    Martin's Home Improvement
I obtained three estimates from pros from Angie's List. Martin was quick to grasp what needed to be done. He knew the requirements this job needed and explained the process. He submitted the estimate in a timely manner. Although his estimate was not the lowest I chose him because he impressed me with his knowledge of what was needed to get the job done. It was about a four week wait for work to begin. Work crews arrived on time, worked steadily throughout the day and cleaned up before leaving for the day. The work took four days to complete. All work was done professionally throughout the four days. I am very pleased with the result. I now have a wonderful, well-built, beautiful laundry area on my second floor. No longer do I have to descend two flights of stairs with laundry basket to do the wash. I made the right choice. Whenever another home improvement project comes up, I will be calling Martin's Home Improvement.

    Ferris Home Improvements
Ferris Home Improvement was the best company we ever decided to go with. Their work was very professional. Our salesperson, Bill, was a great help in helping us to pick the right style of cabinets and the sizes that fit into the spaces we had. Bill was always on hand for us to ask any questions and to get things done. The cabinets, flooring, lighting and tile go together perfect. The installers, Glen and Brett were excellent. From start to finish they were there on time and cleaned up everyday. They even put up with all the questions we had to which they answered everyone of them. In the mist of getting the kitchen done we decided to get our Living room and family room floors done also. Bill went right to getting them ordered and setting up an install date. Everything was done and it all looks Great.

I was very impressed by Electrical Solutions. They were responsive and professional. The work was very clearly explained and an additional estimate was given for work I planned for the next month. I am hiring them again.

First State Home & Garden, LLC
Brian and his crew were excellent. The job was done in a timely manner and we are extremely pleased with the finished basement. The job involved a large family room, a full bath and a bedroom with walk in closet. Duct work needed to be enclosed and a closet was built under the stairs. We highly recommend First State for any job that you may need done.

    Dream Home Remodeling LLC
We interviewed 5 or 6 contractors to remodel ~700 square feel of unfinished basement into a media, pub and game room. Dream Home Remodeling (Paul Bartelt) submitted the most comprehensive, detail oriented and affordable estimate based on our expectations. From beginning to end, he was a consummate professional, very friendly, prompt and on time/budget. Paul does absolutely fantastic work, brings great ideas/designs and the quality of his design and construction is far above our expectations. He is reliable and trustworthy, he can be working in our home while we are away. He ensured all New Castle county codes and permits were obtained and completed, did everything he could to minimize disruption to the rest of the house (thats an accomplishment with drywall and framing dust). He suggested we put in built in television and bar back areas to draw attention to the space and add to the design, this turned out beautifully. I had some very unique requirements around audio/visual ports and networking, he ensured all of these were met with specialized plugs and outlets everywhere we put our speakers (5.1 surround) and AV equipment. The bar he built is amazing and honestly, far better construction than the kitchen our home builders installed years ago. Our basement is absolutely wonderful! This is my 2nd full basement remodel in two homes, I wish I had known about Dream Home Remodeling on the first remodel. When we take on the challenge of a master bath remodel in the winter, Paul will be our own call.

    Eco Solar Solutions
We recently had solar panels installed on our home by Eco Solar Solutions (out of Elkton, MD). We chose to purchase the panels rather than lease them as we will receive the biggest money savings over time. After interviewing several different solar companies, we are very pleased that we choose Eco Solar. Chris (the owner) and his crew did an outstanding job! The level of customer service and attention to the project was far beyond what we expected. Chris was always easy to reach, he did all the paperwork for the permits, State rebate for us, and made the whole process run smooth. Our system is performing far better than expected. We have not had to pay any electric to the power company since the panels were installed and are expecting to have many more months without an electric bill while also accumulating SRECs. We would highly recommend Eco Solar Solutions for anyone who is considering installing a solar system on their property. Here is the phone number for Eco Solar Solutions: (302) 893-0073 Please tell Chris you were referred by me (Dean Ambrose).

    J.W. Tull Contracting LLC
The largest part of the job was the hardwood flooring and stairs and that seemed to start off pretty well.  But as we could see more of the floor we started noticing pieces that varied wildly in color, several of which we felt should have been disposed of.  As I understand it, most installers will lay out a portion of the floor to ensure that the pieces fit and blend to some degree before they are fixed in place and there is a certain percentage allowed for waste.  That does not appear to be how it was done in our case.  We expressed our concern and after quite a bit of reluctance we finally got them to remove three of the worst pieces and replace them.

As the project progressed we started running into more issues.  Some of them were small but frustrating like installing a door with brass in some places and brushed nickel in others, door handles put in place upside down and trim not matching.  These seem like they could easily have been avoided by asking some questions or by paying attention to detail.  Getting these minor details fixed was like pulling teeth and cost us extra.

When the french doors were installed it was apparent that one was clearly water damaged and they both had massive gaps between the door and the floor.  The six-panel door that was installed had to be slammed in order to be closed as the trim is badly out of alignment.  We were told we would have to just live with this.

The front door was installed and nothing about it was right.  We replaced a single entry door with a deadbolt and sidelights with an ornate double-door.  The door they ordered and installed did not have a place for a deadbolt and only had a handle on one door.  When we asked to have a deadbolt installed and offered to pay extra for a handle on the other door for aesthetics we were told they couldn't do that.  The inside framing was problematic but we were able to get them to use some additional trim to compensate for the way they installed it initially.  However, the door still doesn't close easily or securely.  So now we have an entry door that isn't secure and doesn't look how we want it to.

There is a long list of other issues we have with the "finished" product like gaps between floorboards and steps, etc. but I don't want to get into things that could be considered nitpicking.  I will say that when we had the hardwood stairs installed it became obvious that we needed to replace the old (awful) banister.  He subcontracted this part of the project to a woodworker who I DO recommend.  The banister was the only part of the job that came out to our satisfaction and it was done by someone else.  With regard to the issue of professionalism - We were never asked if before and after pictures could be taken and posted on their website.  However, the one picture that did show up on their site happened to be of the banister - the one part of the project their crew isn't responsible for.

All in all, I learned a lot from this experience and I accept some of the blame for things not turning out the way I wanted them to which is the only reason I am not grading this project and "F".  I clearly need to be much more detailed in what I expect and get those details in writing before any materials are ordered.  I discussed during the estimate phase of this project that I would need his help in getting some of the details right as we went along and I repeatedly agreed to pay more than the original estimate in order to correct course.  I was assured that they would get everything just right and wouldn't leave until we were happy.  That wasn't the case.  Now I know better.

    Top Notch Home Improvement

The repair exceeded my expectations for labor, materials and time (remember) this was after 9pm on short notice his price was less than anticipated. I called one of the so called name branded 24/7 plumbing outfits before going to Angie's List and they wanted a good deal more just to come out, before anything was to be priced and worked. Mr. Lindbergh also pointed out my circuit  breaker was marked incorrectly and in fact I had not shut off the correct circuit breaker.  I could have overheated the unit or worse. The gentleman went above and beyond what anyone else has done for me.  As far as I'm concerned "Top Notch" is truly what he is.  Anyone in my area should not ever hesitate to call  - Top Notch Home Improvement. Great experience especially appreciated since I'm dealing with medical issues that have taken almost all of my time. Thank you Mr. Lindbergh!
