The Midwife Group and Birth Center
I cannot say enough amazing things about The Midwife Group Women's Health & Birth Center...which is why this review is so long! As a first-time mom, I am especially grateful for their highly personalized and education-focused approach to women's health and birth as well as their entire staff who incredibly caring and responsive. I first became a patient when I scheduled a pre-conception appointment. I was incredibly impressed with Rita Chesney's attention to detail in reviewing my medical history and testing as well as education to make sure that my husband and I were starting our pregnancy journey on the right foot. From the first moment I found out I was pregnant, I felt incredibly supported and had a valuable resource for all of my pregnancy-related questions (especially in Melissa Courtney who I saw many times very early in my pregnancy). The Parents Plus Program (monthly group classes with birthing persons of the same gestational age) gave my husband and I all of the tools we needed to feel comfortable and confident approaching birth as well as the early days of parenting. The classes were taught by several different midwives as well as a lactation consultant (Latch Breastfeeding Support), but my favorite were with Sherry Hartenbower who is an incredibly warm, patient, thoughtful, and special person and midwife. My birth experience (attended by Stephanie Curtis and Heidi Longenberger) was truly magical (more than I ever expected!) and my daughter and I received exceptional care in the hours after birth. A great benefit of birthing at The Midwife Group Women's Health & Birth Center is the ability to spend your first night at home which I really appreciated after such an exhausting (but amazing!) experience. I thought it would be scary to go home so shortly after birth but their discharge procedures are so thorough and hands-on that my husband and I left with no unanswered questions and feeling incredibly confident. The postpartum care has been just like everything else...amazing! I highly recommend The Midwife Group Women's Health & Birth Center and wish I could give them an A+++ rating!

The staff is exceptional. The availability was as good as it could be. The effectiveness of treatment turned out well.

    Memorial University Medical Center
I went to the Emergency Room at Memorial Hospital when I started getting sharp, burning pains on the left side of my chest. I feared the worst. When I got to the hospital (which happened to be the closest to my home), the staff handled my case very smoothly and competently. They immediately took my vitals and ran a gamut of tests to figure out what was wrong (EKG, x-rays, etc.). They eventually deduced that I had inflammation, and recommended bedrest for a couple days. Throughout my 4 hours at the hospital, I always felt that I was in very capable hands. The doctors and technicians were calm and definitely seemed in control (of course, they were used to seeing cases like mine--and much worse!--every single day). I commend the staff there and wouldn't hesitate to go back if needed.

    Memorial Hospital
As a recent open heart surgery patient, my husband awoke with obvious problems with his memory and speech leading me to believe he had suffered a stroke. I drove him to the ER and explained to the desk clerk upon arrival. We were immediately placed in an exam room and saw a doctor. CT's were ordered and labs taken. We received excellent care from start to finish. We were given copies of all tests run to follow up with his doctors in Macon.

I think the level of care you get is worth it. We live about 45 min away and its worth the drive. They offer a wide variety of services too. I would give them an A minus overall because its good but not perfect and I would absolutely use them again.

They have a machine called the Devinci that guides the surgeon to aid the doctors and they did a wonderful job on my husband who had lung cancer.

The Midwife Group and Birth Center
I don't know where to begin! Our experience having our first baby at the Birth Center was absolutely amazing. From the minute I found out I was pregnant to now with their wonderful follow-up care, this practice has gone above and beyond my expectations in so many ways. Not only did the midwives provide excellent medical care throughout my pregnancy, they also provided so much education that I feel a traditional OBGYN would not have, all in a home-away-from-home environment with compassionate, family-centered care. My son was born 10 days after his due date, but the midwives were so supportive, patient, resourceful and thorough in their care. I feel certain that I would've been induced had I gone the traditional OB route. My pregnancy was very smooth, my labor and delivery went smoothly and quickly, and I was able to deliver our completely healthy baby boy in a safe, calm environment, not being micromanaged by medical staff, just the way my husband and I had envisioned it. I would recommend the Midwife Group and Birth Center to absolutely anyone who asked, and I plan to stick with them for future well care and future babies!

The classes, check-ups and birthing process were all very good. However, your first 12 hours post-delivery are included in the price you pay before delivery, and you're billed per hour for anything beyond 12 hours. My wife and I left the Birth Center 12 hours and 7 mins after our son was delivered (would have been an hour earlier, if not for having to wait for the midwife to discharge us) and we were billed for another full hour... over $200. Pretty ridiculous. Wrote them a letter disputing the charge, still have not heard anything from them.

Great staff and doctors. This was the second delivery for me and my family here. They have gotten even better than before. Everything went well and we were treated very well during our stay.
