    The installation instructions were not very clear. I had to reinstall all the sensors because I did not install them properly. It was only after I called to complain that they were not working properly did I learn how they are supposed to be installed. The call center folks were friendly enough but at time not very informative. I had to resort to speaking to a supervisor to get the answers I needed.

    Protect America Home Security
    First, I want to give high praise to those individuals in technical services that help over the phone with self-installation and troubleshooting.  Except for one individual, personnel are knowledgable and helpful.  My high praise, however, ends there.  

    We purchased a second home that we obviously wanted to secure.  The house had an existing contract with Protect American and some equipment was already present.  We purchased additional equipment to more fully protect the home and added some "bells and whistles," like lighting automation, to complete the project.  While visiting the home we did not set the alarm system but did receive two sensor failures.  Frustrating but not alarming, as technical service was able to walk us through resetting the sensors.  Upon leaving the home and setting the system we began to receive more sensor failures.  The first was a motion detector.  Its failure prevented us from remotely alarming the system, due to a "protest open zone" failure.  I tried to call technical support but it was Saturday after 7 p.m.  You see, customer service/technical advise does not operate 24/7.  They are open M - F 8 a.m - 9 p.m. and S - S 9 a.m. - 7 p.m, so if you experience a problem or want to do your install after hours - tough.  This meant our home went unprotected until we could reach someone the following day.  Once I was able to get ahold of someone they told me there was nothing they could do, that I needed to be at the house.  I told them I could see through their online interactive software  (which is awful by the way) what sensor was bad and asked them why they couldn't remove the sensor so that I could then set the alarm.  I finally convinced the gentleman to disable the bad detector and I was able to set the alarm.  Whew.  Great, I thought, but why didn't he think of it?

    The next day I received a call from the monitoring service informing me that the alarm was going off.  The alarm went off at 8:53 a.m. and I was called at 8:58 a.m.  Since I have cameras inside the home I could see that there was no breach.  I called the monitoring service to cancel the alarm so as to not have the police waste their time and to avoid a false alarm charge by the City.  I was put on HOLD!  Are you kidding me.  Yes, hold, for more than three minutes.  When someone finally answered my call I was told "I'll try to stop the police from coming."  Well, I guess if you answered the phone more quickly this might not have been an issue in the first place, I thought.  I asked the gentleman whether or not my system was still alarming.  He said, "I don't know.  Some systems go for three minutes, while others go off for seven or eight."  I could see on my end that the system was in alarm mode so I remotely disarmed it.  When I went to rearm the system, of course, I got another "protest open zone" error because yet another sensor was bad.  In fact, when I looked at the interactive software, it was not one sensor but two!  Completely frustrated that in such a short period of time we had experienced such instability I informed the gentleman that we were not satisfied with their equipment or service and thought it best we part ways.  Of course we are under contract but in our opinion Protect America is not providing adequate equipment or service.  He had the nerve to tell me the problem was on our end.  Really?  The gentleman said he would transfer me to the proper department.  I waited for more than 10 minutes and no one ever picked up so I hung up.

    So, in short, great upfront technical install service, disastrous equipment, horrible software, lousy hours and poor monitoring service.  With so many alarm companies out there there certainly are better ones.  Find one, Protect America is not it.

    This was a difficult job because of the low attic space and trying to run wires inside all the air ducts.  Also the back building is a two-story and they had to run wires very high up in the air under the eve.  We had hoped we could link up the two buildings to view on our dedicated TV, but that was not possible.  We can however, view it on a laptop or iPhone.  We can also hook up a TV in the back building to view if we wanted to.  We had to call them back to move the front cameras which they did, no problem.  They've been very responsive in making sure that everything is working properly to our liking and in showing us how to record, set up, etc.

    My house was not easy but the technician did a really good job to make it work and was really polite and friendly. He installed the cameras and passed all the wires to the system. Installed the whole system in a good time frame and make sure that I was happy with the settings of the cameras. He cleaned everything before he left. We had some issue to setup the system with my router but the owner ( David) came to my house and find out that was my personal router that was the problem. We were a little bit skeptical but he told me to go get a other one and he will come back the next day to set it up for me. I did get a new router and he came back. He was right because now everything works perfectly and I'm really happy with it. I will recommend this company to anyone who wants to have a good service and reliable people. They will answer all your questions and worries.

    Set an appointment they sent some guy named Andre D to meet with my house manager. My house manager tells me that all Andre could do is talk about how much work it would be to put in smoke detectors and really seemed to complain about the prospects of performing this work. Andre told him that the main office would be contacting me. I never was contacted. I called the Mister Sparky office a few times and was told they would "get back to me". They never did. Don't know why they wasted our time. I had to pay my house manager to be there for the appointment; at the least they could of followed up and provide a quote of why they can't do the work. Instead it now has been over a month and we are still in limbo as to what is going on. Very unprofessional company. Maybe they had a management change or something. 12/16/15
