    Chastain Chem-Dry
Our renter moved out and the carpets smelled of dog. We were getting ready to sell the house and wanted a top level carpet cleaning. We went with Chem-Dry based on their advertisements for their pet treatment and Chastain Chem-Dry specifically based on their Angie's List reviews and their listing on the Chem-Dry site that said they used truck mounted equipment. I called to see if someone could come out and give me an estimate. When I called the owner answered and said that would not be necessary, he could provide an estimate over the phone. He gave me an estimate of $319.00. I told him I had a coupon for 5 rooms and the hall for $199. He said he factored that in plus $40 for the extra room and two stairs. That made the stair cleaning $80.00. Kevin arrived on time, said he could apply pet treatment on the whole house for $150 and began the work. We did not monitor Kevin and he finished in 1.5 hours. We did note that he did not use our water while on-site, did not use truck mounted equipment, vacuumed approximately 1500 square feet of carpet, cleaned 1500 square feet of carpet to include 15 steps, identified and applied the pet treatment and raked the carpets all in 90 minutes. Kevin stated that it could take up to two weeks for the smell to go away. After one week, we did not feel the pet treatment was working. We took a UV light and could see untreated urine stains along with areas where treatment was applied. We also did not "feel" the carpets were clean, especially the steps. We spoke with the owner who said to give it a little more time and that Kevin was a good employee. He stated that we should have "requested" truck mounting service if we had that desire. He stated he did not recall having a discussion on pet treatment when I placed the order. I told him he specifically stated that one gallon of the treatment covered about 12-18 softball size stains and that I believed the two gallons applied was not sufficient. He did not offer, at this point to redo the work and, I must admit, I was unsure of what I wanted done, looking to him for advice. Five days later, we decided to rent a Rug Doctor. While I do not consider a Rug Doctor anywhere near as good as professional cleaning, I was interested on what would come out of the carpet. The thinner carpet, two years old, produced some dirt but seemed OK. The thicker carpet was much dirtier and the stairs were filthy, like they had not been cleaned. I contacted the owner the next day. He said Kevin believed he did a good job but was willing to have him come back. I told the owner the carpets "looked" and smelled much better after the Rug Doctor treatment than the Chem-Dry treatment and described the amount of dirt I got out of the thicker carpets and stairs. I told him that I did not believe the stairs were cleaned. But, since I did not want them to return, we were at impasse. Some data points: It takes my wife or I at least 30 minutes just to vacuum the 1500 square feet of carpet. It took me two hours to clean the carpets with the Rug Doctor plus an hour for the steps. To do everything Chem-Dry claimed to do in 90 minutes seems super human! Bottom Line: Instead of paying Chem-Dry for their pet treatment, go to home depot and buy Nature's Miracle for 1/3 the cost. Get a UV light to find the stains. After treating the stains, either use a Rug Doctor or get professional steam cleaning for half the cost of Chem-Dry.

I had used them 2 or 3 times prior to my last time, and they had always done a good job. I don't know what happened but it was terrible. I'm kind of in a dilemma because they have done such a good job the other times that I wasn't sure if it was just the technician that didn't know how to work the machinery. I actually did call them about it and sent them pictures. Like the carpet that was on the stairs, when they were finished, there were stains there that weren't there before they cleaned it. I sent the pictures to the company because I called them that when it got finished drying and everything, I saw stains that weren't there before he cleaned, and they kind of blew me off so I wasn't really very happy about that. Because the guy that came to do it was very friendly, that was why I was kind of reluctant to even call the company because he was such a good guy, and I didn't want to give him the trouble because the botomline was my carpet didn't come out clean. I was kind of caught in between because I didn't want to tell on him but at the same time I wasn't satisfied with the service. I contacted them and took pictures of where the stains were that weren't there before the guy did the work. The response that I think I should have gotten was they should have said sorry and they would send somebody else out here to do a better job. That was the response I expected, and I did not get that. They just blew me off and never got back to me again. I had good responses from them previously. I was really surprised. I just never pursued it because I will just get somebody else, but the reality of it they are the best carpet company I have ever had to come in and clean my carpet so I am reluctant to try Stanley Steemer or Sears or something like that because they have always done such a great job. I am reluctant to call them back because I don't want it to happen again so my carpets haven't been cleaned in a year. I was okay with the pricing. I thought I was getting the quality that I got in the past so I didn't have a problem paying that kind of money. They were here in the right amount of time.

This was an $88 big deal purchase. It went very well, thank you. It was very thorough. He picked up as much as he could and got it out of the way. He cleaned everything he could get to. I was very pleased and he was very pleasant. He charged for an extra spray that he put on this carpet to try to get my dog to stop making messes on my carpet and it is working. I don't know how he could have done any better. I like him because he did a thorough job and when he left here, my carpet was dry. That was the main thing. This is a one bedroom apartment and I hesitated to hire anybody to come in here and do this because when they go away they leave the carpet wet. They tell you you'll have to wait two hours before you come back in your house. When he left here this carpet was dry. Personally, I thought I got what I paid for. He got here right on time. He was very professional and explained what he was doing.  He came in here, moved what he could move, did a nice job and left.

    Got Carpets?
Overall the cleaning looked good.  I often hear people talk about stains disappearing and then reappearing several days later.  That did happen with one of our stains but it's lighter now then it was before and it was an old stain that had been there for several years so I'm not upset about that.  My main complaint is that the floors looked amazing when she was here but the next day after they had dried their were clear stains from the hose where it had been dragged up the stairs and at the top of the stairs.  I thought they would fade away as their had been no stains there prior to the cleaning but they didn't and I had to take lxi clean and scrub the stains to get them to lift.  It was a pain and very annoying.
