. We opted for a regular overhead shower and a hand held shower on a bar. The rest of the bath room came together perfectly. We have a new double vanity with a quartzite top, undermount sinks, single lever faucets, new mirrors. there is a smaller footprint but bigger interior soaker tub and all new reconfigured plumbing. The only hold up on the project was the additional plumbing, including upgrading cast iron to PVC, that needed to be done when we (I) changed the orientation of the tub and toilet. The only things we kept from our original bath were three wall light sconces and the almost new toilet. Dennis, Florin and the rest of the crew went out of their way making sure things were just right for me/us. MASTER CLOSET- Our fourth bedroom was a backup kid guest room and Marks closet dressing room from when he used to have to get dressed in the middle of the night. It was situated in between our Master Bdrm and Jims room. Florin knocked out the wall between the two closets, closed off the doorway and then partitioned off an addition to make a nice walk in closet for Jim and a super walk in closet connected by a brand new barn door type slider in the brand new doorway for me - and I got the double windows too. We have a combo of a couple furniture pieces and new built in shelves, drawers and hanging rods. JIMS BATHROOM - replaced tub & shower with a walk in shower with a floor to ceiling glass panel. Replaced the old vanity with a new large single sink vanity. Tiled with same Linen look ceramic tiles floor and walls to ceiling. Small slate hexagon tiles on shower floor. New mirror and light fixture. COFFEE CLOSET - the hall linen closet bumps up to shower water line so we had a water line run into the closet to hook into a coffee maker. Hot water for tea. Very handy. LAUNDRY/UTILITY/PANTRY - The original owner had made an opening between the Laundry room and the Family Room (our living room) and made a pass through with a bar top - there were some not very useful built in shelves so we had Florin tear it all out, close off the opening and install a bifold door. Then he replaced the black and white checked tile with some leftover tile from the bathrooms. We were able to combine some shelving and made more pantry space. And we don't have to look at it any more. Are we happy with our re-do - you bet! Do I recommend PHI - Dennis, Florin, Bennie, Danny, Ross, Tyler et all? You bet! Will we hire them again? You bet!

  • Terri and her crew were incredible! They were professional, always on-time, on budget, and finished ahead of schedule. Terri spent extra time making sure the paint color was exactly what I wanted and that the finished product was flawless!

  • Leo did a much better job than i had anticipated. The ceiling had been previously repaired due to a leak and the contractor did a terrible job. The ceiling is old and had the flower pattern. Leo redid and the flower pattern looks the same across the entire ceiling. He also did a great job on painting my townhouse downstairs and repairing and painting a wall in the bathroom. Leo completed the job ahead of schedule and charged a fair price.

  • Showed up on time. Very professional at their work and respectful of ours. They are intelligent and experienced. Full wall demo and rebuild on carpet and we did not even have to clean up where they were working.

  • Nice friendly reception on the phone. I was able to get an appointment on my day off which was great. Elijah as my fix-it guy. He was professional, friendly and pleasant. He went to get the supplies needed and came back to get right to work. He did an excellent job and I am very pleased with his work. I would feel very comfortable using Elijah and Doggone Handy again for future projects.

  • The work went really well. Rod (the owner) observed roof damage caused by hail and managed the entire matter of dealing with the insurance company. He met with the insurance adjuster in my absence and handled pretty much everything. He worked EXTENSIVELY with insurance to get everything paid for that the policy was SUPPOSED to pay for. When insurance left things off (repeatedly) from the claim, ROD called and got it handled. When insurance was slow to send checks, Rod waited on the checks and did not ask me to pay. I doubt I could have gotten this paid by the insurance company at all, or at least would have been paid far less. and honesty, I would not have known to ask about insurance to begin with. I was unaware of the hail damage-- very obvious when Rod showed me, but I would probably have simply hired a roofer and paid without thinking of insurance, had not the damage been brought to my attention.

Fact of the matter is that other people from companies NOT related to Rod had suggested repairing ONLY the soffits, claiming it was caused by squirrel damage, never suggesting the roof leaking was the cause. Had I listened to others, I would have potentially spent thousands to repair things when a leaking roof would have let the new work be spoiled.

Southern Specialty accessed the OVERALL situation, and advised what needed to be repaired to actually stop the leak and to facilitate a long-term solution, though they were willing to do repairs based on my selection and in my order of preference. No "hard-selling", no pressure.

