Wonderful! Mike is very easy to work with, knowledgeable and very responsive! Excellent work by his crew. We have used his company for over 13 years and couldn't be more pleased. We recommended him to four neighbors and would do so again.

At first it was good. Odd I did not get a bill for the first year. Reminded him of his neglect and then got it all at once. Not a huge problem. Issues really began with brush trimming around house. Gardeners were asked to keep shrubs away from home. It seems they go thru a great deal of turnover in personnel and there is little communication. Thus one year a palm shrub close to the home was not trimmed. Storms caused the palm to bang the house eventually putting a hole in the soffit and causing water damage. They cut down bush when requested upon our winter return but by then damage was done. Final straw was in asking Mike to recommend and install new plants in various beds. One bed was completed and instead of a "Mike Master Gardener recommended" dwarf variety of Firebush (about 2-4' tall)  we got the standard variety (about 8-14' tall) His response, "well we will just trim them". The other beds he just never got around to. Always seemed to come over when called but then no action after that. Finally switched primarily because he never did what he said he would do unless you hounded him. And then there was always an excuse and no action. My opinion, too many clients and not enough competent help. Final summary: Basic lawn care = average
Anything else= don't hold your breadth.

A little less than two weeks after installation, the ENTIRE area with the newly installed Zoysia grass started to appear brown, and looking as though it was not receiving enough water(this install was done the first week of May, which is the beginning of the long, sun filled hot days, yet without the daily rain showers in SWFL). The irrigation system was originally set at time of install to run twice per day, then had just been reduced to once per day, after about one week. When the brown grass started to appear, the irrigation system was once again placed back to the twice per day schedule, to compensate for the long sunny days without rain.
Well 16-days after the install, the entire newly sodded area was now 90% brown and appearing to be almost dead. A lawn fertilizer and pest control company was contacted, and they inspected the site the following business day. Their diagnoses was the newly sodded area was heavily infested with Army Worms, and several of the worms were picked from the new sod and displayed. They proceeded to spray the newly laid sod, as well as the rest of the yard, so they would not infest the other areas of existing Zoysia sod, not yet showing any signs of Web Worm damage.
Battista Farms was contacted to explain the problem/concerns, and they were told we would wait to see if and how this infested / damaged sod would recover, and if not, to decide what would be done next.
They called back, to say the grower who they purchased the Zoysia Sod from stated his sod was not infested, and the Army Worms must have come from the yard it was installed in. This yard had been treated previously, as a earlier installation of Zoysia sod from Battista Farms had suffered this same damage about six month earlier.
     A) Battista Farms claim of existing infestation appear incorrect. As if the yard was already undergoing treatment and preventative maintenance to prevent Army Worm, this could not be from a prior infestation.
    B) The St Augustine Sod removed for this installation of Zoysia showed NO signs of damage or pest infestation. SO the claim by Battista Farms cannot be true, as no prior damage to the removed sod was noted or pictured.
    C) Pictures of the newly installed Zoysia, at one place being right in between existing sod on both sides, clearly shows the existing sod in PERFECT health, and the newly installed Zoysia virtually dead from the Army Worm contained in the newly installed sod from 2 1/2 weeks prior.
I have requested Battista Farms to do the following:
    A) Pay the cost associated with the treatment for the newly installed Zoysia sod infested with Army Worm. This was $260
    B) Pay for the additional watering that was required, as a result of the extensive damage done to the newly installed Zoysia from the Army Worm. The irrigation had to be run twice a day and then again once a day, for almost a full month, before being reduced to the twice per eek regular schedule, once the sod recovered from the Army Worm infestation damage. $450-$500 of the $700 water bill from Island Water in Sanibel.
I am attaching pics of some of the damaged area. Take note in the pic, the green and very healthy Zoysia sod on both sides of the severely damaged NEW Zoysia installed less than one month earlier. If the Army Worms were coming from the existing sod, why is it so healthy?
I will post updates to this installation and possible change my recommendation of Battista Farms, depending upon how they choose to handle the additional costs associated with the infested Zoysia purchased thru them.

    Davidson Irrigation Inc
Davidson Irrigation provided me with some of the best customer service I have had in a very long time.  The technican was on time, very polite and - most importantly - very knowledgeable.  He located the leak in my system almost immediately.  The leak was the result of Island Water equiptment settling onto the pipe and cracking it.  He reconfigured the broken portion of the sprinkler system to ensure it would not be broken again by the Island Water meter and box.  He brought me down to explain the problem, wrote up some documentation on what he found and suggested I call Island Water to see if they will help cover the additional expense as the damage was their responsibility.  He tuned my the remainder of the system and ensured that my water scheduling complied with Sanibel regulations.
I am a very happy customer and will definitely use Davidson Irrigation again.

