Hardware Store reviews in Parkland

We decided to hire Lowe's to install hurricane shutters in June, on August 18th we received an e-mail that the shutters arrived at the store. Come September with the news that a massive hurricane is heading our way I am told the installers are too busy and will not be able to install prior to the hurricane, we had to spend close to $1,000 to protect the house after paying over $12,000 to purchase the shutters. After many visits to the store and trying to talk to the store manager (unsuccessfully), they give us a date for installation at the end of September. One of the pieces was the wrong size so they had to come back several weeks later. Fast forward to the end of February we still do not have the final OK from the city as the inspection failed for 2 violations. After almost six months since installation I still have not been able to talk to the store manager as he refuses to call me and he is never available at the store when I go look for him. Long story short, DO NOT EVER use Lowe's for a home improvement project, once they get your money in advance they do no care about you.

A+++!  Lynn Fisher - daughter of Barb Corrigan.  We contracted ASP to install impact windows and doors throughout our home.  This was a significant project, and therefore we spoke with 5 different companies regarding product and pricing.  ASP was easily the most competitvely priced, and in some cases they were 45% cheaper than their competitors - for the EXACT same product!  They were knowlegeable about both vinyl and aluminum impact glass products - we selected vinyl CWS for our home.
But price was only 1 concern, effective installation was another major factor in our decision to go with ASP.  We researched all of the companies we got price quotes from, and ASP was the only company that had consistent A ratings on Angie's List - especially in regard to quality of installation.  All of the others were B or lower.
They proved that their vast number of A ratings were valid!   Frank and the installation crew did a GREAT job!  They were conscientious, professional and attentive to detail!  They made sure to cover ALL of our furniture, throughl vacuumed when they were drilling to eliminate dust, and cleaned up after themselves at every opening!
19 year old windows aren't easy to remove, and they were diligent and careful.   A prior contractor had installed a door incorrectly, and ASP made sure to install our new impact door properly in the center of the block, and then made sure to find a solution for the gap that the other contractor had created by installing the door in the wrong place.  They went above and beyond!
Don't fall for the impact glass sales scams in the marketplace.! "Lifetime Warranties" are just an excuse to double the price to the homeowner.  I would rather go with a competitively priced company like ASP and pay for a single window or door that is damaged in a hurricane down the road instead of paying DOUBLE for the entire house!  Get a bottom line price from ASP for quality products and a great installation!

Everything went fine until installation. Good price, good product and very professional service. But then installation day came. I ordered installalation well far in advanced, however only the morning they were coming, they discovered a problem with one of the shutters that needed to be corrected. They promptly phoned but they kept pushing the schedule back and back. They finally showed up late in the afternoon, when a storm was approaching. You could see them hurrying up thru everything and running to the garage everytime the rain got bad. I checked on them in the garage once and there were playing with my daughter's scooter, really? They went back to work and managed to finish installation.I found many, probably only cosmetic flaws, but when you have to look at the shutters every single day, I find that important. The caulking job would have been better done by my 7 year old, uneven, holes, chunks of caulk, you name it. The screws used to secure the accordion to the main frame were in different directions; there are gaps and slight bending on the sides, they said it was normal...well I have hurricane shutters on the second floor and none looks like this (I wish I could upload pictures). I checked everything I could but it was getting late and dark. Next morning, I reviewed all again, i found two screws missing in one shutter(I installed them myself), and plastic and screws all over my patio and lawn. They shutters look sturdy and hopefully we'll installed to resist a hurricane, but the finishing touches are missing.

It was very close to my house which was good for me. The staff is friendly and at times there is not enough staff. Sometimes you have to walk around and find someone, but once you find them they will assist you.

Chainsaw would run for 15 seconds then shut off.  I've been to a LOT of small engine repair places, and most are rip offs.  But Green Thumb is a BIG place ... they work on thousands at a time.  They just did a 'standard service' on the chainsaw and cleaned it and tuned it up.  Now runs perfect.  None of this 'You must pay prior' or need whole new carb or other BS.  Great place.

I did the work myself because the amount of work was minimal and there would have been an extra charge because the minimum work they do is about $500 or more. The staff was good and helpful. My neighbor had a similar situation and he told me that he got the asphalt from them and he told me what to do once I got it. I will definitely use them again.

The cabinets were of good quality wood.  I was later told that workers had not worked with this material and that is why there was so much damage to the cabinets, not scratches but everytime there needed to be a hole (microwave, dishwasher, sink plumbing) the cabinets were destroyed and they refused to replaced them.I was supposed to get granite (i only knew of real granite).  Turns out they sell processed granite that is sold in long rectangular slabs (which is absolutely cheap), it means that if you have any corner, they plan to have a 45 degree seam.  They are very careful in putting the word "countertop" in the contract that way you have no way of arguing the fact that you didn't get what you thought you were paying for.  Granite or not they gave you a "countertop" and unless you take it to court you are out of luck.  I did end up paying an additional $1200 to get real granite through another company, that separate company did a good job.The backsplash was done by a separate handyman (contractor) who also did a godd job.
In summary, people outside of the company did a good job.  However, the people they have doing the cabinets who seem to be their direct employees of the company are just not qualified.  There is no way they have licenses because the work is too bad to be acceptable by a government entity.
There is no supervision of the work being done.  Getting the sales people to get to see the work is almost impossible.  They did see it but have to this day done nothing about it.

I called during the summer and made an appt for an estimate. No one arrived on the day they promised. The next day a salesman came over from "FLOORING". He did not know about AC but didn't want to leave me waiting. I told him to call his office and reschedule. I signed a contract a few weeks later. The installation crew came late and didn't have time to show me how to use the Thermostat. Since then I have been unable to reach anyone at sears. I've called every office from Pompano to Illinois and all I get is recordings. One manager's recording says she'll be back from vacation on Nov 26th. This was on Dec 5th!!! I used Sears because I thought they were reliable. It turns out they are indeed a fly by night, unprofessional operation with a bleak future. The most recent update on this issue is that the A/C unit failed the city inspection. The air conditioning unit Sears installed FAILED the inspection by the City of Coral Springs. The unit installed was NOT the same as the one on the permit! Inspection violation available if you want to see it. Michael Singer
