Hvac Repair reviews in Saint Simons Island

  • Wonderful! Our air conditioning unit was under water from Hurricane Irma. The A/C guys showed up the day after the water subsided and looked over the unit and realized it would need replacement. One day later we had the proposal with various options to choose from. We had the unit relaced and all work completed within 1 week of the hurricane! Great work, professional, friendly, courteous efficient and affordable.

  • Rick "Ricky" Freeman is great to work with... I texted him on Sunday evening and he was here on Monday at 10am. He got my AC working in a very short time. An hour after he left the thermostat turns off. Apparently the AC blew a fuse on the furnace and shut everything off. I called him again and he was back at the house within an hour. Ricky diagnosed the problem which wasn't easy since furnace is in the attic and there is no light and no room to work (on your back or side in must areas). After replacing the fuse Ricky went out of his way repairing a hole in air return duct that had been there for years, cleaning drip pan, and moving shutoff value out of the way, as well as other things. He spent an 1 1/2 working and when done he left shaking my hand with a smile and saying, "No Charge" for this trip. I argued briefly with him telling him the fuse blowing had nothing to do with original service call, but he just said no problem, still No Charge. This kind of service is what makes great entrepreneurs, not because he didn't charge me for the second service I would have gladly paid the same as with the first service call, but rather his work ethic and caring about his craft! I would highly recommend Rick Freeman for any HVAC repairs and replacements. RP

  • Corbitt thankfully answered their phone an hour after closing when I called from a motel because my unit died. They quoted me a reasonable price and installed it the next morning. They were finished by 11 a. m. The work was so clean, I couldn't even tell they had been there except that I had a brand new unit and updated thermostat. I was so pleased with the results.

  • contracted service was performed.  However, a list of additional recommended and required work was also provided.  List included leaking evaporator coil on one of 3 units in my home. A second unit required added coolant gas which was installed.

leaking unit had coolant gas added.  A second service visit was scheduled to perform a leak test on this unit.

filter replacement was charged @ ~ $5.00 per filter for a 1.50 filter. Filters were provided in previous years service at no charge included in service contract.

Estimate was provided for evaporator coil replacement.

Due to to high price I hired a second firm for estimate.  2nd estimate was 40% less for same work scope.  Leaking coil was not tested by 2nd contractor due to obvious leak deposits on the coil, deposits that were visible when the coolant gas was added, I.e. The gas addition should not have been performed with the obvious leaks.

unit that was "topped off" with coolant gas tripped off after Islan Air departed from initial service call.  2nd contractor determined the trip issue was over filling the unit with coolant gas.  Excess coolant had to be bled out to a gas waste tank.  Coolant I paid for was drained to a licensed waste container.

hourly rate for  service technician for second contractor was $20.00 / hr. Less than Island Air with far better service and all 3 units are now operating like new.

Use of charge card for payment requires $20.00 service fee for amounts > $500.

Renewal annual maintenance contract was offered at a substantial increase in price. Service contract was not renewed with Island Air, Inc due to cost increase and poor service

I would not recommend island Air Inc for A/C service in te St Simons Island, GA area.

  • Moved in to a new house(built in 06')  late summer 2007, as the first owner/resident. Next spring my ac wasn't cooling the house(could only maintain about 85) and called the installers. They came by and replaced the interior coils, under warranty. The very next spring, ac wasn't cooling the house. Called them again, and they came out and serviced the ac, stating that they had fixed a "minor leak", topped off the coolant and everything would be fine. This exact scenario played out for 2 more years, each spring when I started using the ac it wouldn't be able to cool the house less than low 80's, and resulted in my electric bill tripling for that month. The service guy would tell me I had a minor leak, that they fixed it and topped off the coolant, and it would be fine. On the third spring of hearing this(4th year in a row of service visits, 2011) excuse, I questioned the service rep, as he only went to the outside unit and was done in 10 minutes. At that time, he admitted to me that they had only topped off the coolant. His explanation was that "I lived too close to the water treatment plant and there were chemicals in the air that were prematurely ruining the ac's in the area"?!   I kid you not. He told me this with a completely serious face. There were several homes near mine, built by the same developer with Buchan-installed HVAC units; two of my neighbors that I questioned about their ac's stated that they had several problems and weren't satisfied with the service by Buchan. On one of the service visits, the guy even brought up one neighbor(a very nice lady, that I had many conversations with) stating that she showed up at their office very upset about her ongoing problems, and he thought she might be " a little mentally unbalanced".  The service technicians' dishonesty about the work being done, what was actually needed and dragging it out so long, resulted in the warranty lapsing. I could have pursued a warranty remedy with the manufacturer, given the circumstances of my service calls, but it looked like it would be a long, drawn out process and frankly, I didn't want anyone from Buchans ever coming into my house again.  I still need another unit, but have another HVAC company on St. Simons come by early every spring and top off the coolant.

  • The installation took 5 days and everyone working on the job was professional and very knowledgable. Willie supervised the installation and checked to make sure everything was working before leaving late Friday. Pads were placed on floors and dirt was vacuumed.
Our first experience with Island Air was on 4th of July. They arrived that day quickly and fixed the problem and were reasonable in the charge even with a holiday. Has been one of the most professional companies that we have worked with since coming to the Island.

  • Scheduling the service call was amazing. Renee was extremely pleasant on the phone and had someone to my house within 3 hours on the same day even though it wasn't an emergency! I was delighted. The 2 men that showed up were professional and very respectful; they listened to my concerns and promptly began their investigation. Within 20 minutes they reassured me that the electrical current was measuring normal and diagnosed the problems with my fixtures as being switch related. They also suggested I buy 130 volt lightbulbs for my can lights so that my 65 watt bulbs would last longer. I couldn't be happier with the service or knowledge of the technicians. They finished promptly and payment was easy. I will definitely use this company again for any electrical, duct or HVAC issues.

  • I had to call a technician  out on a  Sat morning to repair my heat, I thought because it was so early when i called i would have to wait for hours, but the technician explained to me that he was already out on a call and should be to me in about an hour. He arrived and found the problem and had to parts on his truck to repair and I was up and running again within an hour! Great service and was not charged an arm and a leg for repairs. I would recommend them to anyone.

  • The job was performed in a timely and professional manner. Scott Corbitt arrived at my home promptly and after evaluating my old system gave me several options to consider for repair or replacement and answered my questions with clear, precise, and intelligent answers. After doing due research about the various options given to me by other vendors, I decided to use Corbitt heating and air for the replacenent of my air handler and undersized outdoor inefficient compressor. Pricing was good and workmanship was excellent. I would recommend them to my friends.
