FGC is professional, trustworthy and reliable. Construction is always stressful and unexpected things arise, but Pam & Andrew do a great job of communicating, delivering what they promise, and following-up to be sure you're satisfied.

Foundation was poured before sewage line was run, foundation has a 1/8" crack that has yet to be determined. Foundation had to be drilled for sewage (just negligent planning), came out OK on that part. Foundation had to be drilled for sewage (just negligent planning), came out OK on that part. Piers and floor joists not coordinated so some piers are too high. Architect re-designed some piers, piers had gaps and some cuts in floor joists. House not protected well from rain, hardwood floor of existing house does not look damaged, but it got wet. Rough sewer plumbing vents are not in the wall, the walls will have to be made thicker reducing my room size or moved to be in the wall. One of the sewer drain "Y" is facing uphill which will make snaking impossible, I was told "its only a sink." Framing of two doors had no queen studs (they fixed them when pointed out). Wall and roof framing not according to plans.Wall and roof "patched up" to inspector's satisfaction." I called in the architect and he made a list of "unacceptable" changes. That's where we are at now, Mike Baron has his guy(s) correcting the list, but I cannot get a hold of them. Roofing was bid at $30K by mike, I offered 18K and he said there was no profit in it. Marco roofing did the roof and gutters for 13K. Items still in contention (assuming he completes his contract with the architect changes):Wood left under the house (termite attraction), Walls in old section torn down unnecessarily, Lost rent due (many days with one or no workers),

I sat down with Conch Republic and explained my time urgency and it was not a problem..

First project lifting my house to rid of the old rotted sill beam and put in a new one .While waiting on permits Pete and his team did beautiful bamboo floors throughout my house upstairs and down (very reasonable)

At the end of each working day I came home to a place that looked better then I had left it. The team was so clean and neat as well as polite I was certain I had made the right choice

With new beams and all I thought that while they were at a certain point with outside work almost finished would they mind putting in a new back deck? They did not blink an eye whew...grateful!!

I am very happy with my choice of Conch Republic Home Repair you certainly get quality work with a responsible quality team hat take pride!

We live in Canada and had a home being restored in Key West. We have had so much trouble with this from the start. We brought this contractor in to finish work another contractor had started. We had to get a new contractor because of permit issues and HARC approval with the former contractor. When we came back in October to our Florida home we looked at the work that had been done and it was just extremely shotty. There was no communication between and the attention to detail was terrible. The ceiling fans were installed terribly, the lights in the kitchen were not hung correctly, the bathroom was appalling as well as many other problems. These people were negligent and careless with this job. We have found a new contractor that has made this process much easier so far. I would recommend that if you are getting work done in Key West that you would be at the home while they are doing the job. I feel like this project was treated differently because we were out of the country and now we have thousands of dollars extra when it could have been avoided if we were there.

    comments for the attached photos

photos of kitchen faucet - the lever on the faucet is too close to the top piece of the granite, therefore the lever will not fully open.

the fans - both of the fan were not properly installed as there is a special box that ceiling fans have to be put into. This is being

                    redone now.

photo of drop lights in the kitchen ceiling were hung too high because the cupboard door will not open if they were placed

correctly. They have to be moved over and lowered about 2 feet.

no photo. bathroom.pot lights were installed in the bathroom ceiling wherein I specifically asked that no pot lights be placed over the sink. There is a pot light over the sink that has to be removed.

house painting - we searched out and got our own painting contractor to caulk and prime the outside 3 walls of a cottage that is 625 square feet. We saved $5500 using or own contractor after getting a quote of $8894.00 by Affiliated Design.

You will not see personal endorsements on this company's website and for good reason. The liaison with the city was so bad that a de facto stop worker order was issued, causing a three month delay, an unneceesary and expensive appraisal. A 'cost to complete' was ask for after the delay and not received. Competitive pricing was approximately 35 percent cheaper than this company's original estimate. A very unprofessional job by rank amateurs.

Everything went great for me. I actually had used him several years ago and I had forgotten his name. I own a rental property in Columbus, Georgia, but I live in Key West, Florida and I needed some work done on my property. I really like him and I have used him before. When I found him on Angie's List I got hold of him again and in fact he just did some work for me after that. He has done all kinds of construction work for me and everything that he has ever done he has done confidently. He is very fairly priced. He has a good attitude. Regarding price, like I said I have used him before, so I was not frightened that he was going overprice me. The condition of the mold turned out to be not as bad as they thought it was, so I am thinking that it is not going to be as expensive. I did not ask him for a quote, because I knew him well and I trust him. When he says he will be there, he will.

    William D. Becker, Inc.
I initially spoke with Bill Becker to work on issues that were a result of our roof being replaced by another contractor.  We were getting rid of two skylights and also a cupola type structure on the house.  The house needed some exterior wood that was rotted to be removed and replaced.  Also I needed the ceilings and carpentry work to repair where the roof skylights and were removed.  Bill did a good job on the exterior work and he had to deal with some pretty tricky place to work (out over water and on small decks).  He was quick to identify any problems he saw such as electrical or other damage and let me know about it so I could decide what to do.  He also had recommendations on how to proceed which were always good to heed.
Once he moved inside Bill had a couple employees he brought to assist.  We had identified a few areas in the ceiling that needed to be repaired and Bill started that work.  The project turned out to be much larger than we anticipated but Bill and I talked through the progress and the plans often.
I explained most of the work above so I am going to give you my opinion on why I chose Bill and why I gave him the scores I did.
    - Bill is more expensive than what you could get from some other contractors, but I think he also provides a better service for what I needed.
    - Bill is an honest contractor and could be trusted to give good advice and do what he said he would.  I gave Bill the key to my house for the entire 3 months he was working on the house.   This was a very big factor for me.
    -  Bill does the job right and doesn't take shortcuts.  He always let me know when he found something unexpected in the house or noticed something that was not up to code.  He let me make the decision on what to do and gave sound advice.
    -  No job was too small.  For example, he put trim around the microwave for me since it was something that bothered me, even though he didn't have any work in the kitchen.  On the other hand he can do some really big jobs and he has the right tools for every job.
