Gas Log Specialties by TD Anderson
The company returned my phone call promptly and set up a time within 2 days to clean my chimney. The gentlemen were professional and very courteous. They explained my chimney was only moderately dirty and didn't need to be done right now. They quickly (and cleanly) swept it when requested. I would certainly hire this group again.

    TLC Handyman Services
Terrible. I hired Tim Collins, aka TLC Handyman services, to do work on my back porch and master bath. I needed skylights removed and the roof over my back porch repaired. I contacted Mr.Collins one week after completion because I saw water leaking in my bathroom. Mr. Collins "said" he came out, (while I was at work) sprayed my roof with the hose and found no leaks so most likely "the shingles just hadn't sealed yet". Rained a couple more times, I would hear water dripping from the sealing into my bathtub. Sent Mr.Collins pictures and told him I thought it was still leaking. He said he would see if he could get the roofers to come check it out. A month goes by, nothing from Mr.Collins. Now comes October and we have to evacuate due to hurricane Matthew. I left it alone for a while just out of consideration for Mr.Collins and knowing with the damage around Savannah he was probably pretty busy. Parts of Savannah had some pretty bad damage but my neighborhood was virtually untouched. Not so much as even a tree limb in my yard when we returned home. Towards the end of November I texted Mr.Collins and reminded him that I was still waiting. What happened next blew me away & astounded me. When I contacted Mr. Collins he acted as if he didn't know what I was talking about and blamed the hurricane. He said, "the hurricane probably blew a few shingles off." I told him no, I didn't think that was the problem because the problem was there before the hurricane. He then tells me he wished he had known about it prior so that he could have the roofers cover it under warranty. (??!??) I reminded him that I contacted him 1 week after completion. I reminded him of the photos I sent. He completely ignored me saying that part and went into a tangent about the hurricane blowing the roof off of every house in Savannah and how now I'm trying to blame him for the damage to my home. (Wow!) He proceeded to tell me "what I needed to do was file with my insurance company and hire someone to fix it". This man is a crook. Never again will I support a small business when it comes to my biggest investment; my home. Especially not this man. You hear of horror stories but I guess you never really think that there are enough terrible people in this world that you will have a personal experience. The photos I posted are the same photos I sent to Mr.Collins. I don't believe he ever came back out to look at the terrible job he did. He got his money and didn't care about the quality of the job. My neighbor had some work done by Mr.Collins as well, when I was telling him of my experience he told me that he wished he had known I hired Mr.Collins because he had to hire someone to redo the work that Mr.Collins did for him, too. Coincidence? I think not..

    Pro Renovations Ltd Co
I was beyond happy with the result! I was having trouble making decisions about placement and tiling so Simon met with me to help pick out tile, and when Matthew arrived to start on the tile work he taped off multiple options and sent pictures to me so I could see what it would look like before they started. The job was done quickly and all dust and debris was completely cleaned up.

    Chandlers Tree Surgeon
A load was delivered and stacked far in excess of anticipate amount. Was very pleased with the service, amount and cost. Some of the wood could have been sized and/or split better to use in the fireplace.

    Distinctive Granite And Marble
Distinctive Granite and Marble was completely unprofessional. The person who did the template measurements literally screwed up every measurement. There were uneven overhangs on several countertops, some countertops had NO overhang. I had to have the countertops moved forward and have back splashes installed, where no backsplash was called for, just to hide the gaps. There were two locations where the countertops were not deep enough to fit the faucets behind the sinks. One location, I had to have my contractor rip out a window and place a "picture frame" window with no sill, in order to squeeze the faucet in because Distinctive refused to redo the countertop, unless I paid for it all again. My house was a custom build house and has 3" windowsills and mind you, ALL windows were in place before the templates were taken. They knew exactly which sinks were being installed, which faucets were being used and still managed to mess up literally every top that had a sink in it. Actually, they messed up literally every piece that had to be installed in my house except for 1 fireplace surround. They did redo several tops that they messed up but even those were not all done correctly, but the worst was the kitchen. I have a massive island and they only gave 1/4" of overhang on the island and did a horrible job of cutting in the farm sink. The countertop on the side cabinet bar area had varying overhangs and a farm sink that was even worse than the island. The problem with the farm sinks is that they didn't place the sinks before doing the template!! Any simpleton would know that if the sink is pushed back, it needs to be moved into the proper place before you template to cut around it. And they claimed, months after the problems were pointed out, that placing farm sinks is not part of their job. Well, even if it's not, if you see a farm house sink sitting back rather than forward with the apron sticking out, when you come to template, wouldn't you then advise the owner or contractor that the sinks need to be placed properly? They claim the guy doing the template had been doing so for 28 years. So, he should have had experience with farm house sinks. When they came to put the tops in, there were large gaps all around the sides of the farm house sinks because they had to push the sinks back to fit into the countertop cut outs.  The prep kitchen countertops also had varying overhangs and did not allow for the prep sink to have a faucet placed in unless I wanted the faucet placed 1/8" -1/16" away from the sink opening but the faucet is industrial type so it is tall and would have rubbed against the window sill too. They refused to correct the worst of their problems. I had several meetings, weeks apart, that took 3 hours each to point out all the problems. First with the sales guy. Then no response. Next with the template guy. Several more weeks go by, no response. Then with the owner. I was so thankful the owner was coming because I thought once they sent the owner to see me he would see the issues and understand. I had typed a five page letter with the problems and detailed and photoed & showed measurements of all problems. At the meeting with the owner, he literally just started yelling at me and said, "why is it MY problem?" I said, "because under YOUR contract, you were to provide me with the template drawings and YOU were not to cut any stone until after I signed off on the measurements, which you never provided." That shut him up but he still refused to take responsibility or action to make satisfactory corrections (unless I paid for all new stone). I had to eventually hire another stone fabricator to come in and remove all the kitchen stone and redo those two rooms, and salvaging the other rooms the best we could to use what we could in those places. For example, the backsplashes in the guest bathrooms were not cut properly, I had to have the new fabricator remove and recut those. He had to find matching stone to do the shower surround. I even found a random hole had been drilled into our game room bar countertop and Distinctive had covered it with a towel to hide it. So my new fabricator had to find matching stone as best he could, to plug it - because I didn't want to deal with having to replace the stone AGAIN. And in the master bath they didn't cut the sink correctly, so they had covered it with cardboard, in an attempt to hide it - at least for awhile. When I moved the cardboard, I saw the undermount sink was cut so that all the edges were exposed. We had hired them to put tops in kitchen - island with farm sink, bar with farm sink and stove top surround; prep kitchen - desk, and prep sink countertop; master bath sink and shower surround; 4 bedroom baths - vanity tops and shower surrounds; 4 half baths - vanity tops; game room bar area - 3 large countertops; surrounds for 2 fireplaces. I requested to be present when the templates were supposed to be laid out. They called me to come and then had to reschedule to the next day because "they weren't done laying out the templates." When I went the next day, almost an hour drive from my house, there was NOTHING laid out on the stone and the kitchen & prep stone wasn't even available for me to see. So, I could only look and request generally, the placement of the templates on the stone. They promised they would call me back to see the kitchen stone before layout. I kept calling and after several weeks, the next thing you know, the guy says, we installed the kitchen stone yesterday. So, I never got to see it before they cut it. The whole process took them about a year and because I was having so much stone put in, their problem after problem, delayed my overall construction project for about 7 months. The sales guy was non responsive much of the time, once the contact was signed and at the 3rd meeting, when the owner was present, he actually lied and said that I had requested the overhangs to be cut the way they did them. I flat out asked him why he was lying, now that his boss was standing there. This company was probably the worst I have ever had to deal with in my life. The owner also owns AGM which is where we purchased the stone from and then Distinctive Granite & Marble is the fabrication arm of his companies. In the end I did not pay for the stone that was removed from the kitchen because I had to hire another fabricator to remove their stone and buy new stone and pay for that fabrication and installation. I had to get a lawyer and Distinctive was advised multiple times to come pick up the stone or it would be discarded. Distinctive ended up getting a lawyer too and trying to place a lien on my property. Their lawyer failed to properly file the documents and thus, the lien was never good. Beware of working with this company.

