Pet Care & Health reviews in Defuniak Springs

    Freeport Pet Clinic
We have used this vet for many years and until the last visit, have been quite satisfied with the care they provided to our family of six dogs. However, a new policy has been instituted whereby pet owners are no longer allowed to be in the exam room, even for regular services. The last time I took two of my dogs there, I had concerns but was not allowed to speak with the vet, only the person who brought my two pomeranians back to me who did not know the answer to my questions. I explained to her, before she took my dogs to the back and after she informed me of the new policy that one of them was very frightened of strangers and that things would go much better if I could be with him when he was on the table. I was stunned when I was told the vet did not have time to either have me in the room with him or even talk to me. As a result, one of my dogs did not receive a teeth check because he tried to bite the vet. Of course he did, I told her, because he was scared to death. I picked him up and showed her how I was able to open his mouth and rub my finger over his teeth while I held him but she still refused to let me go back with him a second time so that I could keep his mouth open while the vet looked at his teeth. There was a customer in line at the counter who overheard the conversation, and she was the person who showed me he had double the teeth a dog should have and that two of them were loose. I decided right then that none of my dogs would ever go back to that place because they obviously have gotten so big with so many patients that they no longer have time to deal with humans or do anything to calm a frightened dog before they try to examine him. I went there alone last month for a final refill on Metacam. All I did was walk in the door and across the small waiting room to the counter and then back out again. I did notice the floor was dirty but that didn't bother me. They are, after all, very busy with dogs walking in and out all day long. Forty Eight HOURS later two of our dogs started coughing, hacking and gagging and within the week, all six of them were doing it. Learned they had kennel cough, which I was told I likely picked up on my shoes while at the vet to pick up the Metacam and brought back inside my own home. Not only has the care and communication, in my opinion, fallen to sub-standard levels, but their prices are very high. We have found a wonderful new vet right in the same town with lower prices on both services and meds, and who welcomes humans to go into the exam rooms, takes the time to get to know the animal before the scary needles come out, and then takes even more time to answer questions and make suggestions. I believe Freeport Pet Clinic has gotten too big for its own good or for the good of the animals entrusted to them.

I have been using them for 10 years. About a $100. The vet is wonderful that's why we go back there. The vet is courteous, he's just wonderful with animals. We are using them next month.