They found leaks that I had not seen causing lots of damage, like leaking chimney caps which caused problems including significant damage to the ceiling of a closet where the water ran down. (Who inspects the ceiling of a dimly lit walk-in closet often?) Again, very real issues that needed to be addressed but had long gone unnoticed... Clearly the competition only wanted to do repairs that they could offer and make money off of. The competition also failed to notice the roof leaks were caused by hail damage and that this could be an insurance matter. That oversight alone could have cost me MANY thousands out-of-pocket... thankfully, Southern Specialty helped me get paid properly by the insurance which we had been paying for over the last 20 years. It was nice to get paid what we deserved by our insurance for a change!

All the work for insurance was handled on one bill, and the rest of the work was handled separately. Insurance work was paid for completely by insurance. My price (from Southern Specialty) was adjusted down in some cases when insurance short-paid. I was never asked to pay extra for areas where insurance was not willing to pay enough, as sometimes seems to happen (on insurance-covered issues) with other contractors.
In the middle of the heaviest work, I came by several times to see perhaps a dozen workers in motion around my house working on several projects simultaneously. All workers were respectful and courteous. If I had a question, workers stopped what they were doing, and came and answered my questions. When I said I wanted things done particular way, people just did what they were asked without issue. It was somewhat amazing... We had a LOT of work done and not once was anybody rude or difficult to deal with.

A few small issues came up after the work was done-- things like loose trim or a small area of a wall repair that needed a bit of additional work. (Underscore "small" issues.) Hardly surprising with this much work needing to be handled. Rod sent people back to handle the concerns with no hassles, and no cost, so he clearly stands behind his work as well.
I could not have hoped for a better experience. Good contractors are hard to find. Give Rod ad Southern Specialty an opportunity to quote your job before you agree to work with anybody else.

  • I thought Joe did a great job coming out and doing the estimate. He was  by far the most professional out of all of the quotes I'd gotten. He took photos and gave a detailed estimate down to the penny of what it would cost right within 30 minutes of seeing the job. He printed it out in his van and came back in to go over it with me. The painters arrived on time and were very nice. They fixed nail pops and other sheet rock damage. They even painted a small hallway and a half of another hallway for free because they had extra paint! I was shocked; it was very kind of them to do that. It saved me having to do it myself as I had planned.
As far as the work, it was for the most part good, but I started noticing things that they had missed. They missed nail pops and some of the sheet rock work was still needing some sanding. However, they promptly came back out and fixed those things. Since then I have noticed particles of paint and/or particles form the rollers all over the walls. I am painting my living room and I sanded the walls beforehand to get rid of those kinds of things before painting, and after painting , I didn't have any of that. My walls are smooth.  I don't know if they sanded beforehand like they said they would or if it happened during the painting. Either way, I don't think I should have had that on a professional job. I would most likely hire them again, but I would make sure they were doing all the steps and tag every little detail that I would expect to be done. I'm particular that way!

  • I called Mr. Green on Friday and described the problem.  He agreed to arrive at 9 AM the following Monday.  On Monday he called to confirm the appointment and arrived on time, actually a little early.  The repairs were made without incident and he did an outstanding job.  Mr. Green is very personable and he is a pleasure to work with.  He carefully described what he would do before he began, and the stippling on the patched area matches exactly with the remainder of the ceiling.   He stressed at the outset that the patch  would not be exactly the same color as the remaining ceiling because of the latter's age, but the difference is very slight and hardy noticeable, and as it is in a closet I plan to leave it as is.
Although this was a very small job, Mr. Green spent nearly 3.5 hours assuring the excellent results.  He also cleaned up thoroughly after he was finished.  Overall, I was impressed by his work and I would certainly call him in the future for any wallboard or plastering work that needed to be done.

  • Marvin is great. He was very responsive and flexible with scheduling. He ran into some unexpected problems and worked through them effortlessly. He had to stop prior to completing the vessel sink installation due to my missing some parts. He returned on a week night evening and finished up. I would absolutely recommend Marvin and would use him for any repairs in my home,

  • They did a very good job. They are very pleasant to work with. Dan doesn't say much, but he does a very good job. All the subcontractors did an excellent job. They are coming back out here tomorrow to put in a new sink for us. Their price was very competitive and they were all dead on time.
