Does a Painting Estimate Really Matter?

    Residential Improvement Doctor, LLC
Michael Walker and his crew showed up early every day he worked for me. The do great work and clean up after themselves. The handrail on my front porch was loose and dangerous. They replaced the post which had rotted and reattached several smaller posts. They also replaced my bottom step which was also rotten. They then painted my entire front porch and handrails. Came back the next day because it rained hard overnight and applied another coat of paint to everything. It looks beautiful. I was so happy I asked them to look at my back steps and back deck which had several rotting boards. They scheduled me promptly and within a week they were back. They replaced several boards in my deck and railing, painted it and painted my back steps and handrails. Again, a beautiful job. Mr. Walker was here every day, either working with his crew or making sure everything was done right. I would highly recommend Residential Improvement Doctor.

Called to have two bedrooms, master bath and wood & steel pergola painted. Original scheduled start date was to be two-three week from call. Chris called the next day and was able to start within the week due to a cancellation or delay in another job. I have him the paint samples and he handled the rest. He and his crew arrived in time, stayed later to complete the job and came back to check on the pergola to touch up for any spots that had leached through (pressure treated wood). It was nice to have someone take pride in their work, down to the small details.

Phenomenally. My home looks like new. In addition to just painting my house, I took the opportunity, with Alex's help, to replace some of the dry-rotted Louisiana Hardy board on my house, replace my chimney cap, replace my screen porch, replace my shutters, lighting sconces and repair windows in the garage. I had dry-rotted, water damage window frames in the garage which he removed and dry-walled over one, and repaired the other. Saving me hundreds in the process of replacing them. His crew was professional, and never stopped working. He quoted the job being complete in 2 weeks and he was. During the paint job, he offered, and I took advantage of re-screening my entire 50 foot back porch and all the wood trim associated with it. Also, he took the time to let me know my chimney cap was completely rusted out causing additional water damage. He replaced it and now it no longer rains into my chimney. I could not be happier with the level of service, professionalism and finally, the way the job turned out. I have already recommended Alex to friends who plan on using him and I plan on using him in the future for some interior paint jobs I'd like done. Thanks Alex!

Jody and his team did a great job! He was very professional, knowledgeable, and honest, taking care to explain what was being done and answering all questions. Great care was taken in the details and the worksite was left clean and organized at the end of every workday. We are very pleased with his work and have no hesitation in hiring him again when needed. It was a pleasure dealing with him throughout the entire process.

Jack of all trades handyman sevices
First of all, when he came to our house to give an estimate and was getting ready to leave after we agreed on work and cost, he asked for gas money. That should have been by first clue, but I know sometimes things happen, so I complied. The next day (Monday) he was to come and get an up front partial payment for services to get started on Tuesday. Well, no one ever came out on Tuesday. So Wednesday I texted him and messaged him on his Facebook business page to find out what happened and got no response. Texted again on Thursday and 3 hours later he responded with some off the wall excuse. He eventually came to the house on Thursday to pressure wash, but it was a horrible job. There was still several areas that looked like they had not been touched at all. I then texted him on Friday at 9:20 a.m. to see what the plan was for completing the job and letting him know the pressure washing had not been done properly . (He had told me the whole job would be completed by Thursday when he came to give estimate) No response. Texted and messaged him on Facebook again several times. No response. At 6:44 pm, after leaving a bad review on his facebook reviews, he contacted me back via text with more excuses. I told him to just return the excess portion of the deposit and to forget about the work. No response. Finally at 8 p.m. I texted to advise I would pursue legal action, to which he responded at 8:14 p.m. He was horrible. He said we were threatening him, etc. Yes, we threatened legal action. He refused to bring the money to my house, so I told him he could take it to my attorneys office on Monday morning. Obviously, he never did this, and never responded to my message as to status of the payment. After reviewing further on his facebook reviews, this is not the first time he has done this. Also, he chooses to delete all negative reviews. Very unprofessional and dishonest.

I spoke with Chris, had a very reasonable estimate within a few days and work was started soon after. Crew arrived on time, friendly and professional. All furniture moving was handled by crew. Areas were kept clean and paint looks great. Chris answered any questions I had even though most were not about the work being performed (various issues around house). I would recommend and hire again for sure.

You WILL NOT find better craftsmen to work on your house and their price was lower than 3 other bids. This is the third time they've done work. Simply outstanding. Did carpentry work on the eaves, repaired ceiling drywall where wife put knee through from attic, repaired corner taped joints in 20' ceiling. Repaired drywall ceiling in garage that had to be removed to access plumbing for upstairs bathroom. All the work is PERFECT! I'll never use anyone else.

    Horton Remodeling
First:  The owner of Horton Remodeling, John, is incredibly responsive.  I found this to be even more so if you contact him via e-mail.  That's not to say he doesn't return calls, but he's on top of his e-mail.  I never had to wait more than a couple of hours for a response (most of the time it was less than this).  By being on top of customer communications, he made our family feel like a valuable customer.

Second:  Spring is the remodeling season.  When we were trying to figure out a date to have the doors refinished, Horton was in high demand and fairly well-booked.  We were looking at one or two weeks out.  At the time, I had taken a week off work to be with my kids during their spring break and I indicated that I would really prefer not to have to take more time off to be home for his crew to do the work.  In order to accommodate my request, John asked one of his carpenters (a great fellow named Hank) if he wouldn't mind coming by our house after he got off work each day to work on the doors for an hour or so.  Hank lives fairly close to us and was happy to oblige.  By being so flexible and willing to work around my schedule, Horton Remodeling AGAIN made us feel like a valuable customer.

Third:  Once the finishing was completed by Hank, John came by one evening and adjusted our hinges.  The doors closed just fine for a day or so, but then one of them started dragging again (these are large, solid wooden doors with a semi-circular top held in place by hinges that only go up about 2/3 of the side - so it's inevitable that gravity will have an effect).  I contacted John to let him know and I think he was back out the next day or the day after that and got things set straight again.  That was almost two weeks ago and the doors close like butter!  Nice and smooth.

Fourth:  For the quality of service, work and convenience, the cost of the service was incredibly reasonable.  A couple of years ago I got a quote from another service and they quoted more than I paid for Horton... per door!  So, I ended up waiting until I was in a place to spend that sort of money and come to my surprise, I had money left over (that immediately went toward other projects around the house).

If I *ever* need any sort of carpentry or remodeling work done, I will not hesitate to call these folks.  Just keep in mind that the work we had done was pretty small-scale, and they do quite a bit of large-scale work, so the scheduling bonus made available to us may vary from job to job.  I just wish I could post a picture of their finished work!

    Paruso Painting & Remodeling
Mr. Paruso reacted strongly to my intentions of getting other estimates.  He refused to meet with me until we had gotten some other quotes.  My view is that he did not want to bid the work but instead was relying on his reputation.  Told him I was not looking for lowest price but instead best value.  He said to call him after I had gotten other quotes.  I never did because I found an excellent company that actually wanted to earn my business.

Alex & Bros Painting & Renovations
Alex started when he said he would.  The job took exactly as long as he said it would.
    Crew was considerate and professional.
Quality was superb.  Everything was clean and covered.  Made our place look like a new home.
They did a bit extra to make us happy.  Honored every request.  Even fixed a light fixture that was out of adjustment.
Will use them soon for my exterior job.
    Recommend with high confidence.
