    Augusta Dermatology Associates

When I got in I was asked if I completed all the paperwork. I was neither referred to a website nor mailed paper work. I filled out the 5 page contract which read, for example:

"Your insurance company is motivated to have you only use drugs on their formulary. We are motivated to give you the best, safest, and most effective treatment". We will ATTEMPT to get non-formulary drugs approved, but ultimately the decision is between you and your insurance company." If you know that your insurance company requires you to try generic drugs first, please let us know. This will save you a lot of time and confusion at the pharmacy _______ (Initial by the patient)."

I wrote underneath - "they have an approved drugs list, use first", then initialed.

Several other places where they seemed to disclaim the plan, or hold me responsible for their acts; I made my amendments and initialed.

I returned to the desk and told the receptionist I want a copy of the paperwork I had signed. She handed me a blank (not completed copy). I handed it back and said I did not sign that - I want a copy of what I signed.

She went into the back, came out with a blank, incomplete copy and told me I needed to complete it, without any additional marks. I indicated that wasn't happening.

She directed me around the corner to check-in; when I arrived at check-in a young girl behind the counter handed me the same blank copy and said - if you want to see the doctor, you can fill it out and sign it - no changes. I told her that wasn't happening. She looked at me and said - may I give the numbers of some other dermatologists? I responded no - you can hand back every copy of anything I signed and  get me the office manager. She refused to give back the paperwork.

The office manager explained that yes it was a contract and yes they were protecting their own interests and yes that there had to be a meeting of the minds; but that I really could not change the contract; the meeting of the minds was I accepted all terms as they had written. I responded, So you want me to sign everything you want in writing, but you are not willing to consider my written response - only "verbal" - Nonsense. As a professional, somewhat versed in contracts, you are in violation of plan provisions and perhaps law - I want all my paperwork - anything I signed and all copies - NOW! She provided the paperwork. I responded, do not make a mistake and send a bill and left. It looks like perhaps, those in the waiting room heard us loud and clear.

I called the insurance co (CIGNA). they agreed to investigate.

I made an appt. for both the above items and was told I would need to see the PA Kenneth Johnson, which was fine with me. The office was nice, plenty of parking, and the staff was courteous. My issue was that I made an appointment for 2 things, specifically stated in my phone call, but when I arrived the receptionist notified me that they wouldn't have time to do the mole scan. She couldn't tell me why, though. So, I went back anyway and then told the nurse what I was there for. She seemed perturbed but couldn't give me a real reason why they didn't want to do a 3 minute check. I again INSISTED on getting what I came to get and so she went out to ask the PA if he could do it. He agreed and it took literally 3 minutes. The PA did the right thing, but staff did not. It is very unprofessional for a receptionist, who could have been the person who made my appointment, to tell me I couldn't get treated for what I had planned for with them in advance. It was a 3 minute thing to boot! Johnson, was fast, efficient, and did a good job on my facial lesions. I won't go back even though I got what I went for. I have high deductive insurance, no copay, so I'm out of pocket on this. It was too much of a hassle to argue my way into the service.

    Florentino, Dr. Frances T.
Dr. Florentino was booked so I took the quickest appointment with her PA Jennifer. She is very nice and very knowledgeable.
I was with her for about 8 appointments to remove the abscess. It was bad but she took care of the abscess the first appointment and packed it. I came back once a week until the packing was removed. She was very quick and gentle and knew what she was doing. I would go back to her. Usually I don't care for PA's but for my skin abscess I felt comfortable in this area. I was on time to all my appointments and only had to wait about 20-30 minutes one time. The waiting room was full that day, but other than that one day I got right in as soon as I showed up. Great staff. especially the front office staff, they are really nice and answered all my questions. I will keep seeing this group when I need to. Very nice place, friendly staff, no long waits - usually and I hope this helped anyone looking for a nice dermatologist office.

    Anna Duckworth MD
It took almost two months to get an appointment with Dr. Duckworth. I was hoping to see her sooner because I wanted to clear up the skin on my legs before summer arrived.
When I got to the office, the front desk attendant was very friendly. The office was clean, and a television was on for the patients. The nurse who went over my medical history before the doctor arrived was nice. There was a very short wait to see Dr. Duckworth, which doesn't normally happen. My only complaint is that my appointment was so short. Because my skin wasn't broken out when I visited the office, it was hard for her to completely diagnose my problem, although she thought it might be excema.
However, Dr. Duckworth asked lots of questions and advised me to call the office as soon as I had another breakout so I could come in and have her take a look, which I hope means I won't have such a long wait to get an appointment next time. She gave me a prescription for a skin cream, which her office sent directly to my drugstore, so I didn't have to cart around a paper prescription, take it to the store, wait 20 minutes to have it filled, etc. I just went to my drugstore later that day and picked it up while I was running errands in the area.

    Kight, Dr. Fred J.
My experience with Dr. Kight was good. They seem to have well run procedures. They are very good at handling day to day things like billing issues and appointments. You can usually be seen in a timely manner and you don't have to wait too long. So, they seem to be good at that.

Dr. Pierce is extremely thorough. He really knows what he is doing, but he is very very busy. He is a great guy and the ladies in his office are great as well.

I don't believe that it could have gone better. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and good at her job. When the job includes someone's face, that is especially important.
