Anderson's Custom Concrete & Pavers LLC
I had an appointment for 10:30am scheduled days ago. It's now 10:53 and they are a no-show. Called and the phone just kept ringing. No call, no cancellation. I will not be using them as a contractor. Completely unprofessional.

Grade: A+. Larry Hall, the company owner visited with us twice to assess the job and review his proposal. He is always polite, professional, very knowledgeable and communicates frequently. We agreed to a price and a start date. Larry's men began work on the promised start date. Demolition work was done by Eric using a skid steer loader. He is nothing short of a maestro with it, Our driveway was two inches thicker than anticipated but Eric dealt with it with ease. One area of our driveway was 12 inches thick (an unexpected surprise) which broke Eric's equipment but he had it repaired and was back on the job in a few hours. Of special note was the concern shown by Eric for our sprinkler heads which sit inches from the driveway. The demo work generates large amounts of broken concrete which were deposited in dumpsters delivered by Tim from Express Roll Off. Another highly qualified professional who showed great concern for our lawn and sprinkler heads. Tim also delivered the crushed concrete which forms the base for the new driveway. He took special care to ensure the loads did not spread out into our grass as they were dumped. Following demo work, the pavers were delivered in increments over three days. The lift vehicle used has to drive on the lawn but it has wide tires so no damage resulted and the drivers were very attentive to our sprinkler heads. Larry's crew showed up and did a beautiful job of installing our pavers and edgers. Had two small issues. Rain-hey it's Florida, and they ran short of edgers which delayed completion for a couple of days until an additional amount was delivered and set. The work is just a pleasure to look out. Perfectly straight lines, symmetrical curves and exquisite attention to detail. Throughout the job Larry's two assistants, Dylan and David appeared as needed and handled the irrigation pipe issues, did some concrete cutting work, removed excess pavers to keep our lawn from developing patches, cleaned the job site (immaculately), laid some sod along the driveway edges and tore out and replaced a small patch of concrete. Polite, capable and thorough are good descriptors of them and the work they did. We are very pleased with the quality of the work done, the price and the professionalism of everyone on the job site and especially with Larry. He understands the most important thing for a good contractor-communication. He was on the job every day and communicated by phone and text to answers questions and keep us informed of what was going to happen each day. Lessons learned: 1. Mark the sprinkler heads with surveyor flags. I did this ahead of time and it worked wonderfully. If the workers know where they are they will diligently avoid them and any damage that could result. 2. Quality Paver Services was the only company that included irrigation repair and sod installation as part of the job. Other bidders stated this will be billed as extras to the contract.

I love the way my porch and pool look.  They worked well with me, listening to my input and offering their expertise.  Together, we came up with a perfect look.  They were professional and called everytime they were on their way.  They kept me informed on every step of the process.  I am very happy with the result!

    Advance Contracting Services
Our existing master bathroom with walk-in shower was completely gutted and rebuilt from scratch.  The demolition work started as scheduled and was completed is about 1.5 days.  New concrete wall board was placed in the shower stall and the shower drain was moved from near the front of the shower floor to the middle of the shower floor.  This required some jack hammering of the existing concrete slab in the shower.  The shower outlet pipe was also raised about 8 inches.
Sub-contractors were used for the plumbing work and the tile work.  New tile was installed on the bathroom floor, shower floor and shower walls.
I had to purchase all require materials to be installed including; tile, tile grout, vanity cabinets, vanity top, toilet, shower valve, sink valves, floor molding, etc.  The only material that I did not purchase was the thinset for the tiles.
Overall the job went very well.  Ken was very good in providing job status and time of day that work would start.  If he or a sub was going to be a little late he always let me know.
The entire job took 2.5 weeks which was pretty close to the estimate provided at the beginning of the job.
The bathroom came out great with no issues to date.

    Housman's Aluminum & Screening Inc
The overall finished product is very nice. The process to get there was Not. Signed contract July 16th. Called Mark at Hausmans the end of August to see what happened. They said, just received permits from city. Started the job on Sept 4th. Was told about 2 weeks to finish. Finished on Oct 9th and made final payment. Concrete framing and pour went good, but left a big mess all over the house on three walls. My husband and I had to clean it up and repaint the three walls. Concrete was slopped up the walls 12 inches with hand prints and smudges all the way up to the windows. Old screen was ripped out without thought and we were left with holes and missing paint down to stucco. (Which we were left to repair) After the next day rain, we had several low areas that had to be patched. Mark was very apologetic and fixed it the next day. Paul added decorative acrylic and paint over the concrete and it looks Great. Paul also made sure the area was completely cleaned and even wiped down the kick plates. Very Pleased with his work!!
A lot of small problems made the job drag out so long, but were corrected in the end.
Mark really seems to want to do a great job and make the customer happy, but needs to control his employees better.

