    He has multiple offices so was able to get in within a week. Staff was friendly and he was as well. I have a cataracts and huge floaters. He was not for rushing to surgery and told me the thin floaters should break up on their own. I like that approach. Later surgery would be an option if I wanted to pursue it. Great, great experience.

    Dr. Hockett was amazing. He discovered the problem within seconds and plucked out the nasty eye lash. He's personable and very open. My wife joined me in the examining room and decided she'll go to him for her own needs later. The cost for my services was a co-pay, so not everyone will pay that, of course.

    The technician was really nice; however, she had only been there for 2 weeks and did not come from a optometry background.  So, although she could use all the equipment, she was not able to answer any of my questions.

    The appointment went okay.  My head was spinning as perhaps they figured that I was a seasoned eyeglass wearer.  The exam was cold and impatient.  Like I was processed through.  I was particularly upset that they allowed the people who glasses in the front inside the examination room.

    The people from the front who sell glasses came in right after I was given the drops in my eyes (my first appointment used a new machine so they didn't have to use drops which dilate my eyes).  They then pulled me in the front and commenced with the hard-sell on frames and had me signing things I couldn't possibly see.  They became extremely rude and perturbed when I stated that I wanted to keep my current frames as I really liked them.

    I eventually received my glasses which were useless.  I can't see out of them. I did call SJEA and complained but they said I needed to give the glasses some time.  My previous Doctor and glasses were awesome right away.  I figured I would give up until I could go to another doctor again.

    I never followed up until my insurance, VSP, followed up with me some time later and I let loose.  VSP made it right with me.  That's what brought me here, I am looking for a new doctor.

    So, the visit was cold at best, the staff unknowledgeable and intimidating, the final product incorrect.  No, I wont use St Johns again.

    another Home Run !
    This was the 2nd and 3rd pair of frames that we sent to these people to replace old lens with new. The called me upon rcpt of the frames, addressed my concerns and provided replacement lens in a timely fashion.  This service throws a whole different light on acquiring frames and having lens put in them.

    We were continually upset with the pricing we were getting for replacing lenses in our existing frames ( progressive bi focals). We found "Replace a lens" on line and I decided to give them a try. They communicated well, called me with questions; actually refunded me $ 20.00 as I had priced the lenses too high and sent back my frames with new lenses in them. The lenses were great at a good price in a timely fashion. Both my wife and I have more existing frames that we like and want new lenses in and will be sending them to Replace a Lense soon. Good vendor ! Top marks.

    Dr. McDonald and his staff are great. I have been going there for a few years and have always had a pleasant experience. I showed up pretty early, maybe 20-30 minutes and surprisingly was seen right away. I have never waited more than 5-10 minutes in the lobby for a visit, even a last-minute emergency appointment. Dr. McDonald is very capable, friendly, and always willing to answer questions and explain treatment/procedure. I have not purchased glasses from there, but did buy some contact lenses. I would say the prices for these were high compared to online, but right around normal for eye doctors. Otherwise, the prices for treatment seem average, which leads to a great value when combined with the superb customer service. Definitely recommend!

    Turns out that I had Fuchs Syndrome a genetically inherited disease that shows up later in life. This was interesting because I will be the first in my family to have it. This was my first to Clay Eye Clinic and 30 seconds into the eye exam the Dr. announced that I was one in a million and that I had Fuchs. My previous eye Dr. in California (12 months before) had missed all signs or they had not shown up yet. He immediately referred me to one of his colleagues at the clinic who specializes in treatment. In the course of 7 months I received 2 cataract surgeries (preventative) and 2 partial cornea replacements. All surgeries went well and I have recovered most of my vision and it has been 3 months from the last surgery and my vision is still improving.

    Dr. Downer performed the surgeries and he was excellent to magnificent in the surgeries. Because my Fuchs was in the middle to advance stage there was not a lot of time for discussion about options, because there were no alternatives. The partial cornea replacement was a god send because it only required 1 stitch and was good to go after 4-5 days.

    Overall I am very satisfied with Dr. Downer and the staff and other Dr. at Clay Eye Clinic. I was especially pleased when Jacksonville Magazine came out and named Clay Eye Clinic and Dr. Downer one of the top Eye Dr. and Treatment Facilities in the Jacksonville area. I found them through Angie's list when selecting a Dr. under my medical plan.

    He is also an ophthalmologist but he chooses neurology. He is on it and I can’t beat him with a stick. He pays attention and he listens. When he was examining her, I could tell that he knew exactly how to manage her. Anybody that knows how to manage her is brilliant. He is topnotch. He has been very available for my mother so far. The office is nice. He is really good with bedside manner. His communication is perfect. I am sure whatever it is, he is going to be on it. I do know when I am seeing somebody that is worth seeing or not. My mother is a retired federal government employee and I am sure there isn’t going to be a problem with insurance and billing.

    We first met with Dr Levine in the last couple of weeks of 2011 as well as many other doctors in the surrounding area. we chose Levine and glad we did! He performed the surgery in Feb. 2012. Everything went exactly like he said it would. He provided us with his cell phone, called the night of the surgery, saw us the next day after the surgery, followed up with us again. He is a ROCK STAR at what he does and he is very humble about it. I can't say enough good things about him he has changed my life. His nurse Alexia is awesome too.
    I would highly recommend him or anyone else at his practice. We have seen almost everyone at Clay Eye they are all awesome.
