Hvac Repair reviews in Griffin

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • He is a local person. He is the best there is in our town. He has done all the work on my house in Griffin. We rely on him because he is honest, very dependable, a good christian man. He just does very good people. He uses the right and good people. I would recommend him to anyone. He undercuts everybody because his father raised him right and to do the right thing and not to cheat people. That is why he does. He just does good work. I have known him for  lot of years. He is dependable. He can be a little late getting stuff done because he has so much business but that come with the territory when you are good at what you do.  He sends people and looks at the work because anything goes forward. He is just a great man. He does not really have a down season. He has very good values. He is a small company. He has a lot of competition but also has a good customer base because of the work that he does.

  • I knew my 30 year old unit needed to be replaced so I didn't bother asking for a service visit. When I called I said I would need my whole system replaced. I also wanted to upgrade my A/C unit to a larger one. They sent someone out the next day. He looked everything over. We talked. Next day he sent me a quote with three options that involved different levels of efficiency. Prices were reasonable. I picked the option I wanted. He set a day to do the install. Technicians showed up on time and did a quality installation. Later we had some minor adjustments that were needed. When we called they sent someone out next day. Very happy with price and service.

  • Fair price. Excellent work. They where there exactly when they said they would be. We went to a little bigger unit that required some duct work in addition to replacing inside/outside units. All went smoothly and they were done in a matter of hours. Looks good, works great. Needed a slight adjustment after installation. Called and a technician was there first thing the next morning. Very happy.

  • We cannot say enough good things about Meeks heating and air. The original technician that came out, Darryl, was very professional and polite. He took time to explain everything to us. He wanted to make sure that we knew everything that was needed to be done and wanted to make sure we knew what was needed. When the installers, Shannon and Jody, arrived they did a wonderful job. They explained everything and were very professional. They took the time to make sure that we were happy with everything and I would highly recommend them again! We are very pleased with our new Trane gas furnace and will be sure to call them again for anything that we might need!

  • I purchased a new A/C and furnace unit from Hammond 4 yrs. ago.  On Wed. evening (8/5/15),  the A.C. unit was not blowing cool air.  Since Hammond had installed the new unit 4 yrs ago and my paperwork was showing a 10 yr. manufacturers warranty for the compressor and parts, I called them Thurs. morning to schedule an appt.  The technician came out very promptly .  He determined the problem was a capacitor that had gone bad.  The technician said he did not have a replacement capacitor in his truck for my particular unit.  He said he could order the part and it would take 3-4 days to come in.  He also said he could put 2 smaller capacitors (essentially rigging it) so the unit would run until the ordered part came in and then he could install the correct part.  The other option he gave me was he could go pick up the correct part. He said it would be about a 15 min. round  trip to pick up the part, but  he would have to charge me a "$45.00 trip fee". He said the  total cost would be $269.00 which is $85.00 diagnostic fee, $45.00 trip fee and $139.00 labor.   I explained to the technician that a $45.00  trip fee to pick up a part  that was local  was unreasonable and that I clearly was being overcharged.  I also didn't want my A/C unit to be rigged with 2 capacitors and he agreed that was probably not the best route to take.  I paid the  $85.00 diagnostic fee but I certainly didn't want him to "pick up"  or order any parts and I declined any further work on the unit.

  • I was given an afternoon appointment but the tech did not show up until after 6PM. The system was running for about 30 minutes prior to his arrival and it became clear that it had a problem. The outside suction line was freezing over and the tech showed that the pressure on the suction line 40 psig instead of in the 60s. He wanted to add 1 pound of R22 to the system, but I insisted that this was a new problem that I did not have before. The original problem was that the unit does not heat nor cool enough. It turned out that the upstairs blower motor speed was on low for the winter, but the tech did not on insist on checking the airflow before charging the system.
The system had a bad repair from years ago where the evaporator coil was left sitting in the condensate pan. There was some sort of mounting panel that was missing or rusted out that was never replaced. I have the same exact air handler on the other side of the house to compare/contrast. This provider marks the 4th or 5th tech who has came out to investigate this not "enough heating or cooling" issue and wouldn't take the time to investigate the airflow. All I wanted from the tech was to honestly investigate and fix this issue that has been going on for a long time without trying to make unnecessary repairs.
After quite some time on google, youtube, and forums it turns out that the coil sitting in the pan is a major problem. Without the proper air flow, the heat from warmer air will not be transferred to the cooler gas in the coil. Only the gas in the evaporator coil is responsible for the heat transfer in something called superheat. I asked the tech explicitly about superheat and subcooling during his visit and he said that was important and I wasn't going to understand.
I have since taken the time out of my schedule to understand which I shouldn't have to. I purchased a cheap R22 guage; thermocouple digital thermometer with wet bulb/dry bulbs; and a super cool slide rule from Amazon at my own expense. I made a repair to the missing panel in order to mount coil for the correct airflow. The unit is now cooling and the outside suction line is sweating instead of freezing. The high side pressure on the unit 215 while the low side is 65 psig (38F). The temp on the suction line is 46F which gives a superheat (46-38F) of 8F. The ideal super heat for that day was12F with an indoor wet bulb of 62F and a outdoor dry bulb of 80F. In short, the system is actually slightly overcharged with an actual superheat below the ideal by more than 3F. In other words, the tech was getting ready to charge a slightly overcharged because the airflow wasn't verified.
The only good thing I can say for this company is that they didn't not charge me for the visit which he had every right to. However, he said he was going to talk to his manager and give us a call back and they never followed up after 3 weeks. I feel this sort of mistreatment brings in to serious question the value of being an Angie's list member. I felt compelled to write this review because they were going to overcharge a family member for a new coil and condenser. At the moment Angie's List is just a glorified yellow pages to me and the companies involved are not held accountable for anything.

  • It was great. They did it under extreme conditions in the middle of July. The system has been doing great. I called them a couple of times about a noise the unit was making, and they came right back and fixed the issues. The cost was reasonable and we got about 6-7 bids, and we got a very good value for our money. They crew was very great, professional, and polite. The cleanup was perfect.

  • This provider was a no-show as mentioned in a previous negative comment by another member. When I first called
the provider and he was polite about my situation. He gave me a preliminary estimate over the phone about
how much it would cost to replace the air handler which other providers would not do. However, the problems
started when I emailed and texted him in order to set up an appointment. He did not reply to either request and
when I called he tried to explain that he was attempting to clear out the rest of the work in his queue that week
before responding. During that same conversation on a Tuesday, he verbally agreed to come out on Saturday
morning and perform the estimate which would have cost $60. He ended up being a no-show and it has has
been more than 3 business days without any followup on his part. He did hint at that we were out of his way by
40 miles, but to not just show up or call to reschedule is just unprofessional. My only assumption about this provider
now is that he will not show up if you're not in one of his more profitable operating areas.  His business address is only 20
minutes (15 miles) from this house.

  • Meeks had been servicing my old Carrier heat pump for the past 3 years and managed to keep it going until this April when it totally died.  The service man was very professional and gave me all my options in an honest and open manner, he did not pressure me and allowed me time to research my alternatives.  I decided to have an Amana 14 seer 2.5 ton heat pump system installed by Meeks.  They were punctual, professional and courteous.  They showed me the old unit and pointed out the damaged places.  They cleaned up all of the debris and hauled it off.  I have been very satisfied with my new heat pump and will continue to use Meeks Heating and Air.