    CREATIVE CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION LLC
His workmanship was sloppy, he drove a stake into my sprinkler lines and acted as though it wasn't his mistake.  The concrete was laid out wrong.  instead of sloping the concrete away from the existing slab, he sloped it into it, so that my pool screen doors scrape when opening.  The sidewalk was not put in to follow the land grade so now I have drainage problems when it rains heavily.  He used the wrong material to shape curves and left jagged edges.  There are low spots in every part of the concrete that form puddles when wet.  He is unreliable.  He said he would show up in the morning, he showed up after 1:00 pm.  And now he's stated he wants out of the contract and because we paid him so he could get the materials to work on the driveway, he is trying to keep all of the money and has come up with a bill that way overcharges us for the poor work he has done.  The original estimate was for $3,250.00 broken down into three payments.  He stated that if we only wanted the driveway and sidewalks at the front of the house resurfaced, it would be  $1,700.00. That leaves $1,550.00 for the concrete work.  So far we have paid him $2,166.00 and he has left me with problems, and won't answer the phone, or return any messages.  He was e-mailing, but he even stopped doing that. PLEASE heed this warning.  This man is not a professional, he shouldn't be doing this kind of work and he will take your money and run.  Out of the money he took he offered to give back $125.00, and after I sent him back an e-mail outlining all of the work that I had to do because he left things undone and damaged, (sprinklers, concrete too high at doorways at pool screen),but he won't return any correspondence now.  This man should never be trusted.  Take your business elsewhere.  If you have given a check, stop payment!  For us James Gabbard has proven to be a dishonest man.

    Marlo Design & Construction Inc
The remodel started off fine.  The new garage went up quickly.  However after that, the entire process became a fiasco.  The quality of the work was subpar.  The laminate floor that was installed has bubble up in multiple areas.  The first area that bubbled up was glued down by the contractor.  Now there are multiple other areas are bubbling up.  The cabinets in the kitchen were installed poorly and are now beginning to separate from the wall.  During the construction, the gutter system on the outside of the house was destroyed.  The contractor stated that it would be extra to replace the gutters.  The contractor forgot to include a water line in the kitchen for the refrigerator and a vent for the dryer in the laundry room.  There are other problems that are too numerous to count.  The work remains unfinished 9 months after it was started.
The biggest issue that I am now having is that the contractor has not paid his subcontractors.  I have had to pay outstanding balances from the pool, septic system and electrical subcontractors because the contractor was not paying them.  The subcontractors were not returning to complete work.  The contractor was blaming the subcontractors.  However, when I contacted several subcontractors, I discovered that they were not returning because they were not being paid.  I had 3 liens on my property that I had to clear up because of unpaid bills.
I have had to contact a lawyer to help me get rid of the contractor and attempt to recoup some of the money that I have lost in the process.
If Lorenzo Toney or anyone from Marlo Designs comes near your property you should send them away immediately.

    Ed's Concrete & Stucco Inc
I contacted Ed's Concrete based on reviews from Angie's List.  I made an appointment with Ed's concrete to provide an estimate on a driveway for my home.  I took the afternoon off so that I could meet with a representative from the company but no one ever showed up.  I did not receive a call to reschedule the appoint nor an explanation why the person never showed up.
I can't give the company a grade because no one ever showed up.  The company may be great at what they do, but not showing up for an appointment without calling to notify the other party is not acceptable in my book.

Tommy was the third person I contacted to get a quote on the renovation of my house.  When my family first met him, we liked him immediately.  He listened to what we wanted and gave us his input.  We could tell he was a honest man, trust worthy and an expert in his line of business.  Tommy proved to us immediately that our first impressions of him were correct.  He was able to get the best at the lowest price for his customers.  The cabinets, granite and flooring were high end and the best quality.  The original quote was $43,000.  After the job started, I increased the scope of work to include things like widening the Master bath door, painting the exterior, installing hurricane shutters, and screening in the front porch.  All his price adjustments for these extra jobs were reasonable. He and his employees were very efficient and finished the job in the original scope of time, even with the additional requirements.  I had my neighbors tell me that somebody was there every day and they often said that we picked a good contractor!  He was very good at returning emails and texts.  I was very picky (as one should be) about how my house looked and how the work was done.  Anything I had a problem with was addressed quickly. I would (and have) recommend Tommy McDonald to my friends and anybody who reads this.  Choosing him to be our contractor was, by far, the best decision my family and I made.  During the middle of this renovation, I asked Tommy if he could do some upgrades to the house I just bought before I moved in.  If I wasn't happy with Tommy's work on this renovation, I would have never asked him!

The cement work he did was fine. The deck work he did was not. You are supposed to use a certain type of paint and it isn't supposed to be slippery. The first time he did the job it was slippery, he came to redo it (after arguing with him to get him back out) and it wasn't slippery after that. Now it peels. It now peels just from walking on it. It is twice as bad after the second time he came out.
