  • Called to schedule appt for estimate. Then i called to confirm time of appointment and the receptionist said she had no record of an appointment. She then later said she found the appointment and that it was two weeks later than the initial scheduled appointment

  • As I was able to have it done, John Cox completely renovated the interior of my home. He started by re-doing a bathroom project where I had been ripped off. I had not done my due diligence. John saved the day. The bathroom now looks like a spa. I called him back to do various projects. Ultimately, he gutted and changed the footprint of the kitchen. It is gorgeous. He gutted another bathroom and built crown molding throughout the house. The latest project was replacing carpeting, old slate, old tile and damaged laminate. I now have beautiful barn board tile planks throughout. The workmanship is impeccable and the cost was very reasonable. Not only is John a talented craftsman, he is a principled person. He always made sure any leftover materials were returned to the vendor, so I would receive a credit. Who does that?

  • AMAZING! We were so impressed with this company - from start to finish, they are true professionals and we couldn't be happier with our pool. When Marty came to look at the job and give us an estimate, he was courteous, respectful and above all he knows pools. He gave us recommendations on what would work best and helped us make design decisions. After signing the contract, he was quick to answer questions and worked with us as we made changes and additions to the original plan. They kept us in the loop via email and phone calls. They called to confirm when they would start and always arrived on time. The crew worked so incredibly well together - it was like a well-oiled machine! Marcus, the foreman, was beyond professional. Arriving early, staying late, making sure everything was being done correctly and that the job site was left clean after everyone left every day. Communication was excellent. There were never any surprises and the end result.......BEAUTIFUL! Every time we are in our pool we feel like we are in a resort. It came out THAT great. It has been almost 6 months and we LOVE OUR POOL. Thank you Marty, Marcus and all the great members of Blue Horizons Pool & Spas. You rock!

  • I had received four estimates for this project, which included repairing some rotted wood, and repainting my decks. Although Jaco's estimate was the highest of the four, I was impressed by his knowledge and professionalism, and decided to hire him for the job. I'm so glad that I did!!! Although I was out-of-town during the time that he worked, he stayed in contact with me to let me know how the job was progressing. When I returned from my trip, I was pleasantly surprised to find out what an excellent job that he had done. He later returned to do some touch-up work, and I am definitely pleased with the results. THANK YOU, JACO!!!!!! YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1.  Mr. Sousa was scheduled to be at my home at 10:00am, He arrived at 10:40 and did not call to let me know he was running late
    2.  Exchange of the under counter light did not go well.  Somehow the wiring was not done correctly resulting in none of my under-counter fixtures (even those on the other side of the room) functioning.  Mr Sousa advised me that he had to leave without fixing/completing the job, as he had to go out of town until the following Tuesday.  The wall light switch on that side of the room was left hanging out of the wall and the fixture was not secured and there were wires exposed and hanging down.  As I rely quite heavily on these lights as task lights this was inconvenient to say the least.  I was uncertain whether or not Mr. Sousa had the necessary knowledge to identify the problem and repair it safely.  I had someone else (a licensed electrician and friend of mine) come out to do the repair at a cost to me of $40.00.
    3.  The power washing was pretty much OK but when attempting to remove a spray nozzle from one of the hoses in order to attach it  to the power wash machine, somehow the nozzle got cross threaded and would not come off.  It was then impossible to remove and I had to cut the end of the hose off and purchase and install a repair kit  in order to be able to use the hose.  This hose happened to be a specially purchased very light weight hose and I could not afford to just discard it.
    4.  The hanging of the mirror was almost successful.  It is slightly off level, but  I can possibly "tweak" it get it to level.  (At least I THINK I can.)  I shall try.
5.The painting and installation of the outdoor shelf and the hanging of the soil sieve were successful as was the fixing of the bathroom towel bar.
    6.  The first part of fixing the floor gaps is satisfactory, but it needs to be completed and stained to match the floor.
The additional items on the contract are:  Securing with cement a cedar arbor at the front entryway,  installing a pet-door in the screen porch, securing with cement a bird feeder/hanging plant support stake,  finishing the installation of pavers to the cement pad and securing the west arbor to the pavers, also finishing the wood floor repair..
Mr. Sousa spent time after his arrival looking over the list of items I wanted to have addressed.  He worked on the items discussed above..  As previously stated he advised me early on that he would be able to work some on that day (a Wednesday), but then he had to leave to take care of urgent business in Atlanta and would not be able to return until the following Tuesday,  March 29.  After the list was compiled he stated that he could give me a reduced "contract price"  for these items instead of an hourly rate and that it would be guaranteed regardless of the time necessary for completion.  This, I agreed to; he asked for a $50.00 deposit on this work, which I gave him.    The job of pressure washing the house was added after the pressure washing of the pad and pavers for securing the west side arbor.  It was then added to the contract and a price of $140.00 added.  Before leaving he asked me for an additional $300.00 payment which I gave him.  At this point he has received from me a total of $552.57, which includes the $139.00 deal purchased through Angies List and the price of the materials from Home Depot.  If one also added the cost of the electrical repair and the hose repair the cost to me has been $592.57.
He did not return on Tuesday, nor did he call.  I tried to reach him by phone with no success.  I then called Angies List to register a complaint.  I did continue to try reaching him by telephone.,and at  7:11  pm, I was finally successful. He advised me he was still in Georgia at a nephew's birthday party and was not planning on returning until Thursday.  He did briefly apologize for not at least calling me to let me know.  When I mentioned that I had given him what, for me,was a large amount of money, he merely said that he would not risk his professional reputation for "a few hundred dollars".  This was not very comforting.  He further stated that he would be back at my home on Thursday to finish the work, probably around 11:00 am.  It is now 9:20 pm on Friday, April 1st and I have not heard from him.  This is totally unacceptable, and I feel that I have been a victim of fraud and theft.  Since this is why I have subscribed to Angies list, to feel secure in hiring workman, I feel doubly victimized.  Especially as had I relied on his return to be able to use my under counter lights in the kitchen, I would now have been without them for over 10 days. And living in a possibly hazardous situation.  As he took some of the purchased materials to his home, notably the concrete, I cannot even try to find someone else to do those jobs without having to purchase the materials again.
Throughout this disappointing process, I feel Mr. Sousa's attitude has been rather cavalier and unconcerned.  He seemed to think  that he and his co-worker could complete the entire contract  in that first day.  He even stated something to that effect.  Much as I would like to have believed it, I found it difficult.  Even on the one subsequent telephone call he didn't seem too concerned about the effect his absence and failure to communicate his intentions was having.  I am retired and on a fixed income; it is not easy for me to save up monies necessary to have this type of work done, and it takes some time.  Now I must start over.

