  • I found Japanese Auto Care here on Angie's List and went to them because of the great reviews, and because my sister and I both needed major repairs done on our vehicles. One is a Toyota Camry and the other is an old Ford Explorer. The Camry had (still has) an oil leak and the Explorer was (still is) stalling, overheating, leaking A/C, and shaking when the brakes are applied. So that's us in a nutshell. 

    As for the folks at Japanese Auto, they are a father-son team with other mechanics in their employ. I will say that they seemed quite personable both on the phone and in person. Unfortunately, based on the odd and incorrect things they've said to us, they don't seem to know vehicles at all, or are playing dumb to con their customers (I'm guessing it is the latter rather than the former).

     When my sister noticed that her Camry CONTINUED to indicate an oil leak AFTER Japanese Auto charged her $1,344.47 for "fixing" it, she had a mechanic at another auto place confirm what she suspected. She went back to Japanese Auto because she thought that perhaps it was a complicated repair and that they had just made a mistake - well trusting them was her mistake. The son actually seemed confused by her request to rectify the issue, and after having her vehicle "checked" (I seriously doubt whether they even looked at it) for THE SECOND TIME, came back with the claim that the radiator suddenly needed to be replaced, so they charged her ANOTHER $335.77(?!) and said nothing about the oil leak until she made repeated inquiries. Now how is it they missed the radiator problem THE FIRST TIME? The simple answer is that they are making things up.

    As for my Ford, when I realized that it is in the exact condition NOW as it was in BEFORE I took it to Japanese Auto, I refused to take it back to them. In fact, LESS THAN A WEEK after Japanese Auto billed me for $498.44 for replacing multiple parts, and assuring me my vehicle was in good order, the engine overheated completely and nearly CAUGHT FIRE as I was driving (there were billows of smoke and it was frightening), such that I had to pull over and jump out. I grudgingly took it to the dealership (had to have it towed to tell the truth) because I refused to return to Japanese Auto and fall into the same trap my sister did. I had a Ford mechanic do a thorough inspection and it turns out that MY car was the one that needed a new radiator, among other things!

    One can imagine the chagrin we now feel, at having been so mistreated, and robbed of our hard earned money that we NEED to pay our bills and well, live. Worse yet, now we have to pay someone else thousands more to perform the same repairs, granted we aren't cheated again.

    The people at Japanese Auto Care are fools at best and CROOKS at the very least. We should be refunded IN FULL. 

    For those of you considering giving them business on account of the positive feedback they are receiving on this site, I offer you the faithful account of my experiences as a cautionary tale. I am bewildered at the discrepancy between their reputation and their essentially criminal behavior, but I'll chalk it up to the naivete of their other patrons.

  • They are very friendly and I never have any problems when I take my car in. They are always on time. If you have any problems with your car, they will show you the parts they need to change and charge you a reasonable price. He is very trustworthy and my cars always run perfectly.

  • The owner is David Cohen, and he is wonderful. His price is very reasonable, I know what happens when a woman walks in, but he is not like that. If anybody is looking for somebody, this is the guy to go to. Whenever we go there and tell him that we want something done, if it is not needed, he tells us that it is not yet required. He doesn’t kill me when I go there, he tells me whether it’s really needed or not.
