  THE WORST CONTRACTOR EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD IN 40 YEARS. I was charged $350 for what was represented as 'sublaminate' to repair subflooring. It turned out it was less than 2 sheets of plywood. When I asked for receipts and justification for the materials charge it was refused. In addition to paying $350 for the 2 sheets of plywood, I paid $180 per hour for the work. I asked for justification for the materials charges and was told that I had agreed to it, so too bad. I was not going to get any refund for materials even though I agreed to pay $180 per hour for the labor. He had no problem with what he considered a slight 'up tick' in the materials charge. He also ridiculously over charged for plumbing fixtures and one lighting fixture. After the install I went to lowes and saw what he paid vs what he charged me. Once again, he refused to reduce the materials charge despite the fact that I laid him $170 per hour for this work. I requested numerous times that he refund me the overcharges on the materials and he has refused. BE AWARE THAT MR RUSSELL CHARGES $180 per hour and marks up his materials astronomically. Please don't let this happen to you. I would have paid the $180 per hour charge without complaint if he had only charged a reasonable amount for the materials.

  The floor they put look gorgeous. They are so convenient and so easy to get. They started a bit late. They are professional and they have a good product. They were very helpful at the store and directed us in many ways. They were very knowledgeable. I will use them in the future.

  Golden Hammer Construction

  Let me first say my husband and I are serial remodelers and we have done several similar projects. This was by far our best experience! Shawn and Drew were fantastic to work with throughout the project and very easy to reach by phone, text and email. 
  They were extremely helpful during the design phase as they truly listened to our wants and needs. They offered great ideas and were genuinely interested in making our home our dream home. We were constantly updated with schedule and pictures of the progress (as we were not yet living in Gainesville).  
  They have a great team of workers, everyone was extremely kind and helpful. Several issues from previous owners A/C work were discovered by the crew during the renovation. We immediately received pictures via email and a phone call to discuss the problem. My husband commented that it would have been very easy and convenient for them to ignore this problem and cover it up. He was really impressed that they took the time to point this out and go above and beyond to fix this problem that would have cost us more money in the future had it not been take care of. 
  The quality of the work was excellent everything turned out better than we could have imagined. My husband was amazed how clean and organized the house was kept and blown away with the attention to details. 
  These guys were so polite and professional.  I never write reviews and can't say enough about Golden Hammer!

  Planned Furnishings

  We were recommended this company by our realtor. We thought their price was a little high for the wood flooring, but we absolutely loved the hardwood flooring because it didn't look like it was distressed by a machine (even though it was). A lot of the distressed hardwoods we saw in other places was uniform on each board so it was obviously done by a machine. They were able to install the flooring so that the boards looked uniquely distressed. We also have a fireplace that is covered with limestone rocks jutting out at different angles. The installer spent almost all day one day cutting each of the boards around all of the angles. It looks amazing! The boards seem to go under the fireplace!
  There were a couple of problems with the scheduling of the installation and the carpet installation. There was a miscommunication on when they were going to begin installing the flooring, so they started a few days later than what we had planned. We also had them install carpet in one bedroom, but there wasn't enough carpet ordered to finish the room. They were able to come back in a week and finish installing it.
  Overall, we had a great experience with this company. We enjoyed meeting Scoot and his son (the owners of the store) and they were very helpful and knowledgeable. If we weren't so poor after purchasing this house and paying for the flooring, we'd have them install the hardwood throughout the rest of the house!

  Wood and materials were delivered on Monday. The crew showed up midmorning on Tuesday and left approximately 3:30 PM with the floor partially installed. They had to move furniture and old carpet before starting the install. They had to glue the wood together, so straps were installed to hold the wood for set up. The crew showed up again midmorning on Wednesday and finished the flooring install. They put the furniture and room back together by approximately 3:30 PM. Overall the work was satisfactory!
  Because the wood had to be glued together, and door transitions glued down, the job could not be done in one day. Their work is good, and their price is good but they could show up earlier in the day. I would recommend the Floor store of Newberry to others.
