"I found Mr.
on Angie's List shortly after moving to the area and reached out to him to get an idea of what it might cost to repair the" old solid oak roll-top desk that my father had kept in his veterinary office from the time I was a toddler until he passed away in 2002. It's a massive desk, 5 feet wide, 3 feet deep, with six drawers in the bottom section - 5 of which are nearly the depth of the desk and numerous drawers, cubbies and hidey holes in the roll-top section.
came to my home to examine the desk and determine what needed to be done. While at my home I showed him a couple of other pieces I have - he is so knowledgeable about antiques and old furniture! I immediately knew that he was the perfect person to take care of my desk. I was very busy throughout the Fall and then the holidays were upon us so it wasn't until the end of January or so that I arranged with
to have him pick up the desk and effect the repairs. He had originally estimated that it would take about 2 weeks to complete and it ended up taking 3 - but he did contact me to let me know that it was taking longer than expected as he had uncovered areas needing repairs that were not evident previously. (he made these additional repairs at no additional cost) Finally the day came when it was time for my desk to come home! I could not believe my eyes - I cried when it was all put together again in my study. It is not a highly valuable piece in and of itself, but the sentimental value is priceless to me.
and his team had gone above and beyond my expectations - the desk had been in pretty sad shape after years of neglect and now it is so beautiful! In addition to cleaning, repairing, and restoring they researched it and found the manufacturer, the distributor and, buried deep inside, a label with the date of completion.
and his team seamlessly repaired areas such as the opening where Dad pushed in his chair - it was so battered the raw wood was exposed and worn away! And now - you cannot tell that any repair has been made. There are so many areas on the desk that are the same - you can't tell it was in such bad shape when it was taken away.
is an expert in his craft and I wholeheartedly recommend him to everyone who has need of antique restoration! He wrote about my desk in his blog, here is the link to copy and paste in your browser: http://johnmarkpower.blogspot.com/2015/02/national-oak-roll-top-desk-1917.html This so you can see for yourself what a beautiful job he did! And he describes much more completely the details of what actually needed to be done to restore it. I already have plans for
to restore the other 2 pieces I have - I know they will be spectacular too!

does an excellent job of fairly and efficiently running an estate sale. Prices are reasonable and the staff is always friendly and ready" to lend a hand. Last week I purchased a chair and one of the staff carried it to my car.

Antique collecting is one of the most popular leisure activities in the United States. Due to their intrinsic value, antiquated items are either collected for investment and profit-making purposes or as display pieces, prized as heirlooms.

A key to enjoy your art or antique collecting hobby is to find items that excite you as opposed to collecting for strictly financial upside, says Buxton. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Carol V. of Orlando, Fla.)

Hi, benterrific.

Keep checking around at the auction houses and antique dealers. There are a few in your area that are highly rated. The bigger auction houses should have qualified appraisers. You might also check with your local art museum or fine art gallery. Just like we recommend for big home repair projects, shop around to get the best price.

I found out the hard way in the military that it depends on the product. Some silver polishes will turn brass and copper black with instant tarnish and etch them, so check the label. Some types can be used for any soft metal, some not. I suspect it depends on the pH of the product, or whether it has aommonia in it. And of course if you do decide to try it, do the center bottom (where it sits on the table) first so you can see if it is causing problems.

Brasso is probably the top name in the industry - they make both liquid and treated cloth polishing products both for specific metals, and general polishing ones.

I would ask local antique shops and art stores (ones selling art and frames, not galleries) if they repair antiques, AND for references, so the repair does not decrease its value unecessarily. In many cases the old frame is worth more than the painting !
You could also ask local art museums who they use to repair/rehab frames, if they do not do it themselves.

Antique Store reviews in Wilmington

Since Rejuvenation was bought out and started to slowly phase out everything but their reproduction items,
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
has become the place to go. Their prices are vastly better than Rejuv.
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
is knowledgeable and his growing selection has made this place a rare find. While the House of Antique Hardware is actually in
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
, you can't go there (they only sell mail order) AND they have pretty much stopped selling real antique parts and are now about 99% reproduction. This too makes
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
a rare gem and about the only place left to get all kinds of stuff needed for old houses.

Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
was very helpful and professional. She and her crew worked really h****** a very short time frame. Although it was a cash only sale, she claimed she did not know what was sold each day. She did perform an excellent cleanup after the sale. She had removed some of the better antiques that my mom had to sell on consignment that I had agreed to but I was informed that she had sold them to a dealer instead. I had requested a payout of $2000 out of the funds which she granted. She told me 2 weeks after the sale that final payment would be made after 30 days of the sale. It is now
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
16th and she rarely answers emails and does not return calls. No final payment has been issued although I received an email on 7/2 stating that it was "in the mail". She still will not provide any information on total sales amounts, documentation or the final check for funds that are due.

The sale itself was an absolute fiasco. He did not provide a detailed list of all items to be sold prior to the auction (which was written in his contract and it's a state statute), and afterwards gave me a vague list of what was sold so it is impossible for me to reconcile what is known to be missing. I did pretty much did 80% of the prep work including buying boxes and filling them with tons of items, and when the auction occurred and he had an auctioneer here who I never saw his license. We had a lot of items go missing after the auction and since there no detailed list we were never able to reconcile where the discrepancy is. The detailed list should have been provided prior as per the state statute. We have made repeated attempts to get the information from him, both through the state regulating board and attorney, and at this point we are trying to sever the contract and move on, but he is no longer communicating with us or our attorney.

He kept pushing an offer about 75,000 less than the current value of the house (and 20,000 less than the reserve price) 2 weeks prior to the auction, but said the person offering could not afford his commision. When the auction occurs ZERO people showed up for auction of the house. I've spoke with different auctioneers and spoke with the auction board and they said it was very odd nobody showed up. We were sold a service that was not provided, the auction itself was not performed in accordance to the state statutes which are currently set by the state DPOR who are currently investigating the matter. If they're this comfortable doing this to me and my senior parents while I was here I can't even imagine what they'd do on their own.

Day's Gone Buy /
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
held the estate sale and did the clean out as promised in the time allotted. They did a good job and I was pleased. The problem and reason I will never use her service again is it is now 4 months later and I am still trying to get full payment of the $1450 she owed me from the $3000 in sales. "
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
" keeps a % of sales and charges extra for clean up and the client gets the rest. This would be fine except it has been like pulling teeth to get paid. Nothing but one excuse after another. It took two month and a report to the BBB to get
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
to finally start sending small payments and I have still only received two checks totaling $650 so far. I am still owed $800 and trying to get the rest as I write this.To
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
's credit, she does seem to be slowly trying to pay the amount owed off but It has been a very frustrating situation.

I was told by UPS they cannot deliver my package to home address. They are telling me that they cant find my address after I updated my address. Someone delivered a package to me about four months ago. I think they are jerking me over, they want me to come get my package. I think because I used vulgar language on the phone, they are telling me they cant deliver. I received a notice yesterday from UPS, saying that my package is going to be sent back to the sender. I want to make sure that this does not happen to other people. I had a package delivered from Walmart.com from UPS, so I know that they know where I live. The delivery guy saw that I have cameras around my home, to protect my property, and I think because of that, that is why I haven't had my package delivered. I contacted UPS and was transferred to Guatemala, which I was told that my package was suppose to be delivered 4 days prior. I was told that they want me to show up and pick up the package to save the headache, at least 4 times I was told to come get my package. I told her that I don't know the area, and I am not going to get my package. I saw a delivery driver up the road, and was informed that there are no packages to be delivered to my address. I told him I could meet him up the road at a local business, and was told that it doesn't work that way and they begin to laugh at me. I gave my personal phone number so I could give directions and was still told that my address can not be found. They are giving me the run around about delivering my package. Today is the 6th or 7th day that they have had my package and they are sending it back. They have asked me 3 or 4 times in 6 days to come get my package, and I'm not going to because then they will expect me to come every time I have something delivered. I have a confederate flag on my home, not because I am racist, but because I am a huge
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
of hazard fan. These reason make me to believe that's why UPS will not deliver to my home. My phone company wanted me Friday afternoon to stop the shipment so they can get the package back and send it by USPS. I'm so done with the situation, I told the phone company that I was not going to do that.

