Overall, the job went very well. The workers were prompt, courteous, cheerful, neat, and quite responsive, diligent, and conscientious. Our largest problem was in trying to achieve a color match for the concrete lanai and patio floors. We had a very specific color of paint in mind (grass-colored chosen over the course of a year watching grass, believe it or not). However, the color was chosen from an interior color sample from a paint manufacturer, so an additive was going to be needed for the paint to be used on outside concrete. For whatever reason (the particular store employee, the particular store, or whatever . . . ), the paint that was prepared wasn't even close to the sample. (Yes, we let a trial strip dry on our concrete before deciding.) We regrettably felt an acceptance by our workers who picked up the paint that this is the best that they ( the paint suppliers) can do. (We didn't want to accept that; we expected more of them.) After much frustration overnight in trying to talk ourselves into accepting what we really didn't want, we got in our car first thing in the morning, drove to another paint supplier (NOT the one whose color swatch we had selected), handed the employee there our color swatch, and walked out with 6 gallons of an outstanding color match first try!!! Boy, was that a lesson learned! Boy, are we happy that we didn't succumb to the subtle but obvious pressure! We are VERY HAPPY with the results! The quality of the work in applying this beautiful paint to the large area of our lanai and patio was excellent. There were a few problems with language (the usual amount of pretending to understand a question, waiting for the customer to supply a possible answer, and then agreeing when they shouldn't have)--typical when English is the second language of workers and typical when one is reluctant to say "I don't know". However, the language problem was alleviated by the boss showing up for his normal visitations in time. The only other complaint--a mild one--was that our workers failed to "texture" our concrete patches. When the paint dried on them, the patches appeared to be small spots of wet concrete.

Chad started out easy enough to work with and appeared to know what he was doing. He went through our new home critiquing things and telling us what needed to be done, in addition to the items we contracted him about.

The first and biggest item on our list was finishing  the kitchen cabinets and the vent fan switch.  Chad indicated that he could do anything as he had built houses in the past. The vent fan switch as well as the wood for the cabinet needed to be ordered.  Upon discussions with Chad, I placed the order for the vent fan switch with the manufacturing company. Chad procrastinated significantly on ordering the wood for the cabinet.  He finally gave me the specifications to take to Lowes to place a "custom order".

The fan switch arrived first.  I received a call from Chad saying that it was too big a job for him. I then had to find someone else to install "the already paid for" fan switch.

Just prior to the cabinet material arriving from Lowes, Chad had some difficulty in finding time to come back to our home to finish work.  He indicated that he had a lot of work going  on.  He also indicated that he would come back and install the screened lanai, but he was not comfortable doing the cabinet work.

Both of these events occurred about a month and a half after contracting with Chad. I had needlessly spent approximately $700 in materials that could not be returned.

I was upset with the way Chad had handled both the fan switch installation and the cabinet. I felt he should have said something prior to having me spend money on parts he did not plan to install and he should have done so sooner. We were trying to move into this house.

I was not comfortable having him come back and do any additional work, however, we had already paid for supplies to complete the screened lanai and he had kept in his possession the screening material - that we had already paid for.  I asked for him to drop it off, but he insisted on coming by and doing the screen lanai job.

After Chad finished the lanai and left I looked at it.  The framing was white - all of our framing is brown. Dark brown.  Also the door has no latch. When the wind blows - so does the door.  The handle is too close to the door frame and the latch - which Chad did not install - will not fit.  We now have an ugly screened lanai with a door that does not latch closed.

I have been in contact with Chad about returning our keys and about the lanai. He does not plan to do anything further. He insists my husband approved the lanai.  My husband does not approve any of the work that is being done on our homes - he never has. I do - and I do not approve of this job or this contractor.
