    Berg, Dr. Fanny J.
I went to Dr. Berg about a growth on my thigh that had been bothering me for years. I had been told by another dermatologist that it was an SBK and of no importance. The other dermatologist had tried to freeze it off but it came back, and I decided to go somewhere else for treatment. I told Dr. Berg that I wanted it removed because it was scaly, itched occasionally and if I scratched it by accident, it would bleed. It was a constant annoyance and over the years had more than doubled in size. Dr. Berg looked at it quickly and dismissed it as an SBK and offended me by telling me that my insurance would not pay to have it removed, and that I was making a big deal out of nothing. She said I should get used to SBKs because I would be getting a lot more of them the older I got. This made me upset enough that I was practically in tears at her treatment of me. At that point her demeanor changed. She apologized. Then she took another look at it and offered to try the freezing off treatment again. Then she said something like so you've been picking and scratching at this? And I said, No I try to leave it alone or else it will bleed. Then she stared at it and said you know I think we should biopsy this. So she sent it out for biopsy, and guess what? It was squamous cell, and it needed to be surgically removed. I really didn't want her to do it, but my husband talked me into it just to get rid of it asap. So I made an appointment and went back, reluctantly. You would think that she would have a time set aside for surgeries, but no she does them in-between seeing other patients. She was in quite a hurry and probably didn't like me at all because of the whole situation previously when she almost missed it. She had to give me lidocaine and did not wait for it to take effect. She started cutting into my leg and I could feel it! It was a blunted feeling like someone running their fingernail across my skin, not a knife, but I told her I could feel it and I could feel the blood running down my leg because my whole leg was not numb. She made another insulting comment about do I take a long time to respond to local anesthetics at the dentist's office. I said no, but my dentist gives it time to take effect. I could go on about how she never told me that I couldn't stoop down or it would pop my stitches, which also almost happened, but you get the drift. Terrible, terrible, terrible. The only plus was that the skin cancer was finally removed and did not come back. And at least she did eventually recognize that it needed to be biopsied so the skin cancer could be diagnosed. I was supposed to go back after a year. No way. I do not recommend her for skin cancer issues. It is obviously not her specialty.

    Rosenthal, Dr. Michael K
I think he is knowledgeable. The problem is that he does not explain things, and he does not teach. I't in an out as fast as possible. He's a nice man, and seems to want to do things right, but I want to be educated and I want explanations. This is 2013, not 1913. Patients need to be part of the solution, and part of prevention.

I am very pleased with the quality of treatment I have received from Dr. Berg. She is thorough and takes the time to explain what is going on and the required treatment. Her staff is pleasant and very helpful.

I don?t like to be too critical so I will start with the positive.  Dr. Thew does seem to be a very knowledgeable dermatologist and was able to help me with my problem in a competent manner and his office staff was completely adequate.  That is where the compliments end.
I never waited less than 45 minutes from my scheduled appointment time to see the doctor and once waited nearly 2 hours for an 8 minute appointment.  Neither the doctor nor the staff ever apologized or even acknowledged this.  Typically, I would show up a few minutes early wait in the waiting room 20 to 45 minutes, then an assistant would take me to another room where I would wait for another 20-30 minutes until the doctor showed up.  One visit I was getting a skin cancer screening and after waiting twenty minutes in the waiting room, they brought me to another room and instructed me to take off all of my cloths but my underwear.  It was quite cold in the room and after waiting BTW, bring your smart phone because there is nothing to read or do.5-10 minutes mostly naked and cold I put my cloths back on and waited another 15 minutes for the doctor to appear. When he did show up, he commented that I was supposed to be undressed. I pointed out that I had been waiting over 20 minutes and that it was very cold in the room and again he did not apologize but simply concurred that the rooms can get a little chilly.
One more note, he is apparently very knowledgeable but does not like questions.  I was trying to learn what a cyst was and what causes them and asking about skin cancer and he was always impatient and trying to get out the door.  This was annoying to me but I am assertive and forced him to address most of my questions.  He may be the right doctor for someone, but definitely not the right one for me.  After my cyst had recovered and his office cancelled an appointment one day in advance, I stopped seeing him and do not plan on going back.  For the record, this review applies only to Maurice and not the other Dr. Thew in their office.  I have never seen her.

She's great. She is good. She is all business. I like her. She is pretty busy. I usually have to wait a couple of weeks but I don't mind waiting because skin isn't an emergency. The office is efficient. It is what I like. Sometimes I do have to wait a while.

I have recommended her to many people. She is just very proficient and it is not like a super personality who gushes all over you. She is very matter of fact and she knows her stuff. Mine is sometimes a special case when it comes to availability. My daughter has a flare off and they ask me to bring her over. As with all dermatologists, since they are so few you sometimes have to wait for an appointment. They try their best to fit you in. The staff is good but I know people who have had to wait for 3 weeks to a month because she is too busy at that point. They pretty much take you in at your appointed time. They are very good with the billing and administration.

She knows what she is talking about and is informed but her bedside manner is not so great. I haven't felt like she has taken the time to talk about skin issues. I might change if I could find another dermatologist. She is knowledgeable but her patients are in and out very quickly. My first visit was for an all over check and she spent more time. She is qualified and knows what she is talking about but I didn't feel a connection with her. She doesn't have the most fantastic bedside manner. It is pretty hard to get an appointment; it takes about 2 months. She is good but not excellent. They rush you in and out so they are punctual.

He is thorough and punctual, and there are no long waits in his office. If he sees any growths, he has them removed using a relatively swift procedure in the office, and if he sees anything in a difficult area like your eye, he will then send you to a surgeon. He is not an alarmist and doesn't get all agitated because he finds things that may be dangerous. He has a tendency to be low key, and all the things that he has ever found on me have not been dangerous or were not going to be dangerous. However, he makes sure that he gets rid of them anyways.

She did remove the mole through elective procedure. She is very good at what she does but she is quick. We have to wait for a long time to see her but she is worth the wait. I was happy with her work and I would recommend her to others.
