Although this person provides a much needed item...grab bars in home, his price is totally out of line. We were caught off guard. He goes through his routine of why you need the grab bars. Fair enough. We already knew, but polite. After approx. 15 minutes, we said OK, then asked for pricing. Now mind you, we could have said no and we should have. For six Moen Grab Bars (2 each bath) his price was $520. The Moen fixtures are approx. $25/piece at Lowe's. Six times $25 = $150. His service fee is $370 for 1.5 hrs. work or approx. $180 per HOUR. Outrageous. We needed the bars, he advertised in our local HOA newsletter. Most customers are seniors and he preys on one's fears. Once there and with his examples/demonstrations of how you are going to fall and you will; his story of the family who ended up with a cripple in a wheel chair when he didn't have the bars installed in his bath only his wife's; his falling into your tub; and he is there; we gave in. DO NOT. This should have been written up long ago by someone. $180/hr. for labor? Really. Call around as we did later and found out we could have had the job done for approx. $250-$300. We fully accept our role in NOT getting a couple of bids which we normally do. We relied on our HO newsletter advertising. Again, we accept our part, but it was time someone exposed this ridiculous pricing.

I bought the grab bars myself at a home improvement store.  This vendor told me he would only install ADA approved grab bars, which is a good thing, in my opinion.  He is careful to install a quality product and install it properly - because after all, people are depending on him for their safety.  He installed them where I asked, gave his opinion based on safety practices, and did a very clean job.

GOT SWINDLED ON PRICING!!! My wife and I scheduled an appointment with Mr. Alan Blum (Dr. Grab Bar) for September 20, 2012 in order to get an estimate for the purchase and installation of grab bars for our two bath tubs and one walk in shower. He was prompt and assisted our needs rather quickly. He gave us a price and offered to install the items immediately. In the absence of having time to research pricing and based upon having socially met him upon a couple of previous occasions, (I had even mentioned him to my barber who previously worked with Mr. Blum in the haircutting business) we decided to go ahead with the purchase and installation. The workmanship was excellent and efficient, and we agreed to write a testimonial for him at his request. A day later, we took time to research the products he sold us, only to find out that his pricing, by any reasonable standards, was OUTRAGEOUS! By the time he was through with us, we wound up paying for his labor at a rate of $200 an hour-an overcharge of nearly $500.When we wrote the testimonial for him, we pointed out his good qualities AND his outrageous labor charge. I happened to bump into Mr. Blum at a store just recently and expressed my outrage with respect to his gross overcharging-His only response was, "I get whatever I can." I told him that I would be contacting Angie's List, the Better Business Bureau, and exposing, by word-of-mouth, his "swindling" business practices in an effort to prevent him from "victimizing" others.

I was in a bind. My husband was being discharged from the hospital. He is handicapped and mobility is an issue. He was not exercised in the hospital and was very weak.  He had some extra fluid in his body and was beginning hemodialysis. The swelling was and is very uncomfortable when it occurs.  I had to rent a wheel chair so I could get him from our car into the house. I called Florida Surgical Supply to inquire about price and availability.  I was given a price of $45/month and I agreed and went to get the chair. When I got to the store I saw the chair and although very nice I thought it might be a little narrow for him. Concerned for his comfort I asked if they  had a wider one.  Initially they said no, but "found" one in the back that had just been returned.  They needed to clean it up and replace the arm rests which were in poor shape.  I was so glad to have found it  however when I went to pay for it I was told that it was more expensive- $100/per mo.  I was astonished and asked why the difference.  The person behind the counter said this to me.
"Well, it costs a lot of money to GET  big, so it costs a lot of money to take care of BIG."   I was appalled and said "What did you say to me??" It was repeated.  What a  hurtful thing to say!  My husband was ill, the fluid build up was kidney failure and I was trying to assure he be as comfortable as possible.  I might add that the wide wheelchair is 2 inches wider than the normal one. I had no choice but to get one as I needed it immediately.
I asked what was the minimum time I could rent it and was told 2 weeks, for which I gave them $50.  I returned it on time.
The man that put it in the car for me after cleaning it up and replacing the armrests was quite nice.  The man behind the counter was dreadful, in my opinion.  I was going to call the manager when things settled down at home until I found out HE was the manager. His name is Bryan.  What a shame that someone in a helping business has such a derogatory attitude towards folks in need.  Never again will I obtain any needed supplies or equipment from this business. There are others in town.

They have been out here 3 times. I called them two weeks ago today and told them my wheelchair had shorted out. They said they would take care of it right away. 1 week later I never heard anything. I called the company again and a gentleman answered the phone and was very snappy and seemed annoyed I had called. He then blamed the wheelchair short on me and said that it had shorted out because I had gotten it wet. He said a guy named Deab who is in state would come to my house and take a look. He is very helpful, nice and comes to your house for service when I called he said he had the part in stock. Everyone was blaming everyone else. I called Tom Cruise (owner of company) left a message on secretary's machine about how I had been treated and now it's almost two weeks later. I finally got a call back from Leroy in the tech department and he told me that Deab would be here yesterday to fix it and it was going to cost me $1,079 to fix it! They said it was $950 for the part and $100 in labor. Deab got here and it turned out the piece that was broken on my chair was just a 3 foot copper wire and some of the tips were broken off and they said I did it. I did not do this. the other wheelchairs I have had have lasted for 15-20years. I have had this chair for only 7 months and is "supposed" to be in full warranty for a year or more. This should not be this complicated and if they were a good company they would have fixed this immediately considering the warranty and the expensive equipment ($9,000 dollar chair) I have purchased.

He arrived with all necessary equipment in his truck. We walked through the bathrooms and he made suggestions. The work was completed quickly. He cleaned up after himself! The quote given was much less expensive than any other. This is all he does and he does it well.
