Transmission Service reviews in Newark

Mark is a straight-up, no-nonsense guy. He will give you his honest opinion (so if he says it's not worth repairing the trans, it's not). He takes the time to make sure his customers understand the options they have with a transmission repair. He replaces transmissions with rebuilt ones (aka, Jasper) and rebuilds them himself. Ask him to share with you the details of both.
In terms of rebuilds, Mark keeps up on the latest information about transmissions. He is aware of the improvements being made to transmissions by the manufacturer, and if you have him rebuild the trans, he will install all the updated parts. From Mark, we learned Jasper, a leading remanufacturer of transmissions and the kind we originally wanted installed, updates some parts but not everything. We were a little surprised Mark recommended a concurrent radiator replacement until we learned that Japser would have required one to validate their warranty anyway, because of how the cooling integrates with the transmission.
Not surprising, Mark's price came in well under the dealership's. It was competitive with our own mechanic's, and had a better warranty than either the dealer or our mechanic.
The three things that most swayed our decision to have Mark do the work:
    1. 1) We immediately felt comfortable with Mark. He is an upstanding guy who we felt would be honest with us. After the terrible experience we had with the dealer we purchased the car from only a few days before, Mark was an enormous breath of fresh air.
    2. 2) Mark has 30 years' experience repairing transmissions. He showed us what he would do with the transmission. He showed us his transmission journals and described the rebuild process. Furthermore, he checked to see whether the car was coding anything. In addition to a sylenoid failure (which told him what was wrong with the transmission), it was also coding multiple misfire (we had to replace the spark plugs). Others would have ignored this, but Mark makes it a practice of informing customers about other codes. All told, we felt we undersood what we could expect and we felt we could respect Mark and his transmission expertise.

    3) Mark offered a 3-year, 50,000-mile warranty. It's definitely peace of mind. We have to take the car back at the next oil change for him to inspect the trans and see how it's working, but this is just a 15-minute inspection. Since the transmission is the only thing Consumer Reports suggests is a problem on this vehicle, we're hoping we're good to go for awhile.
We're about a month out from service, and we're happy with how things are going. The transmission is performing well. Since changing the spark plugs and a tail light, we've had no other problems.
If you're looking for a reputable transmission guy, Mark at All-Trans is your man. He came highly recommended to us, and we concur with that recommendation!

I would not recommend Benchmark Transmission in Newark if you are someone who knows little to nothing about cars. Dante, the owner, is very unfriendly and makes you feel uncomfortable and annoying. He makes it hard to understand what he is saying and does little to make you feel like an appreciated customer. After having had my truck worked on, I had to take it back because it wasn't fixed correctly. He was very cold in these situations and I felt like he was trying to avoid ownership for these problems.
