    Help at Home Home Care
They were horrendous. If you care for the quality of your elderly family member who cannot communicate, stay away from this company. When I was able to travel to my dads house, the living conditions my dad was living in was filthy. There was black mold growing in his bathroom that no one communicated with me. This needed to be torn out and replaced which was $12000. He needed to be removed from the house while this was being done, due to health reasons. I went through several companions. This office communication is perfectly non existent. They take on more work than they have employees for and they are always trying to scramble to fill positions. The service plan I filled out for my father was not followed. I showed up unexpectedly and I found my father home alone and his companion was not in the house with him as she was being paid to do. At this point, I terminated the service.

    Leslie Wingfield - Private Duty
We were more than happy with her services. She was professional, honest and reliable. She treated our loved one with the utmost of respect and compassion. She did a great job of adapting to the changing needs of our loved one. She provided not only physical care for our loved one but also emotional care. We could not have cared for this loved one at home without Leslie, she was a God-send.

    Mike Lucas
Mike took care of me for around 5 years. He was always on time, had a great bedside manner, very careful & did not rush me to get the job done. Being a quadriplegic I needed full assistance with everything. Mike is dependable, honest & very caring. I would highly recommend him to anyone who may need assistance for themselves or a loved one. We still stay in touch to this day and consider him a close family friend.

    Dr Grab Bar LLC
Although this person provides a much needed item...grab bars in home, his price is totally out of line. We were caught off guard. He goes through his routine of why you need the grab bars. Fair enough. We already knew, but polite. After approx. 15 minutes, we said OK, then asked for pricing. Now mind you, we could have said no and we should have. For six Moen Grab Bars (2 each bath) his price was $520. The Moen fixtures are approx. $25/piece at Lowe's. Six times $25 = $150. His service fee is $370 for 1.5 hrs. work or approx. $180 per HOUR. Outrageous. We needed the bars, he advertised in our local HOA newsletter. Most customers are seniors and he preys on one's fears. Once there and with his examples/demonstrations of how you are going to fall and you will; his story of the family who ended up with a cripple in a wheel chair when he didn't have the bars installed in his bath only his wife's; his falling into your tub; and he is there; we gave in. DO NOT. This should have been written up long ago by someone. $180/hr. for labor? Really. Call around as we did later and found out we could have had the job done for approx. $250-$300. We fully accept our role in NOT getting a couple of bids which we normally do. We relied on our HO newsletter advertising. Again, we accept our part, but it was time someone exposed this ridiculous pricing.

    Right at Home

Right at home cared for my parent for six months.  Caregiver turnover was constant.  My parent went from needing little assistance to being 100% in need of assistance within those six months due to the inability or laziness of the caregiver to get my parent up and moving.  The caregivers sat next to my parent on the couch and watched TV all day.  There were notes taped on the wall with exercises needed to be done each day.  None were ever done.  Despite Physical Therapy 3 times per week, my parent declined; as per the physical therapists - directly due to the caregivers not following up with the exercises to be done at home.Because of the rotation of different caregivers, no one took responsibility for the care of my parent.

This home health agency is expanding at a pace that they cannot keep regular caregivers at any one location.  They charge the patient $23.50 per hour but only pay the home healthaide $10.  They've increased the price to the patient, but did not increase the amount given to the aide as the letter stated was the reason for the increase.

Billing and Administration only received an b due to their ability to call weekly to ensure payment.  I had called to inform the office of an appointment for my parent during the week, the information was never passed down to the caregiver the day of the appointment, therefore my parent missed the appointment.  My parent went from being socially active needing care to in diapers homebound within 6 months.

I was under the understanding that the caregivers would be bringing my parent to appointments/grocery shopping.  They never did and we paid separately thousands of dollars for transportation to appointments and I travelled 57 miles each week to grocery shop.

    Austin Pharmacy & Medical Supplies
Austin Pharmacy & Medical Supplies proved to be a very nice establishment, with a wide variety of medical supplies and equipment.  A Golden lift chair was purchased  by me for $1400, but did not arrive for three weeks.  When it arrived it turned out to be over-sized, and I asked to exchange it for a regular-sized chair.  However, I was charged a $150 re-stocking fee.  I subsequently wrote Austin to explain why I should not have been charged for a mistake I could not have foreseen, and they canceled the charge on my credit card.
I was very satisfied, and I would definitely patronize them again.

I bought the grab bars myself at a home improvement store.  This vendor told me he would only install ADA approved grab bars, which is a good thing, in my opinion.  He is careful to install a quality product and install it properly - because after all, people are depending on him for their safety.  He installed them where I asked, gave his opinion based on safety practices, and did a very clean job.

    Dr Grab Bar LLC
GOT SWINDLED ON PRICING!!! My wife and I scheduled an appointment with Mr. Alan Blum (Dr. Grab Bar) for September 20, 2012 in order to get an estimate for the purchase and installation of grab bars for our two bath tubs and one walk in shower. He was prompt and assisted our needs rather quickly. He gave us a price and offered to install the items immediately. In the absence of having time to research pricing and based upon having socially met him upon a couple of previous occasions, (I had even mentioned him to my barber who previously worked with Mr. Blum in the haircutting business) we decided to go ahead with the purchase and installation. The workmanship was excellent and efficient, and we agreed to write a testimonial for him at his request. A day later, we took time to research the products he sold us, only to find out that his pricing, by any reasonable standards, was OUTRAGEOUS! By the time he was through with us, we wound up paying for his labor at a rate of $200 an hour-an overcharge of nearly $500.When we wrote the testimonial for him, we pointed out his good qualities AND his outrageous labor charge. I happened to bump into Mr. Blum at a store just recently and expressed my outrage with respect to his gross overcharging-His only response was, "I get whatever I can." I told him that I would be contacting Angie's List, the Better Business Bureau, and exposing, by word-of-mouth, his "swindling" business practices in an effort to prevent him from "victimizing" others.

    Take Care of Sarasota

This story, and our evaluation needs to be in two parts.
The initial weekday caregiver assigned, Phyllis LaCroix, was/is beyond excellent. She was with us 7 to 10 hours/day, Mon. through Fri. for 15 months, and was/is more than satisfactory in all respects. I cannot speak too highly of her.
About 2+ months ago we reached the point of needing night and week-end coverage, and the difficulties started. Take Care sent out several different caregivers, some of whom were pretty good, and a couple of whom were very unsatisfactory. We finally got down to a short list of 3 who were satisfactory, 2 of whom were the regulars. After some time my wife found one of the regulars sleeping during the night, and when things got more difficult the other one complained that the job was becoming more than she could handle. During this time there was also some vacation issues requiring caregiver changes and Take Care scheduling were difficult at best. Finally we switched to a different service for nights and weekends.
For weekdays our experience was A+++.
For nights and weekends our experience was variable from A to F.

    Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota

The duty nurses were very helpful with diagnosis and treatment of discomfort, and the case social worker was very supportive. Near the end we called in a nurse again and she was "above and beyond" in providing immediate ameliorative care, contacting doctors and pharmacy to get needed meds, and setting up "crisis care" nursing coverage. The crisis care nurses couldn't have been better. Sunny, the nurse at the end, was outstanding in communicating, assisting, and ensuring that my wife was cared for as well during and after the final minutes.
Tidewell was above 100% in all respects.
