Counseling & Mental Health reviews in Dalton

Dr. Jennings was to the point in the opening interview. He is a Christian psychiatrist. I have complete respect for people who believe in God. I just choose not to, and I would like the same respect. When he found out I did not believe in God, Dr. Jennings proceeded to use the rest of the hour to talk about God and sin and how God and meditating on him could lead to healing. He asked me if I was open to counseling with a Christian slant. I said that I was willing to try it, but didn't want to turn our sessions into sermons. He said that he would like for me to read a Christian based book on mental health (which he wrote by the way) and that he didn't mind if I didn't believe in God as long as I had a good reason. I was okay with our chat until that last bit. I felt like I was on trial from that point on and that it was my job to justify my spiritual beliefs to this man. I changed our next visit to a medication check only because I didn't feel like being grilled about my faith or lack thereof. The next visit he found out I work for an insurance company in town. He then proceeded to talk about how insurance companies were evil and that we didn't need big office buildings. We could work in some warehouse out in the countryside. I felt the remarks were totally unprofessional and had nothing to do with my personal health. To be fair, Dr. Jennings works in a nice building downtown and he doesn't even take insurance, which causes his patients to have to deal with filing their own claims. He had a lot of opinions for someone who doesn't even have to deal with the company and then charges $200 an hour. I canceled my follow-up appointment. I will NOT see Dr. Jennings again and would not recommend him to anyone unless you want to see someone who is overly confrontational without building any kind of patient rapport

He is a very good doctor, knowledgeable and caring. He has been in this profession for many years and also in his practice for many years. He has a good education and background. He is difficult to get an appointment with because he stays busy and he is always late. The medication has not helped me, but it is not his fault. Not all medications work for everyone.
