    ABC Cleaning Inc
Issues: Just after having a new roof installed, called ABC for estimate to replace the cap. Tech told me the "safety liner" was disconnected in a manner like it was alarming. In addition to estimate of $239.00 for the cap, added $125 to connect the liner. I agreed at the time because if this was for safety, of course I did not want a fire. Suspicious by the way the tech brought this to light. Right out of the box, it was like he looked for it and then alarmed me. At the install I asked him to take photos of the liner on my phone before any work was done. He ignored me, went on the roof and when I asked again, he said he took photos on his phone. Suspicious... Then said liner was done (about 5 minutes). At the end he admitted it only took 5 minutes for a charge of $125. The simple task was to close a snap lock, like buckling a belt. Reconnecting the liner had to be done in order to complete the job of installing the cap. Tech was cavalier at the end knowing there was nothing I could do. Called their office to complain, owner Ed called back. Conversation did not go well. My opinion was that he was gruff and condescending and it raised my ire rather than solve the problem. I do not want anyone else to get ripped off like I did. I was not in a position to look into the chimney to see if it was disconnected. Suspicious that it was the very first thing the tech said to me. Suspicious that he would not take photos on my phone. Suspicious that i had no way to know that the photos he sent to me by text were of my chimney. Suspicious that the owner tried to make it sound like this guy spent 45 minutes at my house to snap the lock? The tech took out the old cap which was attached to the inner pipe and the new metal cover installed by the roofer, Took the cap down to ground and removed it from the inner pipe. Took pipe and new cap back on roof and installed along with metal cover. The inner pipe fits inside the safety liner pipe and is kept in place by the snap lock. This is what took 45 minutes.

    5-Star Clean Inc
First this guy/company should be removed from Angie's List. I called for a chimney inspection and asked for a quote because we moved into a house that has one and we haven't used it yet and thought to be better safe than sorry before using it. He said he couldn't quote it but it would be between $300-$400 but according to his reviews the price was from $150 and on up. I told him this and he replied that others can charge less but he can guaranty his work, I then told him the prices were from his reviews and then he said that he didn't know who wrote the reviews and how old they are and that he doesn't post prices. He became defensive and argumentative and I told him that I was just calling around and was going by his reviews and that I was just checking companies out but I can call someone else, he said fine and hung up. I guess he doesn't need the business or Angie's List.

    JDWhite Custom Painting
This all started over a year and a half ago. They started by pressure washing the house and taping off the windows and trim. They painted the wood on the front and the block stucco on the sides and the back, except on the area where the screened in porch is. With this initial contact he informed me of needing to replace some rotted wood on the right side and chimney before repainting. I agreed to pay the additional amount for this work, and cut him a check for $1,500 which was just the first installment, the rest was due at the time of completion. He later then came to me and said he did not have the money for the wood and needed the additional $600, so I paid him.

He bunched up a tarp and threw it up over the chimney with 2x4's laid over it. He said he was working on getting a carpenter to fix this. About a month later, my brother had since moved into the house and it had became the rainy season, he noticed water flowing heavily in down the chimney and informed me. I hurried to the hardware store and purchased a large tarp to recover myself. I contacted Dan and informed him of this issue and he said his carpenter quit and asked me if I could get one. I told him I would look into it. His reply was that he did not care if cost $1,000 he was going to get me the money back I already paid him for this job.

I have now paid out of pocket $2039 to get my chimney properly repaired by a different company, on top of all the money I have paid to Dan for no work done.

He has continued to put me on a run around about finishing any of the painting or any of the wood replacement on the side of the house. The only project he started was taking the chimney apart. I have tried multiple times to ask when he will complete this work, his latest reply was that him and his wife made a commitment that they no longer work on Sundays. I have still yet to see any of my money back either. Yesterday he text me, "I am sorry but you will have to get someone else to finish painting. I will have a check in the mail for $500 next week to get you started then I'll pay what the remainder of what it cost to finish. This is the 6th person I have hired to paint your house and again he took off with my money and didn't work. I don't know what's going on but I do apologize." This is the first time I have heard of him hiring anyone outside of himself to perform the tasks, he always had a personal excuse when he did not show up.

    AGAPE CHIMNEY SWEEP

Jed was quite thorough and explained his findings well. He was within the timeframe he gave, and called to say how soon he would be there. Everything was clean and well done. We would recommend Agape Chimney Sweep to others.

    Advantage Roofing Inc
Anthony was very responsive.  Extremely positive and personable - he went into the attic to locate the source of the leak and was able to recommend the right repair.  The repairs took two days due to weather, but they showed up when they said and completedthe work.  He was conscientious and made sure I approved of the shingle match as our roof was slightly faded and he was concerned that the new shingles would match.

    Aabrams Chimneys LLC
Bernard was very prompt.  It only took him about 20 minutes to complete.  The only part I was disappointed with was the mess left behind.  There was a trail of dryer lint from walking through what came out of the vent and a hand print on the wall.  Thankfully it all cleaned up just fine, but not what I was expecting when I went into my laundry room.  Overall, Bernard did a good job and I will be calling on them again in the future.
