Deck Building reviews in Longwood

  • We had McNish construct a new seawall behind our home about two years ago. The initial workmanship was okay but only after he added $1250 as he said he underestimated the fill material. About a year after the completion of the work the wall collapsed about 2 ft risking damage to the patio above. After several phone calls he finally came out to look. We agreed to a solution and schedule but when told the repair was his dime that seemed to end the conversation. We talked again 3-4 times after delays and excuses and finally he never returned calls. In danger of losing my patio I called another two contractors and was informed by both that the fill used was not correct and the number tiebacks were half of what should have been installed. The price to fix?...more than the initial construction. You can look at all the positive reviews - all quickly after construction. Seriously, you might get a decent looking first product but if anything goes wrong.....well good luck with that. He will string you along with false promises.

  • Process went well from beginning to end. The staff was very professional, answered all of my questions and did an excellent job on the project. In fact, they did so well, that I referred them to one of my close friends.

  • We could not be MORE pleased with Zac, owner of Sham Shield Powerwashing LLC. This is the second job he has done for us, first job at this property, which is about to be sold. Zac was originally scheduled to complete the work on 9/26/2017 but when he arrived for the job, he was a bit overwhelmed by the size and scope of the property. (I had emailed him photos but they did convey the size of the property.) He felt the job required two technicians and so he rescheduled for the following day. As he was leaving, I offhandedly mentioned, that our "water pressure is terrible" (we have a well, as do many estate homes in this area), and he said he REALLY appreciated me being honest about that, as low water pressure can double or triple the amount of time it takes him to complete a job. He checked our water pressure and found it inadequate for his equipment. I was very disappointed but I understood his position. I had pre-purchased a voucher from Angie's List for a small portion of the job, knowing that a big job like that house would cost much more. I was sure Angie's List would refund me the voucher amount if the job could not be completed due to water pressure. However, Zac (owner) suggested that if an inexpensive plumbing adjustment could be made to each of the spigots, the water pressure might be improved enough for his equipment to work. I appreciated his willing attitude, as a lot of contractors would have just walked away. The plumbing adjustment was made to each spigot (removal of adapters, requiring drilling in some cases, inexpensive Home Depot parts), and I notified Zac we were ready for him. His second technician was unavailable for the day we had previously agreed upon so he had to cancel and reschedule but he did so very courteously and in a timely manner so that I was always aware of the schedule. (He is a very thoughtful, conscientious person.) Zac and a second technician returned on Monday, October 2, 2017 to tackle the job. I was at physician's appointments all day so I could not be home at ALL. I usually insist on overseeing home repairs but the house is in a guard-gated community and Zac had already proven his trustworthiness to me when he worked at our new home. Zac sent me frequent texts and photos, giving me updates on his progress and any hurdles he encountered. (The driveway is massive, with a couple deep "dips", which held the standing water, making the driveway appear as though it had not been cleaned. Poor Zac had to hand-broom that area out, painstakingly, until it evaporated or was absorbed into the surrounding terrain.) Also, he reported that the “plumbing fix” with the spigots did improve the water pressure but only to a slight degree. The slower water pressure greatly slowed down the team's progress when using both their machines at once, making the job a much longer and more laborious task than he had originally bid. He sent us photos, rating his work "an 8.5/10." The man is too perfectionist. I felt he did a terrific job. He UNDERSELLS. The job was a 10/10! I will not list the price I paid him (above the Angie's List voucher), as he underbid this job and LOST money. I do not want anyone else with a similar size property expecting that price. He deserves more! He had to come out from Melbourne twice to my Seminole County home because of the spigot situation and the job took far longer than it should have due to the poor water pressure from my well. By the time he paid his technician, I doubt there was enough money left over to buy a Publix sub. :( We will absolutely hire Zac again for our new property (if he will have us!) This is a totally honest review. I had never met Zac, heard of his company, knew anyone who knew him, had any friends in common, etc., until Angie's List. I give this company my very highest rating.

  • I am extremely pleased with Sham Shield Powerwashing and I will absolutely be hiring them again. They were responsive to my phone calls, requested photos in advance so they could adequately assess the scope of the job, were on very punctual to the jobsite, did not smoke or leave trash on my property, and did exactly what they said they would do. I paid an extra $125 for a complete job so it was a total of $234, which was a good value. Our two-story 3600 square foot home is in Seminole County, a long drive for this Brevard County company. They provided photos at the end of the job. We have not had good experiences with contractors during our renovation of this property. From now on, I only hire from Angie's List! This was a great, no-hassle-no-surprises, experience.

  • They repaired one area and the color did not match at all. They agreed to change the color. I waited 4 weeks without any news. Called back and now they don't even remember the promise they made. Do not trust them. My biggest mistake was to trust them and prepay.

  • We had McNish Outdoor estimate re-doing a 16 x 16 dock/ deck. Their price was competitive and offered a 50% deposit with 50% due upon completion. Emiel was very responsive, flexible, friendly and knowledgeable. His team arrived, did the work estimated with quality and on schedule, cleaned up and requested the balance of the payment after his job was reviewed and accepted. Great experience, we will hire again.

  • They were wonderful. They did everything they said they would do, when they said they would do it and at exactly the price quoted. The fact that there was a $150 Angies List coupon mad the price significantly below the other estimates. It was a pleasure doing business with them.

  • Came across McNish Outdoor Living on Angie's List, and gave to say that in the 35 plus years we have used contractors and sub-contractors on our home, Emiel and his crew are without a doubt, some of the most professional and highest quality folks we have ever had the pleasure of working with.
First, there was never a phone call or email that went unanswered more than a couple hours, all communications were clear and succinct leading up to the project.
They arrived ON TIME, and completed the work within the time frame and budget.
Quality of workmanship was excellent, and attention to detail such as perfectly straight screw placement and sanded edges was 100% accurate.
Wish I had found these folks earlier, and will definitely use them for any future dock and neck projects.

  • I had them do the sidewalks and driveway on my personal home and then sidewalks, driveway and a rental house in preparation for painting. The rental house was under trees and had 12 years of had discoloration and mildew. Sham Shield had underestimated the time and the amount of chemicals that would be needed but even though they had to wash some areas 2 different ways, they kept working until they got it right. Although they had underestimated the time and materials, they stood behind their initial estimate when they submitted my bill. The job GREATLY exceeded my expectations and I was so pleased, I paid them extra anyway (much to the shock of my wife I might add).. This is the 2nd time I've used them on rental houses (see review from Feb 2016). I highly recommend them !!!!

  • I needed kickplate installed around my pool enclosure because my dogs had attacked lizards through the screen and ripped parts of it off, leaving holes. They were also taunted by squirrels that would run in the yards - and the dogs could see them given that the screen was floor to ceiling in the enclosure.
Andre came out to my house, took measurements and discussed options and set a date. On the day of the service, Andre was fantastic - he was prompt, polite, friendly, professional. My dogs barked at him from inside the house the whole time, but he never made it seem like it was an annoyance (and i know it had to be).  He even found a few places where the screen enclosure was no longer fully attached to the cement underneath and put in new bolts to secure it - i really appreciated that extra touch to make sure my screen was safe and secure.
The kickplate looks fabulous and the new door hardware works great too. I almost feel like I have a whole new porch!  The best part is that installing this made a world of a difference for my dogs! No more holes in the screen, no more barking at squirrels that they can see outside.
It's been a few months since I had this installed and it's holding up great - through all the summer storms. Andre and Top Dog are fabulous. I will go to them with any future screen enclosure repairs and needs.
