  • I was scheduled for appt. at 9:am and was seen about 10:35...was not very happy, it his office staff informed me that he had an emergency to handle, and then I felt as though he was trying to make up for lost time......not too much time spent with my problem.

  • Our family had been with the University Medical Associates for over 30 years seeing a wonderful doctor. About 3 years ago the practice lost several of it's doctors and we had to choose a new one in the group or leave the group. I chose Dr. West. Since my husband is a diabetic on a pump, he was told he had to see one of the other doctors. That doctor left the group last year and my husband then started seeing Dr. West. In the last three years we have had several problems with University Medical Associates. The doctor that took over the diabetic pump patients did not listen and made serious errors in his care. These errors resulted in him undergoing several tests and invasive procedures that otherwise would not have been needed. After that doctor left the group, my husband was being seen by Dr. West. My husband had an intestinal obstruction a year ago and I took him to Doctor's Hospital. Only Dr. McElroy sees patients at Doctor's Hospital and we were OK with that. Problem is no doctor from University Medical Associates came to see my husband after he was admitted until Monday morning. He was admitted late Saturday night. The floor nurses and I were managing his care the entire time once the ER admitted him. When my husband was in a car wreck this year and suffered several injuries I called to make a follow up appointment with Dr. West once my husband was released from the hospital ER. That is when we were told that their policy is to have you pay for any follow up visits out of pocket at the time of the visit because he had been in a car wreck. We made sure they understood that the car insurance was NOT involved as we did not have medical coverage on our auto policy since we did not need it with three very good health insurance plans. Up until then, they had always filed our insurance and since we have three insurances, we usually have no balance to pay. We have never been a patient that did not pay their bill on time if we had a balance. We offered to bring proof that our health insurance was paying 100% of the bills associated with my husband's injuries from the wreck but that did not matter. We asked for a refill of a medication he was on prior to the wreck and they would not even approve that without seeing him. We ended up using other doctors we knew to have my husband's medical needs met because of this stupid policy! They have no problem filing your visit charges with your insurance if you come in for any other reason but they want their money up front if you happen to be in an accident. This was NOT going under a car insurance medical benefit. It was going under our normal health insurance. I would not have had a problem if they wanted payment up front if it was going through an auto insurance policy as they are notorious for not paying promptly but that was not the case. Though Dr. West has provided good care in our exams, we will not be returning to this practice. When my loved one is seriously ill or hurt, I expect our doctor (or one of his partners) to be caring for them without the surprise of and quot;you have to pay up front this timeand quot;. If they can file for a visit that involves an exam, labs and x-rays any other time, they should be willing to file the claim after a car wreck. There is absolutely NO excuse to want payment up front when they don't require it for all visits. We even went to a previously (before car wreck) appointment and talked with Dr. West about this policy but it was like talking to a brick wall. Their reason was that insurance claims take up to six weeks to pay and they would not be able to meet their staff payroll with a slow turnaround time on this claim. Seems funny to me that they don't have a problem waiting for the claim to pay any other time! Guess they don't have payroll issues unless a patient is in a car wreck! So long as you are not in a car wreck, you probably won't have any problems with Dr. West or any of the doctors at University Medical Associates, but God help you if you are hurt in a wreck.

  • The practice has multiple doctors - I prefer Dr. Bowen-Pasfield but have seen several of the others, also. My only major complaint is that I believe every time I've been there they have been behind and I have had to wait.

  • I was very disappointed with Dr Marcus Pitts, Jr. After having a colonoscopy and receiving the results that were normal, I made an appointment so that I could ask Dr Pitts to request that other tests be done to determine the cause of my pain. His nurse called me and asked why I was scheduling a followup appointment, and she explained that Dr Pitts does not normally see patients again after a colonoscopy unless he has found something wrong during the procedure that needs surgery. When I went in for that next visit, she asked me again and gave the same explanation. Dr Pitts was not interested in having other tests done that I had suggested. He recommended I drink more water and eat more fiber even after I explained that fiberous foods were causing cramping and I was unable to pass the gas that was being produced and that I was drinking plenty of water. He should have asked me how much water I was already drinking on a daily basis. Because of his instructions and my desperation to relieve the pain, I ended up drinking too much water which was making me sick and lethargic. You can actually die from drinking too much water. When I told him that Milk of Magnesia did not help me, he told me to continue to take it anyway.
This doctor is what I would call a colonoscopy doctor, a doctor who is only interested in seeing you if you need a colonoscopy or if you need surgery determined by colonoscopy.

  • Everyone was extremely friendly and extremely efficient.
I just received the follow-up information on my blood test in the mail. It was nice not to have to call back or visit just to get general (and good) information.
I can't comment enough on how pleasant everyone's bed-side manner was.