I found
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
through a friend and used them because they are an "Antique Auction House" and I had to clear out a house with many beautiful antiques on a tight deadline. Before accepting those antiques for auction
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
needed to see them. I photographed and described every item. Then sat down with the owner to discuss each one. What they turned out to be was very good at selling THEMSELVES. They were all very friendly. They used words like research and advertising. Although their commission is much higher when items sell for less they explained how it pays them more to have things to sell for as much as they can. The owner sat down with me and talked over each item. I had a list with multiple photos and descriptions of almost everything. When I left them with my stuff it seemed like I might not get top dollar but they would do everything they could to get decent prices. They came to the house and inventoried everything and seemed to pack it up carefully. There was a little confusion and they accidentally left 2 pictures with ornate frames behind. When I opened the box and found them they had broken because of how they had been packed. Their presentation of what they were going to do ended up being extremely different than my impression of the work they actually did. Their descriptions included absolutely no important details even though they had information given to them about the items and many had markings (for instance a
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
clock with maker info on the pendulum was simply described as an oak clock). Photos were single images that did not show important details and many were not very good. A couple of items were damaged during the move. As for the 2 pictures that had broken during packing. I called to see whether they still wanted me to bring them. They said they did so I brought them down. I watched them make repairs as I stood there. When I checked their online positing I did not see the damage included in the description. Everything sold for rock bottom prices. 9 pieces did not sell at all and required a second auction. Over 50 items ( including a beautiful 2 piece antique sideboard, a
Wilmington Antique Stores Provider Name Locked
clock and many other pieces of fine furniture, pictures and household décor in excellent condition) sold for a total of apx $1800 (an avg of $30 per item) out of which they took appx 25% in commission. Would NEVER use again.

We were
greeted as though we had just stepped off an alien space ship and were treated
in a manner we considered quite rude for the entire time we were there. I was
very ill at the time and my wife is severely handicapped so we requested a
couple of chairs while they perused the items we brought for their evaluation. They
acted as though we were the first and only customers who had ever made such an
outlandish request and they took there time in producing the two chairs. It was
downhill from there. Not only did the owner and chief evaluator denigrate piece
after piece we had brought, but he did so in the most disparaging manner
possible. It was as though he was trying to make us feel as inferior as he possible.
We can certainly
understand it if he found our offerings unacceptable; after all, his livelihood
depends upon purchasing antiques and collectables of high quality that he can
resell at a profit and if he doesn't feel that we had anything of that nature
to offer, we wouldn't expect him to buy anything from us. HOWEVER, he is a
businessman and, as such, is reliant on the good will of his customers and the
community at large. To assure this, one would expect the owner of such an
establishment to treat ALL his visitors with decency and respect. It was our
experience that, at least in this regard, his attitude and actions leave a
great deal to be desired.
In one
instance, he insisted that one of our figurines was resin, not porcelain. My
wife did extensive research in the Internet, proving the figurine in question
was in fact porcelain, and one identical to it had just sole at a high-end
auction house for over $100. She was asking only $20 for it from "Time

The table and 2 chairs were on display and in good condition. He stated the other 2 chairs were in his storage. We assumed the other 2 chairs would be in the same condition but were not. The table and 2 chairs on display were restored by him while the 2 in storage were not in good shape. We went back to discuss our disappointment in the experience and expectations. He said it was up to us to ask the appropriate questions ahead of time about the conditions of the other 2 chairs which we did not. We think he could have been upfront about the condition of the other 2 chairs. He offered a refund which is not what we were after. We were just giving him feedback on our experience as customers but I don't think he got it. He kept talking about how we got a good deal and he was willing to take it back for a refund. No apologies from him were offered.