    Triangle Chimney Pros
They do not provide service to Savannah, Ga. The lady was very nice and gave me a number in Atlanta. She thinks they may be able to help. The Angie's list lady was also very nice and is sending me a list of some local people.

    Mike Kenny Roofing
Let me begin by saying that I found Mike Kenny on Angie's List, and chose him based simply on his reviews and ranking. Based on his work at my home, I don't think I would ever use anyone else BUT him, and would gladly recommend him to others.
My first call was about 10 months prior to the work I'm reviewing here. I needed help with a small leak around a plumbing vent stack. He arrived on time and inspected the problem area with me. I anticipated receiving a several-hundred-dollar estimate, which might include replacing some of the sheathing, shingles in the immediate area, and a new boot. Instead, he pointed out the age of the boot, the fact that it had dry-rotted where it met the vent pipe, and that that was the source of the leak. He recommended a simple, inexpensive fix...a stretchable silicone skirt to cover the gap between the vent pipe and the brittle boot.  He supplied two of these - one for each of my vent stacks, even though the other one wasn't leaking.  Total cost $20 for the parts.
That level of integrity deserves repeat business.
So when I needed to have the flashing and cricket at my chimney repaired, it was a no-brainer to call Mike again. He set an appointment for the next day, arrived on time, surveyed the problem area, and supplied an estimate, which was fair for the work I needed done.
The crew he sent to do the work arrived on time, were courteous, professional in every way, and it was obvious that they had years of experience. They were working with a chimney sitting a valley created by an addition on the house - a tough job to flash and seal properly.
The original cricket had been covered with shingles - a no-no according to his crewman, who proved it by showing me where water had gotten under it. He replaced this with rubberized mat roofing, and did the same in the valley area upstream from the chimney, the source of most of the leaks.  They replaced rusted galvanized flashing with aluminum and retrofitted shingles around the cricket and the matting they installed in the valley.  They worked quickly (3 hours +/-), and cleaned up the work  area when they were done.
It has rained heavily several times since the work was completed, and I have gone into the attic below the repaired area during those storms to look for moisture. Bone-dry.
Mike Kenny does great work, has good old-fashioned integrity and business sense. He is the only roofer I will use, and I gladly recommend him to homeowners in the Savannah / Hilton Head area.

The crew did a great job.  They showed up on time.  Kept everything clean.  Most importantly, they took the time to communicate and do the job correctly.  John was easy to work with offering suggestions and solutions.  We love the result!

    Chandlers Tree Surgeon
Nice job, as always.  We've used Erwin Chandler and his company for years.  He was in the April/May 2013 edition of "South" magazine...did not know we had been using a "famous" person!  The quality of work is very good, prices are reasonable and they clean up the debris afterward. In the past, he has removed as many as three trees but today we just needed some limbs cut.

    Roof Crafters
Came right away to install proper chimney cap to prevent leaks when it rained. Then scheduled the new roof about a week later. The crew of 6 came on time at 0730 and ripped off the old roof and replaced it. They added two vents to properly vent attic. Then they cleaned up all around the house, porches and decks. They were hard workers, did a professional job at a competitive price and were fastidious about cleaning up. Highly satisfactory results.