  • Mr. Culver has the ability to implement and carry out job tasks set forth by the contractor. He always was on time, and did the work to the high standard I expected. He is responsible and respectful of not only the Contractor, but other subs on the site as well. His kind demeanor is an asset when working with homeowners. Change orders for Mr. Culver are always " no problem!". He is honest and hard working.
Mr. Culver moved to North Catolina a couple of years ago. If he had not, I am confident he would still be working on my various jobs.

  • During the estimate, we were provided with options to address the problems we wanted fixed. No other company did that.
Arrived a scheduled, set up and went to work. Very systematic and professional. Answered any questions I had. Very neat and kept the work area clean. Most surprising was the was the inspection by a company rep after the job was completed. He found a few things requiring correction, which were taken care of in less than a week.

  • Well, since this provider never bothered to return my phone calls or respond to emails, it did not go well.
At least this provider gave me an idea as how responsive he would have been had he been hired, so it's just as well.
Fortunately, there were several other companies that were more than willing to contact me, and I'll never have to bother with this one again.

  • Greg arrived as scheduled to provide the quote and seemed professional. I liked the fact that he was the only company I interviewed who would do their own concrete work. The other companies specified that the work would be contracted out (that was OK) and they would no be responsible for the quality of that work (not OK.) I should have known better.
They had dirt hauled in and built up the area for the slab which surprised me. That wasn't specified in the contract and left very little slope if any to the slab. On the day of the concrete pour, I heard the crew yelling "Water!" It seemed that the concrete was setting up faster than they could handle and they dragged out one of my hoses to wet it down. The crew left - the owner Greg had not been on site. Half an hour later it began to rain hard. Knowing that rain would be pouring off the roof because they had removed the gutters, I ran outside and threw down some flattened moving boxes to absorb some of the impact. The crew did not return until the next day and the slab was a mess. They brought out a grinder to try to grind down some of the unevenness but the slab surface was still wavy and uneven. As it dried it began to crack badly. I realized that I could not tile it as planned and eventually had to use concrete pavers to cover the cracking and unevenness.
The aluminum porch went up without incident, although there are empty screw holes on one door frame where they must have mounted one of the doors incorrectly and had to re-hang it. Some time later when we began to get heavy rains the gutters overflowed and caused the porch roof to leak. I called several times before I could reach Greg and he promised to send someone out to fix the gutters and also to fix the door latches that did not work. They never arrived. After repeated phone calls I finally reached Greg and he said that his crew came out and no one was home. Turns out that I was home the whole day and no note was ever left at my door to indicate that someone had come by.
I finally gave up on this company. I used some washers as shims to fix the door latches and I called Ted and Bob's Aluminum Construction about the gutters. They were great. They came out, corrected the problem and added two additional downspouts. The roof still leaks where it attaches to the house; I suspect this is because it should have had more slope.