They are very good and do more than our last service.  A bit expensive.  You can talk to their crew and give them instructions.  They listen and actually do what you ask them to do.  At least for the moment.

They do a great job.  I pay them monthly.  We get a lot of compliments about our lawn.  They are very professional and the fellows that come out know what they are talking about.  They are responsive if you need something or if you don’t want something.  The pricing is fair and we are very happy with them.

    Blades Tree Service
It went very well overall, and exceeded our expectations.
We are planning to make other upgrades and changes to our front lawn, including sod installation, and are looking forward to working with BLADES on this project, as well.
A great service this company provides is taking photos after work has been done for e-mailing to owner who may be away for any extended period of time.

    Jesus Hernandez Landscaping & Design
We hired Jesus Hernandez after going through several different lawn maintenance companies.  At the time we hired him we explained that we wanted a company that provided exceptional customer service and communications.  Jesus assured us that customer service was his number 1 priority and that he would do whatever it took to make sure his clients were happy with his work.
Jesus Hernandez handled our monthly lawn service.  In addition, we hired him to do landscape design and installation on a project that cost around 12,000.  We were happy with the work that was done and, a few months later, recommended Jesus Hernandez to some new neighbors who were landscaping their entire property -- a job that was likely work more than $30,000.
The first sign of trouble came when Jesus failed to show up to begin work on our neighbors' lot on the date that was promised.  After Jesus failed to show for several days in a row, despite promises that his crew would be there "tomorrow," it was clear that our neighbors were at the breaking point.  We felt responsible because we had made the recommendation, and we gave Jesus the benefit of the doubt.  As a result, we called Jesus and gave him the heads up that if he didn't get a crew out to the neighbors' property, he would lose the job.  Jesus thanked us for the warning, and shortly dispatched his crew to the neighbors' lot.
A few months later, we desired to install a large bed in our front yard for a rose garden, along with some garden paths.  We contacted Jesus, who made two appointments to bid the job.  He failed to show up for either appointment and failed to apologize for leaving us waiting.  After the second failure to show, I sent Jesus an email to complain.  What follows is an exact transcript of a portion of our conversation:
ME:  It has now been three weeks since Alex indicated he informed you that we were interested in having some additional paths and garden spaces installed.  Today is the second time you have failed to show up after making arrangements to meet us to discuss a landscaping request.  This shows a complete lack of respect for our time.  If you cannot find the time to show up for the appointments you set, and if we cannot get the work we need done sometime in the coming week, we will find another landscaping company to do the work.
JESUS: I can go Monday in the PM. 2:00/3:00 Let me know if that Works. Also if you need anything extra done call the office482-7350 I don't see my guys everyday .Alex told me 2 weeks after the fact.I'm more than happy to do anything u need done.Thank you Jesus Hernandez.
ME:  Wrong answer.  An apology for wasting our time (twice) would have been appropriate. We've gone out of our way to recommend you for other jobs.  We understand you are busy, but it becomes a problem when you get too busy to keep appointments.I think it's best that we discontinue your services for everything.  Please let Alex know this is no reflection on him.
    JESUS:  No Problem
ME:  Still no apology.  Interesting.Unfortunately, word of mouth operates in two ways.  We will be certain to let others know.
JESUS:  No apology .I didn't do nothing wrong. So you do what ever you feel .
ME:  You (twice) made an appointment to meet clients and then didn't show.  The first time, you didn't bother to call at all and the second time you called an hour after the appointment time, after we wasted our time waiting around for you. You need to seriously reevaluate your idea of customer service.
JESUS:  Thank you .But I didn't ask you for your Opinion
We later heard from one of his employees that Jesus said, in response to our decision to terminate his services, "I'm not apologizing to her.  I've got a million dollar business.  I don't need those people."

We have a contract with them. They do high quality work. The owner is very responsive in checking back with us to make sure we are satisfied with the work that has been done.  We’ve been using them for 3 months. We will continue to use them.

    Felipe R Lawn Care Inc
We were referred to Filipe by our neighbor, also a new resident. He spent quite a lot of time going over all of the plants with us, showing us which should go and why, which were protected species, which would be very nice trees and shrubs after trimming. He did all of the work while we were in MN for the holidays, and it looked great when we returned!
