    COMPANION ANIMAL HOSPITAL
When I brought him there for his neuter appointment I was informed that they could not do the surgery without formal documentation of his upper respiratory vaccines (which he had). I thought that base was covered the previous day when I gave them the phone number for the cat rescue organization where I adopted the kitten. I contacted the rescue manager and it turned out she was not contacted by Companion.. So for nothing, I withheld food the night before, and drove there (40 minutes) only to find out the Companion people did not follow up and get the OK on the vaccine records. Nor did they call me to tell me they were not willing or able to get the records. They should have let me know the day before or at least called me in the morning to save me a trip. The kitten is up to date all on vaccines but I did not have the documentation because I thought they had it. Be advised their surgical patients are in the same room with their sick patients - not a good idea if you want you pet to stay well.

    HOPE ANIMAL MEDICAL CTR
My veterinarian from Hope Animal Medical Center is fantastic. She's been my veterinarian for 8 years. She listens to what I have to say. She takes good care of the animals. She's done several surgeries for me. My cat has skin cancer and she coordinated with another doctor to remove his skin cancer.

    Pawtropolis
I am privileged enough to be able to bring my dog to Pawtropolis 2-3 times every week.
I am 100% delighted about every aspect of the services they provide.
    I recommend them 100%.
Although the address is Bogart, and looking at a map seems not too handy for Athens downtown (I work at UGA), Pawtropolis is actually closer than it looks, situated on the westside (and East side soon) very clsoe to the Mall and just off the Loop. From downtown it is about 15 minutes in average to heavy traffic.
Obviously this service is not for everyone. Not every dog owner is fortunate enough to be able to afford day care etc for his/her dog.
But, if you have the financial means, this is a brilliant alternative to leaving Fido alone everyday while you go to work.
At Pawtropolis, Fido will get a great social life (and resulting good doggie manners) and fun and exercise and be safe and loved on.
This can be for 12 hours if you so wish (7:30am-7:30pm, shorter at weekends) but even half a day makes Fido a happy pooch.
Buying a bunch of days together is best value but you can pay by the day:
A whole day is $20.00 or $6 per hour (up to 3 hrs) The Pawtropolis website has detailed info on all services and is really comprehensive and up to date: www.pawtropolis.com/ and you can get that free webcam surveillance if you want!
To be allowed participate in doggie daycare, your pooch must pass a temperament test. ($25) This is a vital guarantee for everyone's sake that your dog will be with other dogs who are well-balanced and well-socialized. I never have to worry about my dog, who has a very sweet and submissive personality, being bullied (or worse injured) by other and quot;class matesand quot;. And the staff are vigilant about the dynamics of each group.
Your dog, if s/he passes the test, will be assigned a group according to size and energy level etc. Some days the group will be bigger and livelier than others. But regardless, your dog gets looked after and stimulated the entire day.
When you arrive to drop off your dog, the front desk person will take down any special requirements you have and they follow through at the end of the day: special diet, extra activities, any injuries or post op issues to be monitored, for example.
The front desk area has supplies (food, dog beds, leashes and collars, toys, treats) but not once has any member of staff ever pushed a product, which I greatly appreciate. If there is a food, a treat or a toy that you are interested in they will help you decide if it is right for your dog.
The staff are the greatest. In a college town, it is (alas) too common to find businesses of all sorts employing students without training them or requiring professional standards of them (no doubt related to hiring and firing and low wage practices especially in the restaurant world), Pawtropolis stands out. All the staff are professional in their approach to their work and to the customers. It is hard to list each and every way this matters but I am a cranky and critical person when it comes to expecting quality service commensurate with the prices charged AND the responsibilities involved in the task at hand. I hate hate hate bad service! Pawtropolis staff are nice young men and women but the significant thing is not just that they are amiable and love our dogs, but that they are also serious, reliable and devoted to the dogs they care for, and they are unusually mature and really helpful by comparison with their peers in Athens.
One of the great things in drop off/pick up is seeing how the staff know all the dogs by name and seem to genuinely have affection for each and everyone of their and quot;guestsand quot;. Sure they may have favorites, but every single dog is welcomed and looked after as though they are the only dog in the world!
I also like that at drop off/pick up, dogs are all leashed and kept firmly under control and separated so there is no anxiety about bad interactions. If owners choose to let their dogs say hello to each other it is always a positive experience. I also like it when the staff tell us that our dogs are especially good friends and daycare playmates--and it is apparent this is true by the goofiness that ensues when they meet at the desk.
Amanda, the owner, has accomplished something amazing with Pawtropolis. It is a well-run, totally professional and brilliantly-designed business which makes our dog lovers' lives so much better! Good news for Athens Eastsiders: Pawtropolis is expanding.
Wow! I am looking at the lengthy essay I just wrote to recommend Pawtropolis and I am laughing: who is going to read all this?!!!
If you are a dog lover and looking for dog care of any sort in Athens Georgia, then I hope you have read this and will try Pawtropolis. I never written an Angie's List review before but this is one business that has changed my life for the better and it's a business that I am prepared to put my name and to support publicly.

    Pawtropolis
The care is excellent. The staff makes sure your dog can be integrated into one of the daycare packs, each of which is segregated generally by size of dog. They keep an eye on them and check to see that the pack stays relatively calm. It's very clean and organized. Each pack gets access to a small yard via a doggie door. You can check on your dog via a web cam link. The staff truly cares about the animals. The boutique at the entrance is a little expensive, but that's probably because the volume is low. I could not recommend this facility highly enough. I wish I could afford to take my dogs every day.
