Shettle Family Eye Care / Dr. D. Scott Shettle
the office is lovely, there was a dog sleeping on a bed inside the door, a big picture book of working dogs and their jobs on the table with a marker on this dog's page, the office person was very sweet and helpful.
I was pretty skeptical because I have gone to a different place in the past two years but wanted to try this office because my sister went to a Shettle Eye Care store in nearby Largo and she loved it.
Everything went very well. I was especially impressed with the fact that Dr. Shettle did not give up and just prescribe something quickly. On the part of the exam where I had to choose between two slides very similar, he said my answers were inconsistent. He said I could sit and rest my eyes and he would come back. When he did return I did much better. I did not get my new lenses yet but expect them shortly.
I did not have to leave my current glasses there either which surprised me. I ordered new lenses for the frames I have now. I was told that when they come in, I can just go there and they will cut them and put them in my frames while I wait. Nice since I need my glasses to drive and read.
I am very pleased, price too.

    Orlick, Dr. Martin E
I fell on a Saturday and experienced floaters, which alarmed me as my retinas are thin from extreme nearsightedness (before Lasik). I got Dr. Orlick's name from the office staff of a Lasik specialist I did not know as I am new to the area. I called on Monday and was given an appointment the same day, which I appreciated very much. Dr. Orlick was thorough, dilating and examining both eyes. While he found no evidence of a retinal tear, he said that was the good news. The bad news was he asked if anyone had told me that I had signs of macular degeneration. Uh, no. I didn't ask questions as I was fit in to the schedule as an emergency patient and didn't want to take his time, even though this information was alarming. As instructed I scheduled a follow-up appointment five weeks later to make sure there was no issue from the fall. My second experience was quite different. The appointment was at 10 AM; I was brought in by the staff in a timely manner, and the left eye dilated. Then I sat...and sat...and sat in the interior waiting room watching the Discovery Channel with other patients. I was not seen until shortly before noon. Dr. Orlick gave no apology for the delay, did a quick exam, gave a rudimentary response to my question about type of macular degeneration, and said to schedule an appointment for a follow up in a year. When I asked another patient who was waiting about his experience with Dr. Orlick, he said he hadn't been there in a couple years, but had not had the type of wait we were enduring. Dr. Orlick is in a practice with other physicians, though he was the only doctor in when I was in the office. There is a large staff of friendly young women. I would have appreciated some information and an apology. Having been an emergency patient myself, I understand delays. I still appreciate respect for my time, my patience, my business from the doctor and his staff.

    Orlick, Dr. Martin E
I am having some difficulty reading, and wanted to make certain that it was not caused by problems with my retinas. I called to see Dr. Orlick, because he is the retina specialist I have seen in the past. I was able to get an appointment promptly. Dr. Orlick and his staff were very thorough, and when he could not find an explanation for my problem, he had one of his office staffers make an appointment for me with another specialist. He is business-like and thorough, and almost all his staff are warm and welcoming.

    Orlick, Dr. Martin E
The surgery itself was quick and painless. The recovery after surgery was not pleasant because I had to keep my eye facing down during the recovery period. However, I am fortunate to have had such a skilled surgeon who explained everything in advance. I was progressively losing vision in my left eye and would have permanently lost vision and now have vision that is between 20/40 and 20/60.

Dr. Melby is incredibly thorough and keeps excellent notes. He is personable, and his prescriptions have always worked for me. He has been my optometrist for decades.
