    Shutter & Blind Manufacturing

    On June 20, 2013, we had a salesperson come from Shutter & Blind Manufacturing, to our home. We wanted to put up blinds in the recently new construction portion of our home, which was for three rooms; a sunroom, a guest room, and a bathroom.  An acquaintance within our community had recommended them.

    The total price from Shutter & Blind was $1400.00. This included a lifetime warranty.  We signed the contract and within eight weeks our blinds were installed and looked fabulous. We were very happy, until we returned to our home in Florida from Maryland in 2015, and saw that many of the blinds in the sunroom were bowed, and noticeably so. The faux wood blinds that bowed were 38? to 40? wide. The 57? to 58? blinds were fine.  We had left our Air Conditioning running while we were gone, to keep the humidity and heat from being a problem in our home, so this was not even an issue.

    After calling the repair department in March 2015, an appointment was set up for Shutter & Blind Mfg., to look at the blinds:

    03/07/2015          The representative looked at the blinds. It was determined that the blinds did need repair. He took a picture and told us that we would get a call for when the affected blinds would be picked up.  He also determined that one of the blinds had been cut too short.

    03/23/2015         The blinds were picked for repair. We were told it would be about two weeks for completion. 

    04/10/2015          After calling about the status of our blinds, I was told it would be an additional 2 ? 2.5 weeks. Their reason was that they were having problems getting material.

    We received a phone call from Shutter & Blinds Mfg. that our blinds were complete, but they would not be returned for about 2 to 2.5 weeks.  They exceeded that timeframe. After waiting longer than the 2.5 weeks, I finally called our salesperson and explained to her what was happening. We then received our blinds shortly after that call.

    05/18/2015          The repaired blinds were returned. The slats in the blinds were now a range of different colors, and the slats were still bowed.  I called the repair office, and explained that the color of the slats on the blinds were different and did not match the other color within the same blind.  She responded by saying that the blinds that were not repaired had faded from the ones that were returned rebuilt. I explained to her again, and she repeated the same thing. I told her she was not listening. She said she wasn?t, and hung up on me.  After a few minutes to collect myself, I called back. She immediately put me through to the Office Manager, Kimberly, whom I had asked to talk with previously. She initially said the same thing as the person who answered the phone, but then she really did listen and she understood what I was saying about the blinds. She rescheduled a time for pickup of the blinds again. I explained to Kimberly how the first person was lacking professionalism.

    05/25/2015The blinds were again picked up. However, they did return one, (the one that had been cut too short). The rail was a dark brown, where the others were a light brown. We accepted that one, for fear if we sent it back, it would be even worse when it returned.

    We received a phone call from Shutter & Blinds Manufacturing that our blinds were complete, but they would not be returned for about 2 to 2.5 weeks.

    06/24/2015          I phoned Shutter & Blinds at this time. I believe I spoke to Jason. He said he would talk to the Production Manger about getting our blinds sooner and call us on 6/25. No one did. However, we did hear from someone (maybe Jason) on 6/29 that they would be here to return the repaired blinds on 6/30,  between 1-4 pm.

    06/30/2015          At 4:30 I called as no one showed. After I called, the delivery man called to say he was running behind and would be arrive in 45 ? 60 minutes. Finally our blinds were delivered between 5:15- 5:30 pm.  They were installed, and the man doing the job was very apologetic. He noticed when he was out before, that the material that covers the rails was never completed. They needed to be connected together by a piece of metal, which he had a supply with him, so he took care of finishing. He couldn?t believe that this was not done on the initial installation. Before leaving, he said he had to collect a check for $75.00, written out to Shutter & Blind Manufacturing. I asked him what would happen if we did not give him the check. He explained that our warranty would be voided without the money. We gave them the check. This was not in our contract that was signed on 06/20/13.

    The effect of all of this was:

    1. A greater AC bill for the time the blinds were gone. Our sunroom was much hotter than usual, even with the AC running.

    1.  It created a huge delay in our trip to Maryland.

    2. Not to mention the numerous scheduling times waiting for the taking and returning of the product, creating an unnecessary inconvenience.

    3. And having to pay $75.00 for a problem that was not of our own making.

    Mike was prompt in responding to my inquiry and able to schedule a visit quickly. The day of the quote he was timely, very courteous and professional. I had a tight deadline to get these items taken care of and he was able to accommodate me. Unfortunately I ended up having a conflict the day he was scheduled to come back, but I will call on Home Team again.

    When Nick first came out to help me get exactly what I needed, we made an appointment to have the work done.  Nick showed up on time did an outstanding job and charged me $25.00 less than the  original estimate.  He also hung some blinds for me a couple years ago, so happy that I remembered and used him again.  I have some upcoming project coming up and Nick is the man that I will be calling.  I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone and this is something that I usually don't feel good doing.

    Gotcha Covered Of South Shore
    Our company owner had decided to remove the colored vinyl sheets from our office windows and have them replaced with 
    solar shades. I called three companies and arranged for estimates.
    The owner of Gotcha Covered, Clifford Oberg, arrived on schedule and brought his samples with him.  We discussed what  we had in mind.
    He showed me the samples that he thought would best service our needs, explaining what each product did and suggested
     the solar shade he thought would work best for our office.  He was very prompt on providing his estimate.
    I chose his company based on fair price, professionalism and ease of interaction.  Our shades arrived when promised and Mr. Olberg installed the shades himself. He even went so far as to bring in extra help to move my HUGE desk/counter so that the shade on that window would hang perfectly straight. 
    I was very pleased with the job and recommended him to our other offices.

    Clifford Olberg was very prompt in returning my call for an estimate.  We made an appointment and he arrived on time.   
    Mr.Olberg brings his samples with him. so I did not have to leave the office to make choices. He took time to explain the different
    products available - what each type of blind or shade did. Some looked nicer and some blocked more sun and heat and his suggestions were very knowledgeable and helpful. He took my comments and sent me a complete breakdown with estimates for each product we reviewed.  
    After reviewing the three different estimates (three companies) I chose Gotcha Covered.
    Our shades were delivered within the two weeks promised, and Mr. Olberg installed them himself.  He even came back with extra help and moved my HUGE desk/counter 4 inches away from the window so that the shades would hang smoothly to the floor.

    Met with the Owner at the job site in Sun City Center, 4 months ahead of intstallation and she demostrated some neat features of the shutters that we were unaware of, and provided an estimate. We ordered these 30 to 45 days ahead of our move and provided the shades of paint that we wanted in each room.   About a week ahead of the installation they confirmed the date and time. 
    On the installation day, they arrived on time, installed the shutters, demonstrated the correct way to open them, and left some spare slats and touch-up paint.  The were very professional and I would recommend them to anyone that would like a great shutter installed correctly.

    The Louver Shop of St. Pete
    Several years ago, we had a number of solid wood plantation shutters installed by this same company and the vendor, Kenny DeRose. We have been extremely happy with the work and the product.
    When we decided to install the shutters on additional windows, we called a number of companies, including Kenny's. Only one other company responded, and that one did not provide wood shutters. We ended up with The Louver Shop again.
    Two of the windows are very large--about 9 feet wide and very tall. One of them is at the end of a room where we already had the wood shutters. It was important to us that we get a consistent look, and that the shutters operate well.
    When Kenny came on August 19, he explained to us that the company had been bought by a larger company, the quality is somewhat better, and is made in the US. Our first shutters took about 8 weeks to get here. These took about 3 weeks.
    Kenny installed the new shutters today. There is very little visually noticeable difference, so the look is wonderful. We are very pleased!
