    I know you read this a lot & sometimes you wonder if it is true, but I never write reviews, trust me on this one! But I am forced to, as the experience I had with this company has given me hope that there are GREAT companies out there. So, I called my long time A/C repair company & told them my A/C system was dead. They came out & told me the unit had frozen up. This also occurred 3 months before. At that time they added freon ($500) & said it was good to go. This time they told me it was frozen up but they suggested I put in a new system. I decided to get a second opinion. I called Brian at Better Heating & Cooling & the next day he came out. He told me the unit was frozen but he wanted to find out why. It took him about an hour & he proceeds to tell the cause. Since I have a 3 zone system, if one of the zones is accidentally lowered to cool at a far lower temp than the others, it will cause the system to freeze. So, Brian identified the problem but the unit needed to be replaced as the condenser had rusted out due to the leaking. He educated me & you could see he was not focused on a fast buck. Brian came back a week later with a great assistant & the two of them professionally installed the new system & also remedied the duct work. They also added 3 ecobee 4 smart thermostats. I highly recommend Brian!

    Daniel worked me into their schedule very quickly and Kevin, the Operations Manager called when he was 10 minutes out. He arrived right on time and was exceptional. He took a lot of his time to explain the workings of the two thermostats, the A/C unit and what the problem was. He was very knowledgeable and could have ripped me off like some businesses do. He did not. He welcomed us to the new community (we just moved) and he did not charge us for his patient tutoring. I would trust him and this company for future service. You can't find them like this anymore. Thanks Kevin for the great customer service.

    Where to begin?  This installation has been a nightmare!  It has been a saga that began in early May, 2015.  The project took 4 months to complete!  Yes, four months!  We have used this company for years to provide routine semi-annual maintenance on our residential heating and a/c unit.  This company has always been on time, professional, and done quality work.  We selected A/C & Heating, Inc. to install a new two zone new system plus a new a/c and gas furnace and move the air handler to the attic from a closet on the ground floor of a ranch style house. It was an upgrade of a 15 year old Carrier Unit that was working fine but was aging. Additionally a Guardian Air purification system was to be installed. As residential A/C replacements go this was a larger than normal project. It was to take about 2 days.  Their price for the work was competitive.
    Based on the recommendation of the Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. salesperson, we selected a new 20 seer Daikin 5T unit capable of managing several zones ( we needed just 2).  Daikin a/c came with a 12 year parts and labor guarantee....the best, to my knowledge, of all a/c manufacturers.  Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. had installed several a/c units and all were working great.  (I later learned that they had not installed any multi-zoned systems using Daikin equipment.) We were promised considerable savings on our electricity bill, quiet operation, good management of home humidity and cleaner air. The installation work was competed as promised.  However the 2 zone system was not working properly.  Technicians returned on the third day as spent time on the telephone with the manufacturer getting instructions on how to set the "dip switches"........the installation manual had no such instructions.  It seemed to work, it was quiet, we were happy until the next morning whereupon we awakened to a house that had been cooled overnight to some 68 degrees, it was freezing.  The thermostat had no apparent control. The unit kept running even when set to the OFF position. I think every tech from the company came numerous times to try and fix the unit over the rest of May and June.  All was to no avail it still would not work properly.   Techs from Daikin at first said it was a "bad chip" and then it was a "bad board" it was always something else.  The new "fixed board" would not be completed until the end of June or the first of July. Since we were having a family reunion the first week in July we ask them to cease work and have the system operate as a single zone until after our house guests departed in the 2nd week of July.
     5 or 6 techs from A/C & Heating, Inc., Daikin and perhaps one or two other "out of town consultants" came to fix the communication problem between the thermostats, compressor and air handler.  All seems right with the world, the installation is working.  Wrong again!  We leave for 2 weeks vacation. The setting for the A/C was to run for 2 hours in the wee hours of the morning down to 71 degrees and then set up to 88 degrees for the remaining 22 hours of each day.  This was Gulf Powers recommendation to save on electricity and keep the humidity in check here on the humid summertime Gulf coast.
    Using my new handy remote monitoring thermostat I noticed that the house rarely got a higher temperature than 74 degrees during the 90 plus degree days while we were gone.  No adjustments seemed to effect a temperature change.  In desperation, I remotely turned off the A/C at the thermostat ........the temperature still did not rise!? I could not turn it off! My frustration level was over the top, I emailed a nasty-gram to Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc.  They again apologized profusely and promised to come to the house upon our return home in early August.  Upon our return, again we were greeted with freezing temperatures in the morning, again the unit would not shut down on command from the thermostat. The only way to shut the system off was to pull the outside circuit breaker.
    At this point Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. "threw in the towel", they were beaten by a horrible, lousy product from Daikin. They yanked out the Daikin system.  Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. replaced the Daikin unit with a brand new Carrier System of equivalent seer. They did the de-install and reinstall at their expense.  Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. had promised to make certain that we are happy with the product and with them regardless of what it takes.  I must say that they lived up to that promise and despite the four month saga  of trying to make things right.   It is for this reason that I highly recommend Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. 

    Behind the scenes Daikin agreed to take back the entire system and refund the hardware cost to Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc.  It was the least that they could do.  I have second hand knowledge that they refuse to compensate for the thousands of dollars of labor that Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. had to spend trying to make it work and system removal.  I can only imagine damage that has been done to the relationship between the two companies.  If it were my business, I would no longer represent Daikin.............their 12 year parts and labor promise is nothing but a hollow guarantee.
    The Carrier product is outstanding by comparison.  I works as promised!  It is much quieter than Daikin; it maintains temperatures and humidity much better than Daikin.  
    Based on the second Carrier installation alone Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc would deserve a higher rating than they earned in this evaluation.

    We have used Mills for 12 years.  The installers are quite knowledgeable, courteous and prompt.  We just replaced
    our entire HVAC system:  air, furnace and thermostat.  I worked with salesman Robert Smith who was most helpful in getting the exact unit that I needed.  Our furnace is in a small closet so with his help, I selected a Carrier unit that meets all of my needs. The installer Josh was excellent and his work was very professional.  We upgraded to the wifi thermostat and it can be programmed from my smartphone.  We are most pleased not only with the equipment but also with the customer service and
    professionalism of Mills.

    Russ was exceptional.  We were in the process of selling our house, with an open house scheduled for the weekend.  Russ arrived same day after a late afternoon call and conducted an assessment.  When he determined that our outside A/C unit needed complete replacement and the system as a whole was outdated, he took the time to walk us through all the options to minimize expense while providing the best long-term fix with up-to-date equipment.  Given the situation, another contractor could have just told us the entire system needed replacement throughout the house and charged us $6-10K and we would not have been the wiser.  But Russ stepped through every option possible and made sure we were getting exactly what we needed --  no more and no less.  And then he completed the replacement under estimate and in short time...all with a smile on his face in the 90 degree/100 percent humidity of an early Florida summer.  It's been two months and the A/C works great.  We couldn't be happier.  I highly recommend Destin Air Conditioning & Refrigeration to anyone.

    The owner, Walon Cotton, responded to my request the same day I called.  This is unusual in this area from my experience.  Mr. Cotton was extremely knowledgeable, professional, thorough and pointed out the potential pitfalls of a residential HVAC retrofit. His firm was not chosen for the work as I believed an HVAC product offered  by a competitor to be superior in efficiency and warranty. H&W's price was competitive.  I will certainly call them again should I ever have a need for HVAC service.
