    Weatherby Renovations
I sent this contractor a first pass list of items we wanted them to come out and give estimates on.  I offered to pay for the estimates, as I knew it would be a significant amount of work to compile them and break them out. Without even asking the square footage of my bathroom or what I wanted done in that particular room, the contractor responded with "it's $18k minimum for the master bath, we're not interested doing any of the other work."  They went out of the way to remind me that they're a "general contractor" as if I maybe wasn't looking for that exact thing.
Well, it's because of the volume of the work I need done, and the inter relatedness of most of it that I need a general contractor. I'd call an exterior gut of a huge portion of the house, a complete master bathroom gut, and a significant potential kitchen remodel something you'd want to use a general contractor for because it involves coordination between multiple trades. Clearly, Weatherby has a different opinion. Fine by me, but the experience rubbed me the wrong way.  If you can't bother to come out and give a proper estimate, don't bother giving an estimate at all. Just say we're too busy or you're too tiny for us, or put guidelines on your website for what kind of work you do and don't want. To their credit, they supplied a list of alternative one-off contractors, and if I thought I could manage all that, I probably would do just that rather than try to hire a GC.  To their credit, they also responded quite quickly (though it doesn't take much to pen out a reply like that). If you're suggesting $18k minimum for a master bath, when most larger master baths are around 120 square feet, this means you're talking about $150/square foot. That's quite a high price (among the highest) for brand new construction in this part of Atlanta. And that's "starting".  Wow. I'm sure these guys do great work for the volume and quality of their reviews, just make sure you're comfortable with that kind of attitude.

    Rosewood Basements And Remodeling
My husband and I contacted Rosewood Basements and Remodeling to get an estimate on finishing our basement. We met with Mitch in mid-March and were very impressed by him. Mitch was prompt, professional, and full of ideas and options for our consideration. He was personable and made me feel very comfortable right from the start. We got estimates from 5 different companies and narrowed our search down to 2, with Rosewood being one of those 2. If my budget wasn't so tight for this project, I probably would have selected Rosewood to perform the work. The estimates were only a few thousand dollars apart, but I couldn't justify the extra expense at the current time. If this had been part of the main living area, I would have waited to begin work until I had the full budget to go with Rosewood. I will definitely call Mitch in the future for estimates on my kitchen and bathrooms when I am ready to being those projects.
